FZS600 Fazer / Re: FZS600 Headlights keep turning off
« on: 07 April 2021, 11:27:49 pm »
Thank you for advice and sorry for the late response. I checked the cables and they seem to be all fine. I'll have to check the headlights too.
Also I don't know if it could be causing problem, but the bike has installed a DataTool alarm with immobiliser and also custom dashboard backlights (both years ago and they've been working fine) - I was thinking that maybe something went wrong with either one of them.
Another thing, which I don't think I've mentioned, is that occasionally there is an strange squeaky noise when I turn the key in the ignition

Thank you, I'll try to do this tomorrow. Anything particular that I should be looking for or just to check general condition of cables?

Dashboard lights, when the problem happens, are usually either off or on (synced with headlights).
And when I turn the key, and leave it like half way turned between position 2 and 3, the lights on the dashboard often come up, sort of dimmed (and when I turn it all the way position 3 - the lights go off).
And again; the whole problem usually happens when I start the engine after at least 3-5 hours of not riding it, and then when I start it, no lights are turning on (headlights, dashboard backlight, instrument lights) and after riding it for 10-20 mins (and revving up the engine a lot), the lights usually go back on (both on the dashboard and headlamps), and stay on for most of the time, but recently I've noticed that occasionally they tend to turn off for a short time (usually for 10-30 seconds) during riding the bike but again; usually they come back on again.
Don't know what's going on  :\

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 Headlights keep turning off
« on: 26 March 2021, 09:46:11 pm »

Hello, I would like to ask for some advise regarding my good old Fazer (FZS600), which for many months now  (3-4) has a problem with electrical circuit, particularly with headlamps.

Bike has installed an Oxford heat grips and DataToolDemon Evo immobiliser - which I guess may contribute to the problem

Recently it started to happen more frequently, but strangely, when I start to ride the bike for 10-20 minutes and rev the engine a lot - the headlights start working again, but later occasionally they go off (for like 30-60 seconds, when I'm riding the bike)

Can anyone advise if there is anything I can do myself, before I take it to a workshop?
I obliviously tried changing fuses already and it's still the same  :(

As you've probably noticed I'm not very good with technical details, but I will try to explain what I understood and remembered.
I took it to the workshop twice.
That's what's been done at the first visit:
- Air filters changed,
- Inlet manifolds Gaskets changed (I think),
- Spark plugs changed,
- Spark plugs cups changed.
Above things didn't solve the problem, so few weeks later I took it back and here what's been done:
- Carborauter cleaned using ultrasonic cleaner,
- Adjusting and syncing carborauter,
- Checked valve clearance,
- and that fluid for carborauter cleaning
After the second visit it runs awesome, the stuttering problem is gone and it feels like it has much more power than before the problem started, but I had to spend £300.

I finally go the Fazer back from the workshop. The problem was with the carboratour and valves. There was too much fuel getting into it and that was a reason why it was losing power. Proper cleaning, including some liquid added to the fuel, solved the problem. Now it runs like brand like :) Thanks again for all advices.

Before I take it away; could it by caused by loose exup valve cables?
I've read somewhere that someone had simmilar problem with 2001 R1 and it turned out that exup valve was causing the stutter by staying open, not allowing enough back pressure at the low RPMS, because of loose cables.

Thanks for asking, but not yet. I'm taking it to the workshop tomorrow. Thanks again for all advice. Will let you know what was the cause, hopefully next week

Have to start with a TPS check, they cause jerkiness when they're on their way out.
Also make sure your spark plug caps are screwed on to the HT leads properly.
If air filter's been changed and the TPS is showing up okay and in the correct position then my next step would be a carb balance.
Thanks Darrsi, I will check it with my mechanic

Hi Everyone, for couple of weeks I've been having a problem with my FZS600 ('02, 40k). The engine stutters below 4000RPMs very badly. Sometimes I can fully open the throttle and it won't accelate for couple of seconds. Sounds really weird too.
I took it to the workshop; the spurk plugs where changed, air filters, ignition pipes, have done 1000 miles since then and the problem persists.
My mechanic told me that he will have to open the engine to check the valves and other stuff, but it's not going to be cheap.
Anyone has a clue what could be the problem?

12
In that case, don't worry about it. The oil pickup is further back and will still provide the pump with oil despite the red light on the instrument cluster coming on under acceleration.
When you change the oil, top it up to the upper mark after running the engine to fill the filter (assuming you're changing that too).
Thanks for advice. 2 weeks ago I changed the oil and the filter and it hasn't happened since then

FZS600 Fazer / Re: FZS600 engine oil warning light randomly comes on
« on: 18 April 2017, 12:44:13 pm »
I checked oil level and it seems it's fine, both when engine is cold and after a ride.
The light does seem to come on after fast accelerating. I thing it started when I changed the exhaust can few weeks ago and now I rev it high more often.
I haven't changed the oil for around 5000 miles now. Could it be a reason? I'm changing it this week

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 engine oil warning light randomly comes on
« on: 17 April 2017, 11:29:00 pm »
For couple of weeks now the engine oil warning light occasionally comes on, it stays on for around 30-50 seconds and then it goes off. It's not the case that it's happening when sharp turning or going up\down hill. I spoke to my mechanic about it it and he is not sure what is causing it. He said that it may be a problem with a oil sensor (maybe it got some gunk stuck to it), but wasn't sure and he said he it would be quite a lot of work to check it\clean it, he would have to remove the whole exhaust system to do it and probably it wouldn't be cheap. Does anyone know what could be causing it and is it something serious? Is it safe to keep riding the bike if it keeps happening?

Thanks.
Why the 10W are far better than 30W ones?
And also,
maybe it's a silly question, but can a I get a ticket just for having them installed (without using them) if I'm stopped by a police?

