Was there anything that would have gone under this rubber strap when the bike was new, looks like it would be for the tool kit except that's down by the light? Also what are the two loops either side of the metal tab? All they seem to do is squash things I put in the under seat storage, I've half a mind to cut them off, but thought I'd check their purpose first.

Its for a U lock
-
Ah yes I see that now, the hook in front of the rubber strap is part of it too. Thanks. :)
-
But has anybody actually got a U Lock under their seat? :)
-
just noticed the tyre pressures written on the seat
-good idea for those of us who forget the pressures as soon as we get to the compressor
-
From memory, back when the FZS600 came out there was only one U-lock that would actually fit that holder and it was the expensive Yamaha one.
-
At least there is some useable space under the Fazer seat. If I want to carry a small disc lock on the Tracer I have to leave the toolkit at home!

My bike would wobble all over the place at those pressures.

:agree
They are the pressures shown in the handbook though

Yes! Got the lock off eBay for a lot less than Yamaha were selling it for

WOW that's a collectors item
-
So thats what they look like! But is it any good?
-
It's a good Abus lock but a bit small and the calipers stop it going round a wheel spoke and both fork legs like I used to do on last bike. But for a short stop just round a wheel spoke stops bike being pushed/driven away. Longer stops got a wire loop to either go round a solid object or lock on one wheel and loop through other wheel and frame.

My Abus granite lock fits it like an arse to a pot.

Neat solution for the original U Lock, however there are much better locks and disc locks on the market now (some 15 years on), that fit under the seat leaving alot of space to spare.
I'm considering cutting away some of this white plastic moulding underneath the seat, as it prevents me fitting some items into this space, without the seat becoming tricky to fit back into place. Specifically stopping at a petrol station for some lunch plus a 500ml can of Monster - it just wont quite fit under there in any position without getting crushed! Grrrrrr. :rolleyes :lol

F4celles, seems your Fazer is trying to look after your health😀

Good point. :) ...without a can of Monster running though my veins, I ride so much more conservatively. :angel
