to be fair ricambi suggests italian, and generally italian accessories are of a very high standard- their aftermarket is much bigger than ours and they seem to expect much better quality than we do.

A boxeye 600 passed me on the M4 going into Wales this afternoon (I was in my cage), he was hunkered in tight and overtook. He then went into the wrong lane at the toll boths - he went into the automated one for cars - and looked confused by the lack of of toll taker. He did repass me again eventually; I guess he had to use the intercom to get let through.

Ive done the airfield down there, it's bloody awesome. A great evening's fun. Might head down for that. Perhaps we can have FOC-up the runway meet?

Just a note on your front end 'clunking'. It's worth noting that most bikes with telescopic forks need to be tweaked up correctly when the forks have been removed and refitted.

The way I do it, is to put all front end back on then (maybe do a few miles to settle all the variables) then slacken off the lower clamping bolts (leave the top tight) and carefully compress and decompress the forks a few times. Then with the forks compress nip the bottom clamps back up. This always cures clunking for me and is to do with the fact that the headstock bearings are tapered and need be squared-up (probably a few seconds of angle into a trapezoid, viewed side on).

Can anyone recommend the best thing to strip paint from my rear caliper? I'm planning on repainting it so want as much off as possible without damaging it.
I'm planning to do a full rebuild with new bleed nipples, braided hoses etc can't stand the crap job the last owner has done

if you are rebuilding totally (ie spliting the halves and new seals) I'd just leave it to stew in nitromors.

Honestly the FZ1's plugs arent that bad - most fulyl faired stuff from the early 90s is a bigger pig.

I like working on my fz1, it's all just about being methodical and patient. Seems like the OP lost it early in the job and it all went down hill from there on in.

Thanks for that. Some interesting info on there, not quite sure I unsterstand it all haha but it says that my rpms are 13.33 higher than standard in any given gear so does that mean my mpg is 13% worse?

not necessarily - but from my own experience it will be a little less if more revs needed for a given speed (equally gearing up results in slightly better economy for cruising at speeds near peak torque).

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Braided brake lines??
« on: 14 February 2017, 10:52:43 pm »
Go for 2 lines. Each node (joint, junction, connection) can be a place that air bubbles 'stick' and be a right pain to get out. The 2 line set up reduces this problem massively.

Put new chain and sprockets on the FZ1. The last set did 21k so not bad at all.

I love how easy it is to do on these things.

MCE allow you to have multiple mods, within a framework, and not declare them. They include exhausts, hand guards etc. In fact, by memory, the only exclusion relate to boosted engines, nitrous and frame mods, everything else they cover up to a certain number.

You'd be taking a big risk using MCE.
Now I'll add that i used them for 2 years and they were perfectly fine but apparently when it comes to making a claim they are worse than abysmal!
Just Google them and read some of the reviews. Some people have been charged £1000s after an accidents that weren't their fault. They've ripped so many people off its a wonder they are still in business
So I'd advise caution before putting trusting all your precious motorbikes with them

I went through a period of non fault accidents a decade ago, my experience is that most are pretty poor when it comes to claims: motorcycle direct, hastings and admiral all treated me badly, and I wouldn't used them again. I've had policies with nash, bennetts and ebike in the last few years, all have very good to very poor reviews by people claiming. It's a total joke across the industry when you claim.

A guy on the 998 forum (who southampton based) went with this; im fairly sure he did a lot of back and forth to ttx before he got anywhere near it running right.

i guess it'll max out the credit card on back tyres time, if fitted.

Guys
Before Xmas I jet washed the bike and then stored it in a fairly humid shed until the new year  - result took several miles to run even normally..... It's a 2009 bike of some 46,000 miles and has always run well until now.
Now 5 weeks later of commuting I've an intermittent low speed misfire - more like a slow speed cough stall  I  used to get on my old 525 Katie.

So the plan is, having bought a spare coil, to test all the coils, dry, strip and clean the wiring above the engine (spraying GT85 here caused a misfire)and maybe spray it with electrical sealer. I'm hoping that the problem is caused by a coil breaking down. Does this make sense?

Before I take the bike apart is there anything else I need to be looking at?

Many thanks
orlando

Sounds like you are on the right track, certainly seeing if a pencil coil is playing up is a decent place to start.

Guess youll do the plugs while you are there? they should be pretty well sealed by the coil, but blooming corrosion on the plug body can cause subtle misfire.

Thanks pilinggas
I also found this one but the pictures look dubiously exact
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191426969196
I went to order it and then saw delivery date sometime between now and end of march.
I appreciate the link not sure whether to or not , the only other one I've found is used from the states at just short of £200 , I think I'll resort to getting mine repaired it may be quicker and cheaper

if it helps, i buy stuff from aliexpress and it usually arrives inside a fortnight.
