TCX Boots
« on: 13 February 2015, 07:29:14 pm »
So after 5 years and one monsoon 50 mile ride in monsoon conditions my TCX goretex boots have leaked  :eek

So should I ask for my money back or buy a new pair?

I think you're being sarcastic Ging, (text is difficult sometimes)

but just incase you are somehow genuinely asking then I would say that mileage not age would be the best judge because Gore tex is a membrane, not a coating and so while you may expect a coating to deteriorate over time even if not being used you would not expect the same of a membrane.

so if you've done mega thousands of miles in those 5 years then the membrane may have been flexed so much it has given in and that would be value for money.

but if you've only done that 50 miles in 5 years and they've leaked then id suggest an inherent flaw and not buy another pair

that's foccin science yeeeee haaaaa!!!! :lol

Sorry yup being sarcastic - 50k miles and not a shred of grip left on them but only just leaking. I'm a tight arse and in 2009 when i  bought them I paid £190 out of desperation having spent 3 hours in a meeting with soggy freezing cold feet for the third time that week. These must be my best biking buy ever

That's funny, my 1st pair of TCX Infinities also lasted 5yrs with bugger all tread left (probably about 80k miles tho) - was the only reason i changed them a year ago for another pair.

Mine NEVER leaked once though, cracking boots.

I've got TCX X-tour goretex. Excellent boots. 5 years, 30K miles and still waiting for them to leak. Last pair was also goretex Alpinestars. Only gave up when I had the one dry foot one wet foot experience. Worse than 2 wet feet I think .....

Different question on the same boot.
How do you stop the torsion control squeaks from happening, WD40, grease or something else?

Especially owning a bike. Although it does remind me of my old 400N, pushed it farther than I rode it  :\
