There's various screens you can put on a fighter, it all depends on what your going to mount it to. Headlight, or forks, bars or top yoke?

To start off have a shop around on eBay for universal screens, there's loads.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

i think you've misunderstood stevierst mine is still standard i mean the actual screen itself. Apparently there is a "streetfighter" screen available that is shorter.

If you can't find a street fighter screen, get a second hand standard one from eBay and cut it down with a dremel or similar. (thats what I did)

Take your time otherwise the plastic melts instead of cutting, Halfords sell screen trim to finish it off, you can also spray the inside of the screen black.

If you don't spend long periods above 70 mph or do long motorway journeys it's a very good screen with very little noise.

Thanks tnation thats exactly what I was thinking. Only problem i have now is my screen is a puig double bubble and it'll look odd so its gonna have to be a standard item

I cut down a d/b screen and it works for me. The remains of the bubble deflects the air up, and i don't notice much difference from a standard screen.
BTW, I do quite a few motorway runs and it's fine, depends how tall you are.

Aah, right.  I thought they were normally called stubby screens. Had one on my gen II until I sold it.
A streetfighter to me is a customised bike with no fairing, but then I'm old school.

My last screen I chopped down was a d/b and didn't look too bad. (speed up the cutting process by using a wood saw. I Shit ye not!!!)

BMCfaz how did you get the right radius on the curve? I was thinking maybe a steel or plastic ruler?

You can draw it on a paper template, then stick it to your screen.

Or measure it out in the screen from a known datum point using a makeshift compass (string and marker pen).

Or use a decorators profile tool.

Done a few of them now in different forms, shapes and curvatures. Just make sure you measure twice, cut once. And don't be afraid to get the wood saw out. I'm deadly serious, as long as your gentle, it leaves a cleaner cut than hack saws or rotary blades as it doesn't heat up the material to melting point.

make a paper template, fold the paper in half and draw the shape required, just half of it and when you open it up it will be symmertrical, transfer this to the screen.....as stevierst....measure twice cut once.....make a few out of an old cereal box or similar untill your happy with the shape ...
One, is never going to be enough.....

20141025 134412

Right then.......... i used a peice of string and a marker pen to get the same radius from the bottom/centre of the screen. Then used a grinder to cut/melt away the upper portion and tidy up towards the uppermost part of the mark pen line. Then a sharp knife scraped along the edges to bevel and tidy the new edge........20 mins :)

I fitted the screen and marked out the shape I wanted with masking tape, took the screen off and cut it using a Dremel-type tool.
I used the line of the fairing for the initial line on the screen, then developed the curve from that. No measuring as such, and dead simple. A bit of screen trim finished it off.