02 bikes have good lights compared to the boxeye.

Try new bulbs. Old ones fade.

+1. Have a look at the Osram Nightbreaker of Philips Extreme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNxkYkoSwtQ

Thanks Frosties. These are exactly what I need.

Regarding the spotlights. You mentioned that you have also used these brighter ones:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-UNIVERSAL-MOTORCYCLE-LED-SPOT-LIGHTS-FOG-LIGHTS-X-2-30W-CREE-1200LM-12V-CAR-/262755212897?hash=item3d2d6e5e61:g:ONoAAOSw3zxXMMMA
1. If I upgrade the headlights, do you still recommend to instal spotlights?
2. If I go for these brighter ones (2x 30W) is the alternator going to handle them or will they be draining the battery?
3. Do they come with an on\off switch?
4. Do I also need to get a fuse tap to link into a switched circuit on the '02 model
5. Will it pass MOT with them?
6. Do you know if they are road legal?
7. Can I get stopped for using them and what would be a penalty for it; like £30 or more like penalty points or doing MOT again?
8. How much of a difference is between those 30W and these 10W?

There are two problems with 100W headlights a, they're not legal (like anyone cares) and b, the output of the alternator will only just about cope with them and then when you add in the sidelight, tail light and anything else you've got running there's bugger all left to charge the battery.
What about LED, that need much less power and would be similar bright like 100W? How much would they cost and would they be legal? If not what are the chances to get the ticket for using them at night? Or to pass MOT?

What about changing original bulbs to something stronger like this:

?
Or maybe some LED bulbs?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Louder exhaust can for FZS600
« on: 01 April 2017, 12:30:32 pm »
Yes you need the link pipe to be Fazer down pipe diameter one end and the other end needs to be the can entry diameter.

I had to buy 2 new clams so will look at it today for sizes and post them, if the new end can diameter is too big you can add a sleeve to match the link can, in my youth we used to cut them out of tin cans!!
That would be helpful, thanks.

Depends if you already have aftermarket downpipes or OEM ones or not, as link pipes can differ in size.
I have original downpipes, nothing modified.

So I guess the best option is to look for a can that is designed for FZS600 or at least can that comes with a link pipe which has a right diameter. What would it be; few mm larger than the exhaust pipe?

Is it possible to find an exhaust can with a right opening diameter which will be possible to install without a link pipe?

If I find a can without a link pipe, where can I get one? Is it possible to get it from the manufacturer (like Delkevic or Black Widow)?

If the can is road legal with a baffle on; does it mean that if I will be riding a bike without; I'm running a risk of being stopped by police and getting a ticket?

Thanks for the link, Frosties. They seem to do the job right. I would probably have to ask my mechanic to install them form me as I don't have basic electrician skills. Are they road legal, for example; if police stops me will they be a problem? Also, is my bike going to pass the MOT with them?

General / Bellypan for FZS600 '02
« on: 01 April 2017, 01:21:59 am »
Does anyone know if the bellypan for FZS600 Boxeye model would fit Foxeye model? As far as I know they have the same engines so maybe the same one fits both.
I found 2 different types here, in blue that I need:
1. http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/skidmarx-yamaha-motorcycle-bellypans/yamaha-fazer-600-skidmarx-bellypan.html
2. http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/skidmarx-yamaha-motorcycle-bellypans/yamaha-fazer-600-2003-skidmarx-bellypan.html

They look exactly the same, but for some reason the one for Foxeye is almost 2x more expensive then the one for Boxeye model  :rolleyes
There is pretty much nothing available on eBay in blue. Does anyone know where else to look for it?

General / FZS600 '02 headlights upgrade
« on: 01 April 2017, 01:00:21 am »

Is it me or the original headlights in FZS600 '02 are extremely poor on dark roads? Can anyone advice how to upgrade it? Are there a brighter bulbs available for this model that won't melt the plastic cover; maybe some LEDs? I asked my mechanic about those and he said that it would cost around £80, which is way above my budget. Is there anything cheaper or is there any other solution? I heard that there is a MOD for Fazer Boxeye model that improves its headlights; maybe there is something similar for Foxeye model. Or maybe there is a decent set of spotlights available?

Have you thought about second hand?

I picked up a Scorpion end can with link pipe for £50

Not sure about universal but don't expect any real change in fuel consumption or power

If I find a good deal on eBay, how can I check if the can is compatible with FZS600 2002;
For example how can I check if this one will be compatible:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SV-650-BLUE-FLAME-EXHAUST-DUEL-PORT-51MM-INLET-DIAMETER-WILL-FIT-OTHER-BIKES-/152492392224?hash=item2381413f20:g:zrIAAOSwLEtYjxa9
is it just a link pipe that need to have a right diameter? If yes; what is it for FZS600 2002?

Considering my budget I am leaning towards getting a second hand one. How can I find one that will fit to my FZS600? What do I need to look for? Is it the fitment type, sleeve length or what?

FZS600 Fazer / Louder exhaust can for FZS600
« on: 31 March 2017, 01:53:29 pm »

Hello All,
I would like to buy a louder exhaust can for my FZS600 and I have couple of questions.
1. Is it possible to buy universal exhaust can that will fit different type of bikes, in case I would like to use it on my next bike?
2. Will my bike use more petrol with a custom can? If yes how much more can it be? Currently it does around 43mpg (6.6l\100km)
3. Will it increase it's power?
4. Someone recommended me Delkovic cans. Is the brand any good?
5. Can anyone recommend something decent for around £100? I'm looking for something with a removable baffle. And I don't want it to be too loud. And probably made of steel, not a carbon fibre. Can be aftermarket.
