Title: Direct Access
Post by: Jacko on 02 March 2014, 07:53:03 pm
I've been asked if £650 all in, both tests, bike hire, training as required.
Is this a good price or should I advise shopping round some more. The
Lad knows the school as did CBT there a while back.

I think thats roughly what i paid, maybe even a little bit more

Bloody expensive and a shame for all newbies...especially the young.

Sounds about right to me too - I actually still have a spreadsheet from all the costs... (yeah, I'm that guy)

Mine came in at a total of £723.50 (August 2011)

Sounds about right to me. Maybe a little more or less depending on what his current standard of riding is like I suppose.

well when I sat mine, both tests were about £100-110 (mod 1 about 30-35, mod 2 about 70-75), theory test was another 35 quid (so thats £145 in tests).

My instructor was taking £50 for 2 hour blocks (including bike hire), so for the £650, that would still leave me with around 20 hours of lessons too)

Agreed and every school will be different as well. There were places near me that would do the CBT for £99 and others that were charging £160~

The place I ended up got recommended to me and so that was the main reason for my going there where incidentally the CBT was £120 but after my tuition its certainly somewhere I would recommend :) I'm in Bristol however, so I have no idea if that's relevant or not to the OP

Yup. My CBT was around £100 and by the time I'd finished all of the DAS I'd spent about £350 but ('cos I is brilliant) I only had a couple of lessons (but they were all dayers).

The school insisted that a) they'd get me through the test regardless of how long it took (without bumping up the cost) but b) (and more importantly) that they'd teach me to be a good rider and not 'how to pass the test'.

Since been back for some more advanced training and I would definitely recommend that.

Still a long way to go and experience counts but starting the right way is important.

(Climbs off soapbox).

Thanks guys, I've passed on your comments and he's saving up. He should do ok , he's been on a 125 for a year and knows the school.

When I did mine, I phoned around various places until I found someone who wanted to teach me to ride a bike, rather than pass a test!

IMO that's a much better way of doing things.

That's about the same as I paid about 6months ago ? Could probably have got it a wee bit cheaper but I decided that the guys I done my cbt with where a much safer bet than going with a company I didn't know just to try and save a couple of quid ? Would say it worked out in my favour overall as I passed mod 1+2 1st time
