Plastic carburetor intake valve
« on: 12 October 2022, 02:16:45 pm »
Hi,

I need to change these plastic intake valves, on picture number 19: http://yampart.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/YAMAHA-FAZER-FZS-600-CARBURETTOR-CARB-PARTS-DIAGRAM-YAMPART.COM-Copy.jpg

So far I've found them under parts no. 5DM-14113 and 5DM-14112.

112 are somewhat available to buy new, but 113 are not.

112 are supposedly from 1998-1999 models, and 113 from redesign.

Does anyone know if 112 will fit in model 2003? Have they changed anything in this department with redesign model?
I'm not sure if I can order 112s...

They look the same on the drawings, but to be sure, phone Fowlers at Bristol and speak to the parts department and they should tell you if they are the same part

AIUI usually, if the part number changes, it's because they're not compatible.

Or sometimes they've improved the part and it's backwards compatible. Anybody knows whether the carbs are the same one's through 98-03? As said above, Fowlers will know.

As far as I was aware the carbs on a 98 and 03 are interchangeable with just a minor jet size difference on the main jets.

Asked a several shops, including Fowlers.
Nobody can tell for sure...
Some shops have listed 112 as fit for all carburetor Fazers.
One of them said it should fit, another one said if it's a different part number, they're different.

I don't know what else to do. I've sent an email directly to Yamaha Japan in hope they'll even bother to answer...

Normally in that case  there's a "replaces part #blah blah" in the description

Not necessarily, some parts for the 2002-2003 models are listed as 5RT in comparison with the 1998 - 2001 which are listed as 5DM, but they are interchangeable, but are usually made from a different material.
A good example are the downpipes, the Silencer, and the oil pipe at the front of the engine
The fact it is 5DM puts it in the 1998 to 2001 models but the 1998 1999 have the 112 fitted and the 2000 to 2003 have the 113 fitted.
If you look for a second hand one from 2000 to 2003  models but not late registered 1999.
