FZS600 Fazer / Brakes question
« on: 05 September 2012, 07:33:37 pm »
Hi
My front brake has gone soft.
It has more travel than usual but even stranger it loses all
pressure and the lever comes back to the bar and no braking at all.
squeeze again and back to soft pressure but brakes work.

Going to have a look at weekend but any ideas on where the likely fault is.
ie: master cylinder, calipers, lines,  everywhere??

its a 98 600 with 68K on clock and as far as I know original lines and calipers.

Thanks

That Giro helmet looks good. Not sure how the unemployed
can afford £75 though  :)

Off to Birmingham tomorrow, can anyone advise on parking
for car near to Bullring or is it just as well to park at Bullring itself / Edgbaston street / Moor street.

council won't like the drain not going anywhere,
I have 4 inch arco drain with 42 m2 ish running into it
connected to surface water drain and it couldn't cope with recent
downpours and overflowed a few centimeters.
Council needed evidence it wasn't a foul drain I was connecting to
and a good reason why a soak away wasn't practical.

Nice to see some are happy with the Duchinni
off to J&S later in the week, look at these, HJC's and they have some LS2's never heard
of them but spec looks ok.
I'm a fan of double D fasteners as they are adjusted spot on each time.

You're assuming I need more practice and experience.
There's a section on my commute that involves overtaking into oncoming traffic.
I don't many many bikes do. No amount of training in the world is going to make me
put myself in that position. So will I never pass an 'advanced' test due to lack of progress.

Drop down sun visors, seem a great idea but
does the mechanism cause wind noise?
Whats a ratchet type fastener? I know the double D (my preference) and the seat belt style.

The Duchinni has a nice looking black 409 for an unbelievable £50
I know the "you got to spend as much as you can" brigade will be frothing at their keyboards
but If £50 does it then bonus.

That seems to blend filtering and overtaking into the same thing.
So are we saying that overtaking into oncoming traffic is ok if slow enough.
All city rush hour overtakes involve oncoming traffic.

Also doesn't not making progress and riding within your limits and comfort zone
contradict each other.

Yes, be nice to hear what the Iam's view on it is.

I always think that between lanes is filtering and I like that do it lots
in and out of Sheffield.
Going down the outside is overtaking and different as there is oncoming traffic.

Its the overtaking type for me. I seem to find myself waiting
in queues when others tootle on by.
Seems to me that it relys on the oncoming traffic to make allowances
and that bothers me.

On original topic, I did a bike safe and found the police rider took risks I wouldn't
and the whole make progress, use the bike to its advantage thing to be taken to extreme.

I thought of upgrading recently.
I have a '98 over 60K miles and not really worth much.

Then thought why spend a load of cash on another bike that will
do exactly the same job as the Fazer.

Whats the I ams, ROSPA, et al  view to filtering?
I am a riding god and all my accidents have been someone else's fault..

I do have issues filtering though and would be genuinely interested in learning more
and taking on some views.

graded licences are they way to go. Been saying it for 20 years.

regarding country lanes, I fear the locals who charge around  too fast
but its ok as they ' know the roads'

PR2's were good but had a lot of punctures. not had before (Metzelers) or since. Coincidence? I don't know
but it was bloody expensive.
Now on Avons and once the pressures sorted they are as good as the PR2's wet or dry.
