Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Top box racks and Givi part numbers
« on: 18 August 2015, 01:00:59 pm »
I am looking to install a top ox rack on my 08 FZ1 but I am a little confused with Givi part numbers.
There are two numbers that I have found and they both look the same and are the same price.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a 365FZ and a 359FZ??

This is the 359

Is it a traffic cone?
Is it a fluorescent shuttle cock?

No apparently it is a Muslim lollipop lady in Birmingham.

I think I would probably crash after loosing control from laughing too hard

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Some new bits added
« on: 07 July 2015, 02:46:39 pm »
Today I fitted some new bits to make things a bit more to my taste.

First up was a new tail tidy, I don't like the look of the OEM one so it had to come off, I fitted a new or from Evotech performance and it is a nice bit of kit.
It is not the easiest job as the whole back end has to come off to get at the wiring and run the new stuff in.
The new one comes with an LED number plate light and all of the hardware to fit it.
it took about two hours all told but I think it was time we'll spent and I am much happier with the look now.

Next up was changing the levers, I have gone for the black, long folding levers with black adjusters, they came with red and the black was a no cost extra.
This was a 30 minute job and would have been much quicker if I had not dropped one of the ball bearings when I was changing the adjusters over.
Bonus is now I have a clutch adjust as well

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Flashing ABS light
« on: 05 July 2015, 12:41:39 pm »
When I was riding yesterday the ABS light started flashing at me.
I pulled over turned it off and back on again and it was ok for a while but then it started again and reset again.
I was not riding stupid, when it happened, or doing really heavy breaking and the ABS did function with the light flashing, I tried to lock up the rear and I could feel it pulsing.

The flash was on for about a second and then off for about a second as well if this helps.
I have checked the manuals, service and owners, and there is nothing I can see.
I have also checked t'Internet and there is nothing really about my issue.

General / Brake light flasher
« on: 03 July 2015, 09:02:16 pm »
One thing I really like on a bike is other people knowing when I am braking so I like to fit additional light and recently I have discovered brake light modulators and this was my first job on my FZ.
I have bikevis bullet V2 LED's, £32 for two red and two white, and a small flasher unit, there are many many types available for around £30.
I only remembered to take pictures when it was back together, sorry.

It is a relatively simple job.
Remove the whole rear end.
Take out the light, measure and drill holes for the cables.
Line them up and stick them in place.
Rebuild the rear end, dismantle rear end and fit the flasher unit, rebuild the rear end again.
Refit the rear end.
Run the cables through and join as per instructions.
Check you have it right and it should look like the video below.

I prefer to have the light spread as far apart as possible but the rear of the FZ1 is quite tight so I had to have the new ones on the light unit but the effect is OK.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / EXUP valve. Worth repairing?
« on: 03 July 2015, 08:35:40 pm »
After reading a post about maintaining EXUP valve I checked mine during a few other bits and pieces to get familiar with my new, to me, FZ1 but I found the cables are missing.

The pulley and valve are there but the cables are no wherd to be seen, the spring is keeping it in the open position.
The valve turns freely and I can feel and hear the difference in exhaust flow and sound.

So my question is do I fix it?
I guess it was removed fr a reason, but I don't know what.
I have the fully faired version with all the extra bits so it will be a faff to strip every thing down to get the tank off and check if the servo is there, the cables certainly are not.

How much benefit will it give me in power and or torque and or fuel consumption.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Farkles????
« on: 24 June 2015, 06:35:23 pm »
I am new to the Fazer and I was wondering what shiney things people have fitted?

I am thinking that I would like a few extras and I would like to know the recommendations, good and bad.

At the moment the wish list is, in no particular order
1. New exhaust, OEM looks a bit big and there are some really nice looking aftermarket jobs
2. Heated grips, I have Data tool fitted on my Versys and I will probably go for them again
3. Top box Rack. Any recommendations, some of them look like they overhang a lot and I would like to keep it tight
4. Tail tidy, I dont like the big scaffolding hanging off the back
5. 12v socket, need power for satnav/phone
6. Gear indicator, sometimes its nice to know.

Introduction / Hello from Stewie
« on: 23 June 2015, 07:34:06 pm »
Hello all
Newbie to the forum and to the Fazer.
I have been riding for about 20 years and currently i have a Versys 650 and I have just treated myself to an 2008 FSZ1000, I think that's the right designation, to scratch an occasional high speed itch And because it seems like a bloody capable all round bike.

I spent a lot of time umming and ahhing in the show room between a VN 900 custom and the Fazer, very different bikes I know but i wanted something different from the V, and I kept coming back to the Fazer and I could see myself on it.
I chopped in a 2000 ZZR600 which I bought on a whim last year and I which I did not fit on other properly and could not enjoy it.

I have only had a brief ride on it, I work outside the UK and had to leave this morning, but what a bike it is! Comfortable and easy to ride through town and starship fast on the open road, it has been a while since I had a liter bike but the have come along more than I would have thought.

Anyway hello again I am sure I will be round lots to find out about the new toy as well as all of you fine people.

Quick pic of old and new
