[/t] Guidance for Immobilise property registrationImmobilise is the world's largest FREE register of possession ownership details and together with its sister sites the Police's NMPR (www.thenmpr.com) and CheckMEND (www.checkmend.com), forms a very effective tool in helping to reduce crime and repatriate recovered personal property to its rightful owners.Immobilise can be used by members of the public and businesses to register their valued possessions or company assets, and exclusive to Immobilise all account holders registered items and ownership details are viewable on the Police national property database the NMPR (www.thenmpr.com).This online checking service is used by all UK Police forces to trace owners of lost and stolen property. In addition Immobilise is checked daily by a huge range of recovery agencies and lost property offices. As a direct result of Immobilise there are over 250 cases a week where property is returned or information collected that assists the Police in investigating criminal activity involving stolen goods.Immobilise is also the only ownership registration service supported by all UK Police forces, the Greater London Authority, and the Mobile Phone Industry.Property can be registered using the make and model, colour, serial number, IMEI number (mobile phones), photographs and distinguishing marks. The IMEI number on your phone can be found by dialling: *#06# (star, hash, zero, six, hash). An example of how Immobilise worksA police unit spot an individual acting suspiciously near a car park often targeted by thieves. They perform a stop and search on the individual and find him to be carrying several mobile phones and MP3 players. They radio through the serial numbers of the devices to their control-room that search the numbers on the NMPR.The results come back instantly; two of the phones were reported as stolen via Immobilise only a few hours earlier. The suspect is arrested and taken to the station for interview. The possession of the stolen phones gives reasonable grounds for the Police to search the suspect's home where they find numerous items, which again are checked on the NMPR.The searches reveal several more items that are associated with crimes, one of which was involved a serious assault providing the team investigating the assault with a fresh lead to pursue. Please sign up to the website and register your property.James Barrett

General / If only I could UNPOST
« on: 19 September 2013, 04:42:00 pm »
About a week ago I saw a post from an old mate on Facebook who I had not heard from for a long while.................

"Blimey, I thought you were dead !!!"  I posted in sarcastic jest.

I should have read a little more closely.

Just found out it was his daughter posting.....................................and yes, he had died that morning !!!!!! :eek

Bugger, bugger, bugger,bugger,bugger........................

General / Am I on to something here??
« on: 25 August 2013, 11:22:13 am »
Watching the GP on telly this morning and I was intrigued by the new fad of sticking out one leg in the bends.
Presumably to act as an air brake?

Well, why not build into the fairing some spoilers/air brakes linked to the front brake lever?

They could be a kind of forward opening flap all down the trailing edge of the fairing which hopefully would trap air and have the added advantage of extra engine cooling?

Anyhoo, if its not against the rules, you saw it here first so no nicking my brilliant design and claiming it for your own. :evil

« on: 21 August 2013, 04:08:37 pm »
All hail the great and good.

I am doing a bit of admin work for an old chum in the doors and windows biz.

He wants a simple programme to include on his website which would allow customers to input a pic. of their property and then overlay our product to see how it would look.

Ideally it needs to be simple but maybe also to include sizing details so we could price the job.

Any ideas/suggestions/recommendations, offers to do the work for me????

Cheers all...........

General / MS outlook question?
« on: 25 July 2013, 11:13:20 am »
I used Hotmail for years with no problems. They are now apparently OUTLOOK and I wonder if any of you techy types can answer a question.

Being a canny pensioner (aka tight) I use my phone's 1GB allowance to link to my laptop.
However, whenever I log into Outlook it seems to just keep on gobbling up MBs. Almost all my daily meagre allowance.

Is there some secret setting I need to check/uncheck to stop it downloading the equivalent of the Bodleian library at each visit ???

........................... and NO, its not my porn filter struggling with the overload!!

« on: 08 June 2013, 11:46:39 am »
Just off to the dentist this morning and suddenly everyone on the dual carriageway in front of me slammed on the anchors.
I pulled out to overtake and then saw some village people on the other side of the road in hi-viz.
One pointed an old fashioned radar gun at the SIDE of my car as I passed, so presumably got a reading of O miles/hour?

I'm sure they think they are useful but IMHO they are likely to cause a serious accident as drivers over react to their presence.  :eek

General / PINBALL WIZARDS
« on: 16 May 2013, 11:21:21 am »
Following a few comments made in another thread, like Chillum and Pieman, I have always been a great fan of pinball.

It started in the 70s when I would play every lunchtime at the HardRock in Piccadilly. We used to play four up and loser bought the beer.
I remember staggering out after one session and leaving 28 unopened Becks on the bar !!!???

I also had to play till I got the high score and remember one historic game where I reached the billions and a single game lasted for about 45 minutes in a pub in WC2.

Sadly these days it is increasingly difficult to find a pinball machine in a pub and the only one I know of is in the Hole in the Wall pub behind Waterloo station (and that may now be gone)

May I suggest a quick post to advise of all the available machines known to members?

Any in the South are assured of some trade from Dilligaff.

General / LICENCE TO KILL
« on: 26 April 2013, 11:31:11 am »
I watched this programme on BBC3? last night.
Generally the message was clear and well put regarding the inexperience of young drivers.

