For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - FZS 1000 £2.5k to play with.
« on: 01 July 2012, 04:47:20 pm »
After my poor old fzs 600 got written off - I am after a new bike. I quite fancy the 1000 version now. Anyone have one up for sale ??

I am in Gloucestershire (Tewkesbury) and have around £2.5k to play with.

Small cheap parts like this, Ive always gone OEM - no point doing the job again just to save a couple of quid.

It sounds like your just randomly trying different things. If I was you I would stop sanding my discs for a start and get the bike to a decent mechanic to ride and try and diagnose.

That price is about right, you could try bile breakers for 2nd hand parts but that can always be a gamble if you're not careful.

Try Wemoto, about £100 or so for a decent one. - I would avoid the one above at £69 and definitely avoid any cheap ones from Ebay.

It'll be fine, though you may find you need to adjust the flow rate control if it's viscosity is slightly different.
Or you could do what I do, use cheap car engine oil instead of the overpriced stuff from Scottoil.

This is what I do - my chain gets sprayed with my old engine oil!!

I did with the original crappy downpipes but certainly wouldn't if I swapped them for lovely stainless.

If the rattle goes away once your warmed up - thats quite normal on the fazer - nothing to worry about - give it a few red lines - i will soon settle down.

I wouldn't bother - taken that cover off every month to clean behind for the last year - never bothered with a gasket.

Been using Asda 10 / 40 for the last 15k miles - changed every 2k miles and oil filter every other change - change the clutch springs recently - looks brand new inside @ 37k miles now!

EDIT: Its £16 for 5L too!!

Thanks for all your info Born - tried all your tips to no avail. In the end I brought a recon'd rear master cylinder from ebay for £12 - back break is bloody perfect now.

(The tell tale sign for me was the lack of a little woosh of fluid into the reservoir when the pedal was depressed)

Asda 10/40w changed every 2k, champion oil filter every other oil change - changing your oil regularly is better than sticking in overpriced stuff and forgetting about it.

Have u got the pack when the bike was purchased? if so check the key number and send off for a new one, i paid £8 for mine.

No need - just wander into you local Timpsons - got 3 spare keys cut for mine for a tenner!
