Get some E35s on it. Just remember how wide you are when filtering through the Vosges mountains ok!

That's the only thing I'm worrying about....the width

I have a set up on my Gen 1 I will be selling soon, if anyone is interested.

SW Motech Alu rack with side carriers (quick release, so no metal on bike when not needed) with mountings for GIVI panniers.

Alu rack adaptor plate with GIVI fittings for GIVI top box (keeping my V46 top box)

Pair of 21L GIVI top opening panniers (great for a long weekend/traveling light)

Pair of E42 GIVI Panniers (the ones with extra top opening to get small items out like spare gloves etc)

Can send photos in a few days (away with work just now)

I have Kappa E21s (same as Givi versions) on my side rails and they sit out as far as the standard mirrors.  Wouldn't fancy anything wider (tho it may mean having to pack very smart with the reduced carrying capacity). You could then compensate with a bigger top box and / or tank bag setup.

i dont want to go down the top box route,,,,,and the smaller capacity pannier.....i might end up going the soft pannier route

Rear view, a few inches wider than the bars.

I also have the E21 panniers which are about half as wide, but  don't have a picture fitted

Where abouts are you in the country?

For both sets of panniers, the rack, side carriers (with locks) and adapter plate I would want £200 (The rack and side plates alone are that)

I have on my 2003 Fazer Non Fango boxes, topbox being 52litres and side boxes 48ltr for my 2-3 week trips[40ltr for short 8 - 10 day trips].  I made the fitting kit out of odds and ends from other fitting kits I had in my garage. They are pretty narrow considering their size and actually very stable whilst in motion, averaging around 90mph with a max of in excess of 130 on the way from Millstattersee to Gunzberg in Germany.
