Fork seal replacement bits
« on: 16 February 2012, 02:48:18 pm »
Looks like my fork seals have finally given up so I've got plenty to do at weekend now.

I've read pointer2nulls guide on the old site, is there anything else I should look out for that isn't mentioned?
http://fazerowners.yuku.com/reply/196600/HOWTO-Forks-Seals-Bushes-and-Oil

I know I need these parts:

dust seal x2
oil seal x2
retaining clip x2
inner bush x2
outer bush x2
fork oil x1 L

I'm thinking of doing the bushes at the same time but am having trouble sourcing some. Does anyone know where I can get some individually or as part of an overhaul kit with all the other seals?

you'll get everything from yamaha if you have the part numbers. there's a parts catalogue in the download section. go for genuine parts especially for seals

Aye thanks for that, looked them up but can only find the part number for one of the bushes (called a metal slide, number 09&26 on p28). My local Yam dealer said if there's no part code then it's not a serviceable part, but the photo's in P2N's guide and the Haynes manual show two removable bushes...?

I'm more after clarification as to what bits I need to do the full job (seals, oil and bushes).

It's sod's law that if I decide to do just the seals, the bushes will need doing and then I'm stuck without a bike while I find a supplier/they come in stock.
