FZS600 Fazer / Re: Acceleration Problems
« on: 01 February 2013, 09:33:18 pm »
Thanks for the reply, hopefully mine isn't that troublesome! It doesn't happen too often, it's just very noticeable when it does; It still accelerates, it just seems to lose most of it's power. Usually however it still accelerates fast enough to have to hold on tight!

I've found a really detailed carb tuning guide in the articles section of this forum (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,91.msg340.html#msg340) So if I can get hold of a carbtuner I may try this, if it could help.

FZS600 Fazer / Acceleration Problems
« on: 01 February 2013, 08:55:11 pm »
I bought my Fazer in November, its my first bike, so I'm learning as I go!

I've found though, that as I go to accelerate from about 5000/6000 revs that it initially accelerates fast, but then seems to lose power. It makes a grumbling sort of noise, and vibrates, and eventually (sometimes) it accelerates again. I'm not snapping round the throttle, I'm turning it slowly, but it has proved to be awkward on several overtakes now!

It doesn't always happen either, it always seems to be when it's more inconvenient.

People have suggested it's the carbs flooding, or the tuning of them. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be? I'm recovering from a knee injury so can't ride, so now is the perfect time to try and sort all the problems out and keep me sane!

Thanks for any help

General / Re: Rip Off Britain - Admiral insurance.
« on: 01 February 2013, 05:29:36 pm »
Admiral are pretty expensive, when i was 18 with them, I was paying nigh on 2k/year for my little peugeot 206. But now I'm 21, I've stayed with them and I now have a 2l turbo diesel and am insured on it for £380, that's less than me on my Fazer!

They are expensive, but with me I found them to be very competitive with a few years no claims behind you. It may be worth looking at 'accelerated no claims' I had 4 years no claims after 3 years of driving; I got a years no claims every 8 months. It's slightly more expensive, but much cheaper in the long run I found. It just takes some explaining as to how I had 4 years no claims at the age of 20!

All too familiar! I'd been delaying it for years (Parents disapproved..) but due to the law change, I turned 21 in October, and had bought and was riding my FZS600 in early November!

Which law was it that prevented you from turning 21??? :eek

Haha yeah, caught me by surprise too! Had to delay the party and everything!

I'll quickly rewrite that now  8)

Just stick at, stay calm, be confident and you'll be fine when it comes to the tests.
Last July I had never been on a bike before, then did Theory, CBT on CG125, 2hr 1-2-1 training, then 3 days of DAS on CBF500. Passed the lot first time and bought myself a lovely Fazer 600 in blue in the September. Been commuting into London every day since - loving it. Never bothered getting my own 125 to practice on, so you've got way more road experience than I had back then, just don't get stuck into any bad habits and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Unfortunately now I'm off the bike due to a knee injury, the next few months are going to be very long.

All the best though TourX, I've been bitten by the bug now, and and am loving my Fazer, I bet you will too when you get around to it! Good luck with the test!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Trying to Identify my Immobiliser
« on: 24 November 2012, 09:25:46 pm »
I'll put the pictures up when I'm back with the bike in the morning, but tonight I managed to identify the immobiliser, it's a laserline 862TH/TL, and opening the immobiliser up showed some corrosion which I've fixed. (I had some help from a sparky)

The locking modes now work which didn't before (it locks and unlocks), but the alarm doesn't sound, and the bike still is still immobilised. I've tested it, and no current is coming out of the immobiliser box, so I've been told perhaps it's a relay in the immobiliser that's not working?

Has anyone had any experience of something like this? Being a student who's just spent all my loan on a bike, I'd rather not fork out another £100 to replace the immobiliser!

Thanks for the help so far though!

Also, if anymore information is useful, I can try and find it out. I've not seen any markers on the immobiliser or alarm, or inside the key fob, apart from the mitsubishi logo

FZS600 Fazer / Trying to Identify my Immobiliser
« on: 24 November 2012, 04:44:12 pm »
On thursday my bike (reasonably new to me) decided it wasn't going to start. After taking as much off and checking with the tools I could, I'm convinced it's the immobiliser doing it's job. It just won't 'mobilise.' I've tried bridging the starting relay and the starter motor will turn over, but there's no ignition.

I have no idea what the immobiliser is, all I can find is a Mitsubishi-like logo on the immobiliser box, which I've not yet been able to take off the bike. I've spent hours looking on the internet to try and find out what it is, so I can look to sorting it out, but have found nothing.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what the immobiliser is? I've attached a photo of the key fob, which looks like the cobra ones, but i've not been able to find the exact one; maybe it was discontinued, but I can't find any details. If anyone is able to help, I'd really appreciate it! I'm desperate to fix it to make getting to work that much easier.

Incase it helps, it's a 2000 FZS600, and I believe an aftermarket immobiliser

Thanks,

Steve

Hey everyone,

Just passed my DAS last week, and have gone and bought myself a FZS600 :)

New to riding myself, been caged up until now, and will most likely need some advice along the way!

I'm based in Hampshire, and will be hoping to get out riding as much as possible.

Cheers all,

Steve
