Pleased to hear you're OK. My old teacher told me to regard everyone else on the road as a complete idiot except yourself. It's good advice but doesn't allow for the fact you sometimes let your guard down and the complete idiot ends up causing you grief. As has been said bikes can be mended and gear replaced. You can sometimes be mended but never replaced. Take it as a lesson you survived and  it will serve you well in the future, as many others, myself included have. Good luck and safe driving.

PS: If you still need an helmet Ghost Bikes have got a sale on.

Two things to bear in mind.
What bike and how well has it been looked after.
A 30 odd year old ex learner Rd250 Elsie with 20 thou on it will have been snagged more than a Westminster rent boys botty.
An old BMW R80 of the same age could have 5 times that mileage but have been serviced by an anally retentive OCD sufferer who almost has a stroke if he gets caught out in the rain on it. Common sense tells you before you buy it how well it's been looked after.

Murderous c*nts in cars at roundabouts who either don't know, don't care or are simply in such a rush they're prepared to kill someone. Like the dangerous twot who driving the Iceland delivery van who drove  straight over the Hensingham round about almost running over a cyclist. The poor cyclist was around 60 years old and just managed to brake and stay upright as the van missed him by about six inches. How hard can it be to give way to the right? :rolleyes

Tool kits (in the original plastic packet) often turn up on eBay for £18 to £25. Better than a comprimise multi tool. :)

Finally got a signal. Type in 331313799530 in the item search box. These are the ones I bought and were delivered in two days. Good luck.

Just buy the LED lamps. It's a doddle to take out the glass bulbs and fit the LED ones. They are polarity concious but you simply rotate the holder through 180 degrees. There are a couple of UK sellers on ebay that will get them to you in under 5 days for under £3. If you get the square ones they are a tad large for the holes (much brighter though) and will require a bit of judicious filing with an emery board to round off the PCB corners. I'd give you the link to the ones I bought but I can't because I'm at work. If you need the link let me know and I'll post it when I get home.

Type this into ebay search '10x Car 0.2W T5 SMD5050 LED White Light Instrument Panel Lamp Bulb+Lamp Holder'. Go for the white ones though. I put them in mine and they're much brighter, great result for under £2. Just remember they're  polarity concious so make sure they're in the right way round and actually light up before you put it all back together. Good luck.

Does anyone know if the later clockset from 2003 foxeye (the one with the two separate LCD displays) fits the 2000 model year boxeye.

I wish him all the best. He's a real star from the old school. No airs or graces and he has true character, something that's sadly lacking in the modern world. As has been said he is a truly excellent ambassador for the motorcycling world.

With regards to the bend, this happened when I fitted a replacement. I took it off and put a couple of washers on the inside of the mounting points, (bloody tricky) but it took the bend out.

When I did the gearbox on my Jawa 350 I reassembled the crankcases with Hylomar Blue. It worked a treat. If it's good enough for Rolls Royce it's good enough for me.

Absolutely inconsiderate bastards who ride towards me whilst I'm walking on the pavement and then expect me to jump into the road so they can use the pavement as their own cycleway.
Oh and the feckin horsey set who do the same.
Oh and the horsey set who let their steeds shit a small mountain in the middle of the pavement for the rest of us to avoid. Not easy if you've got a buggy and don't like playing chicken with speeding vehicles. I'm going for a lie down. ✊

I've done it before with ratchets but you need good quality ones that are at least 10mm wide. You need to do them two springs together and at 180 degrees then the two next and so on. When you've compressed three you'll have around a one and a half inch free play. Refitting once in position, cut one off at a time doing them in pairs on each spring. Its sounds hairy but it works. Oh and you need a good pair of pliers, better still a pair of mole grips so you don't skin your knuckles whilst trying to tighten the ties. Good luck. :)

If you sustained the damage as a result of a pothole   put a claim in to your local council for the cost of repairs/replacement.

Its a doddle to clean the inside glass (plastic).
Remove the screen, unplug the clock lead (but remember to write down your trip meter reading first because this will be erased). Remove the three mounting bolts and lift off the clocks. Once off turn over (place on a soft surface to avoid scratching the surfaces) and remove the seven screws and you can then separate the front clock case and clean the insides. Takes no time at all. Hope this helps.

Depending on how bent they are depends on whether they can straightened. I've had it done before. It's done on an hydraulic rig and mine were quite visibly bent but were straightened perfectly for a tenth of what a new pair would have been. Good luck.

General / Re: 'Dish it' Funny bike accidents you've had
« on: 01 September 2015, 09:41:01 pm »
As daft as this sounds it is true. At the tender age of seventeen I had a Vespa PX200E. In those days scooters had the clutch/gears on the left handlebar. I agreed to deliver a few papers for my idle younger brother and pulled up outside the houses. I switched the ignition off and put the bike on its main stand. When I returned to the bike I switched the ignition on and standing next to the bike I kick started it. To my utter horror the feckin' thing fired up and jumped off the stand and ran riderless down the road. To make things worse it hit the only parked vehicle on the road, an old mini van. I'll never forget the look on the van owners face when he ran out of his house. He looked down at the bright orange scooter lying on it's side revving away merrily. The astonished look on his face when he clapped eyes on me standing about a hundred yards down the road was priceless.  :rolleyes

Safe and happy riding when you get one.

I'm that desperate for a fairing I didn't read your post properly.  You've only got the brackets. Sorry about that. Back to the search.

Is the fairing for a boxer, I need one in either Gold/Silcer/Black, Gold or Black. If it's any of these colours how much to post to CA28 8XJ,  Whitehaven in Cumbria.  Thanks and all the best  Tom.

Good call. Obviously not a permanent fix because the petrol will probably eat through them in time. A good temporary fix to get you mobile again whilst awaiting the genuine part. Well done.
