X box help needed
« on: 02 October 2011, 02:13:44 pm »
the lad put his X box on and its having none of it, there is a red ring around the yellow "on" button, before I start to google it and sit for hours trying to get to the bottom of it, has anyone encountered this before and if so can it be fixed or is the box f**ked?
cheers

The same happened to my sons x box. He semed to know about this problem and called it the "red ring of death", as it means your xbox is dead. If you search the web you should find loads of info on this problem. At first people said they cannot be fixed but apparently they can be.
My son part exchanged his non working xbox for a repaired one and the independent local shop which did it said they would repair his old box and sell it on.
I also seem to remember a consumer programme on tv reporting the same thing with playstations and sony saying they could not be repaired but independent repairers then repaired them.

Hi
that sounds like the red ring of death.
I had it and returned it to mircosoft and they repaired free of charge as well.

This happened to me twice. The first time I sent it back to M$ for repair, they had it for two months over Christmas the gets!

Second time I bought a heatsink conversion kit off the web and re-seated the main CPU heatsink and took it off those stupid springs!

That xbox is still running now and I've had mine for many many years.

The only tricky part of the job is opening up the xbox (you can make your own tool but prolly easier to buy one) and getting the old heat-paste off the cpu and heatsink with a cotton bud and photocopier cleaner :)

My first one i sent back, think they extended the warranty from 1 year to 3 years if it's regarding the overheating. they accept it was a stupid design.
Got a new one back within two weeks and hadn't had a problem for years... until last week :\

Just bought a new one as they're so much better now and I intend to keep it for a few years anyway :)

did look at the ps3, but realised i've got 10+ xbox games sitting on me shelf  :lol

Still might be worth sending the broken one away and seeing what they say? if they can't/won't do it for free, tell em to keep it