I did think it was unfairly biased regarding the case of the young footballer who collided with the Asian family.

True, he was speeding, but the other driver pulled out in front of him from a side road. Presumably without looking?

IMHO that's like blaming the horse for killing Emily Pankhurst?

Renewal came up on the car insurance with the AA @ £178.

OK time to do some surfing.

Moneysupermarket came up with £117 with Swinton....................... -£61

They followed up with a mail shot offering me THE LOWEST QUOTE and £100 cashback ???????

Phoned them up and 2031 questions later the call centre guy proudly offered me his BEST quote........... £238................. + £ 121 ???

SEEYA.

Went back online and proceeded to accept the £117 quote.
All details OK but I wanted to change the renewal date from 23rd. to 24th April.

Got to the checkout page and the quote had increased to £141 ?????????

Start again, leave it at 23rd, paid at £117 ................ saved £61 :thumbup

When I checked the insurer it turned out to be RSA.................. the same company as I am currently with at the AA ???????????

Those poor sods without access to the internet are getting RINSED.

General / Any Bankers on here......................err I said Bankers
« on: 09 April 2013, 03:39:03 pm »
Ok. So I had an account in New York and asked them to close it down and send me a cheque for the balance.
So far so good.

Went to my local Halifax, where I have had an account for 10 yrs., and asked them what was involved in paying in my $ cheque (over 10k)

At first they told me it would be £7.50 and take about two weeks to clear. OK says I, and paid it in.

Then they said it would cost anywhere between £15 and £80, but they were unable to tell me exactly ???????????  WTF ???

Anyway, as my options were limited, I paid it in.

Now, over a week later, I received a call from them this morning to say that my cheque had been returned from head office, uncleared, because........................................ there was not enough activity on my account ????????????

So let me get this correct.  I want to pay them to clear funds into my account......... a normal banking function........... but I apparently
don't qualify for their services because they will not allow me to execute a banking function????

Its no wonder we fucking hate them.

General / What hope is there.............
« on: 25 March 2013, 01:23:46 pm »
TWICE in the last week alone I have followed someone who STILL hasn't worked out how their indicators function, signalling left instead of right and v/v.

Surely if they can't grasp the basics of driving, and are unaware of the repeater on the dashboard TELLING THEM they are wrong, they have no hope of ever being safe behind the wheel?  :eek :'(

General / AMAZON....... how do they do it?

General / ALDI WOES.................advice needed
« on: 07 March 2013, 12:41:50 pm »
Went to my local Aldi yesterday and as per usual mooched around putting a few bits and bobs in my shopping bag. You mat recall that Aldi actively encouraged customers to bring their own bags and for many years did not provide baskets.

Anyhoo, as my bag got heavier I parked it on an empty shelf while I went off to get some milk.

Imagine my amusement to return and find the store security guard and one of the floor managers pulling items out of my bag?
I told them it was mine and they just emptied everything out and gave me my bag back saying I was no longer allowed to use my own shopping bags as they now provide baskets. My protestations that I had ALWAYS shopped this way at Aldi  and had seen no notices informing me of change in policy were completely ignored.

It then appeared to me that they were actually accusing me of being a shoplifter otherwise they surely would have offered to get a basket for me and allow me to continue shopping. It also appears that the security guard must have been following me as this incident took place at the rear of the store and his post is at the front door.

Naturally I am seething at this treatment and my question is............. should I forget it and boycott Aldi or take my complaint further.

I cannot find an email address for Aldi Head office, so perhaps someone can help?

General / Any antiques dealers on here???
« on: 21 February 2013, 11:44:28 am »
I have an old mirror, inherited from yet another failed relationship. Been quietly hanging on my wall quietly minding its own business for over 20 years. My interest was aroused when the bitch's mother had the audacity to contact me recently and ask for it back???????
Naturally I took great satisfaction in telling her I threw it in a skip when her bitch daughter was busy screwing an ex-mate of mine!!!

Anyhoo, I'm not bitter............................much.

This site has excelled in the past with its seemingly endless font of all knowledge...............

I think it is a genuine Regency ornate oval mirror with two candle holders.

If we have any "experts" on board I can send pics and would appreciate a rough guide to value??????????

Maybe able to claw back some of the £££££££££££££££££££££££££££s the bitch cost me. :evil

« on: 27 January 2013, 11:42:46 am »
Just sold my trusty old Audi but will not have a replacement for about 3-4 weeks.

I am worried that if I inform my insurers and cancel the existing cover they may not allow me to carry over my NCB??

Any brokers on site ?????????????

General / Be careful out there...........
« on: 08 December 2012, 03:08:17 pm »
Drove down to the local shops this morning.

FIRST ROUNDABOUT

There was an ambulance coming so I waited. 4x4 woman coming the other way pulled onto the roundabout in front of the ambulance, then stopped? He put his siren on and she, now totally confused, drove onto the grass in the middle to let him pass????????????????????

SECOND ROUNDABOUT

Here we go again. A Merc. had managed to drive straight through, over a road sign and into a garden taking out a golf on the way. Finished halfway up the fence with the nose in the air?

FFS :eek :rolleyes :'(
