Hi Guys and Gals.
I've had my gen 1 Fazer thou for about 3 years now, and I think it's the best bike I have had. The problem is that I am getting on a bit, and I have bad osteo-arthritis in my knees, as well as a double slipped disc. Being sat on a bike is one of the most comfy places for me to be - but off the bike (i.e. pushing/parking and getting on/off it) is something of a nightmare, even though it's the only bike I've had that I haven't dropped when getting off it.
So I will very reluctantly soon be advertising it here for sale - or exchange. The problem is, I don't know what to replace it with. Preferably a bit lighter, or weight a bit lower. Lower seat would be good. I'm into retro stuff - loved my old Zephyr 750 and do like the old Bandits, but I have zero idea about recent bikes - i.e. the last ten year's worth. I really dislike the styling of modern bikes, with stubby rear ends and poxy pillion pads.
I can't think of anything that would be a good replacement, so I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas. I don't know about a 600 Fazer - looks like the weight is quite high on them. I would really prefer a larger engine - 750 or up. I like to slot it in gear and be able to leave it there for long periods (a la Zephyr - or Fazer thou, :) ). It can't be too new - cos I don't have much cash. I can go investigating any suggestions and maybe we can come up with a suitable alternative together :)

They're 'only' 650s but have you thought about the Kawasaki Versys or ER6F. At 450lb wet though the 600 fazer isn't heavy, maybe give one a try and see what you think, they're brilliant bikes.

I've also been toying with a change of bike, I'm not interested in anything quick n powerful more light n fuel efficient. So I'm thinking

Might even go smaller but as I'm moving house to somewhere quite hilly I can't go to small.

There is always the Fzs600, the best all rounder of all. :)
Small, light, nimble, handles very well and goes on for ever :thumbup

Taking in info in the op -
- seat way too high, and pain in the arse to service due to interlocking/connected plastics.
- while a nice little bike, absolutlyu no puff at all.
- too big and heavly and seat hieght an issue
- Looks nice, low down grunt, no top end, low seat, heavy but weight lower down.
- Nice bike, but no power or torque (74bhp/46ft-lb), seat height lower than FZS1000 @805mm
- The last model made in 2002 had more power & torque than the the MT-07 @ 87BHP & 66 ft-lb and even lower seat height @795mm, but its heavier at wet-220kgs
The 2003/2004 FZS600 (carbed) is mostly better than all of the above -
- seat height 790mm
- power/torque - 95/42 - more power but less torque
- weight dry/wet 189/202kgs
- lots of spares and still able to come to this forum.

How about an Yamaha XSR900?
I was looking to get an MT09 when my work contract gets made permanent but keep looking at the XSR, I just think they look so much better than an MT09.
A mate has just bought a Z650, thinks it is great and it gets decent reviews.

I had a Gen 1 thou (a beauty, wish I'd kept it and covered it up) and a Foxeye 6 and when I decided to go down to one bike I've kept the Foxeye, it's the easiest bike to ride I've had (had a few). Only thing I don't like about it is it's a bit revvy so I might put a one[size=78%] tooth bigger front sprocket on, they are amazing little bikes. [/size]

Sod it, I'll stick with the Fazer, might add something smaller as well though. :rolleyes :D

Thanks for the suggestions a few to look at, there.
I probably will try the 600 first - if I can get myself to be sensible for long enough!
I tested a Bonnie about 2 years ago, when I thought I might buy one, but after the 40 minute ride home from Webbs in Peterbohorror, I was walking like a cowboy after a long cattle drive. Also, Mrs JD didn't like it much on the pillion. Though since we got knocked off a year ago, she has flat refused to get back on the bike, so that may not be a factor any more.

If you liked the bike but not the seat you could always get it reupholstered for £150 ish

I'd throw the street triple into the mix too? Tho' it might be a bit to modern looking for the OP.
