Well we all know that the Fazers are good all around bikes, but I thought I'd go out and ask a properly damnable question - what, if anything, are you all planning on getting next, and why?

The next bike I'll be having will either be either another late model ZX9R (2000-2004), or an early GSX-R1000 (same years), funds allowing.
I miss the acceleration and handling of a proper liter sports bike, yet both of these bikes are more than comfy (for me at least, the 9 I imagine pretty much for anyone) and have enough luggage options and tank range that mean I'll still be able to do long distance riding. I think the only real downer will be the pillion provision won't be as good, but then in fairness that's not exactly that much of a surprise!

The question is unfair as I have no plans to get anything else....  however the things that I've seen and catch my eye (note I know nothing about bikes) with your requirements are the Aprilia Tuono(http://www.beechdalemotorcycles.com/showroom.php#585), R1 (can't go wrong with an R1 surely) and BMW 1000SS (Better start saving :-).

My choices, were I to have any, would be the Fazer Thou, G650 GS or most likely the MT-09.

I'm sure none of my input helped, but oh well.

I love the look of the triumph rocket 3 but honestly would go for anything with plenty of torque, low center of gravity and not much bigger than my fzs600.

Consider a YZF1000, sportier and lighter than Blackbird, comfier than Ninja and GSXR.

From what I've read it sounds really appealing... unfortunately there's something about its looks that doesn't quite sit right with me...

But here's some blasphemy, I've always thought that cars are prettier anyways  :evil
+4, fancy a test ride on the MT 09, could also be tempted by a KTM 990 SMT

Have a mate and his wife down staying just now, will be glad when they have gone as the liver needs a rest.

Unlike the OFOFs, I'm still able to move all my joints. This means you, Fizzy_Pies!  :lol :lol :lol

I'd love to really thrash something like a CBR-RR or an R6 round a track. They look very sharp, and I'd like to try their hangling. Nice as it is, the Fazer 600 isn't really racebike material, is it?

Not too keen on Kawas (who could love that gruesome shade of green?), and the Suzukis leave me cold...

Yammys or Hondas, please!

If the FZ1 went would love a Z1000SX but don't think the budget would stretch. Tested a B/bird and Triumph (Sprint and Tiger) but did nothing for me.
Actually looking for another XJR1300 as my 2nd bike (winter bike :rolleyes ). Had one several years ago and it was a great bike.

Interesting comparison between those two actually!
Can see that the fella riding definitely knows the track/takes better lines as he's much wider coming into corners, he really uses the full width of the track as well when exiting them which is good. You can also see where he's catching the other fella up entering the corers as well, looks like he's braking much later and harder than the chap on the R6. R6 does get better drive out of the corners though and then somewhat unsurpisingly obliterates him on the straights!

Damnit I need another sports bike in my life  :lol

+1 for sumos. Full on racing sumo would be the perfect urban commuter if it wasn't for the frightening maintenance required. But now you can get electric ones that only need attention to tyres, brakes & chain. And the added bonus of costing pennies to 'fuel' up. Short range is not a problem if your journey is only 10 miles each way and you remember to plug it in every time you get home. The latest ones are alleged to have power to weight ratio of a DRZ400 but this will only get better. The future could well be electric. Just waiting for reliability/longevity reports to come in, and prices to come down a bit.

As my fazer is a longterm ongoing build project I went out and bought a crf250l for my backroad commute and weekend greenlaning. Bloody brilliant bike! Cheap to run (it uses the new cbr250 engine so low maintenance costs), looks the tits and is perfect for tearing about in the mud.

as standard though they wouldn't pull the skin off a cold rice pudding, but I have a stage 1 kit on mine, and it makes all the difference. Currently debating whether to get the 305cc bigbore kit

At your age I would definitely be riding sports bikes. But just try to remember you're not invincible, cos it'll f**k you up for the rest of your life if you get it wrong on the road. They're designed to do one thing well - go bloody fast, all the time, and that's what you try to do on them. If you could afford one bike for track and one for road, you should definitely go that way, get the aggression out on the track.
But I'm enjoying my biking much more now than when I had sports bikes, so just remember, there's plenty of time to indulge in two wheel fun yet. Still yet to do a track day tho, so it's on my list, along with a good European tour - boxes yet to be ticked!

My next bike? Well, I think it'd have to be a Fazer thou gen 1!  :z :lol

After I kill this bike I shall probably go for another Thundercat, does anything and everything and is just as comfy for my weekly thousand miles, just has that tiny bit more power than the fzs600!

Have you tired Honda CBR600F (F4, or F4i)? How does it compare to Fazer/thundercat?

My favourites would be Kawasaky Versys, or the mentioned Honda.
