Title: peaklife sat nav
Post by: james43 on 10 February 2013, 09:09:30 am
Morning All,

Has anybody bought a Peaklife Satnav.

I'm trying to be frugal (as opposed to tight) lol.

I've looked at options including a waterproof case for a car one.

the write ups i've managed to find seem ok.

But i thought i'd ask in case anyone has got one.

I've found a site that will sell them for £79.99 which seems really good.

Any Thoughts peeps ??

A guy on ebay says this:

Peaklife Motorcycle (or car)  Sat NavBought this last year for the bike and it works great. It is designed for use in the wet without  additional wet weather case. Has handlebar mounting system. Check out the Amazon review and description for more details. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Peaklife-Weatherproof-Motorcycle-Navigator-Terrain/dp/B0062EAGP2/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1359927353&sr=1-1-catcorr (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Peaklife-Weatherproof-Motorcycle-Navigator-Terrain/dp/B0062EAGP2/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1359927353&sr=1-1-catcorr) ]It is preloaded with IGO 8 mapping.  No postcode input though.

Works with bluetooth helmets and bluetooth bike intercoms, but check on the reviews of this item to ensure your helmet or intercom will work with it before making a bid. I believe it only supports AD2P bluetooth profile?
Two batteries and 12v cigarette lighter point car charging or charge direct from power source (needs to be wired in to bike or car wiring or battery)  Alternatively charge via USB cable from computer or buy a small USB wall plug charger. Plays MP3 music as well.

You can load your own MP3s  via computer transfer using USB cable.Noticed that maps are UK and Europe IGO 2009.  Tried to find out if the maps can be updated via the IGO website, but no . This unit is not recognized for online map updating. Read on some forums  that TOM TOM mapscan be used  via SD card, Micro SD card slot is at back of unit under battery. You would need to check that you can update maps as I tried to find out and it may be an issue unless you can source latest maps from a website.

i bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mio-269-Digi-walker-sat-nav-with-World-Maps-not-Tom-Tom-or-Garmin-or-Navman-/130848671927?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1e773048b7 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mio-269-Digi-walker-sat-nav-with-World-Maps-not-Tom-Tom-or-Garmin-or-Navman-/130848671927?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1e773048b7)

for around 30 notes, i put it in my jacket pocket and have an ear piece. cheap as chips, effective, doesn't need a mounting point on the bike, doesn't have to be dismantled when the bike is left anywhere and can be used on my other bikes too.
