I took the bike to Woods in Abergele for it's 18000 mile service, dodging the showers there and back. Chin curtain for Qwest helmet awaiting me on return. I've already fitted ear pads, so if the chin curtain makes no difference to the horrendous noise levels there's nothing else to try. Out for a ride tomorrow so will try it then.

Yesterday I bought a Shoei Qwest helmet to replace my old FM. I rode to the shop wearing the FM and wore the Qwest on the way home. First impression was that it was very noisy. This afternoon I went out on the Fazer for 25 minutes wearing the Qwest,( and earplugs ), and did various speeds, up to 70 mph, very noisy indeed. I came home and immediately did the same thing with the old FM. I am really pissed off as the FM is much quieter.
I then did the same rides on my XJ 600 with the same results.
I had read some negative comments regarding noise on some sites but had also read some glowing tributes, so unfortunately I bought one. I don't know if I can stand the'jet engine' noise on longer rides,so as I am unemployed I will have to carry on with the old helmet. What a bastard ! £270 down the drain.

After two weeks being Fazerless I caught the train from Wrexham to Chester, then Chester to Abergele to pick up the repaired machine from Woods Motorcycles. Rode home via Denbigh, Ruthin, Nant y Garth pass.
Wonderful to be reunited again. I've been riding the XJ 600 in the meantime where the biggest difference, (apart from the power), is the lousy braking. The reason the Fazer was at Woods was that I had parked it at the top of the Sychnant Pass, went away for 30 minutes and found it lying on it's side. Bent clutch lever, bent handlebars, damaged crash bobbin, various scratches and scrapes. Worst damage was the large dent in the tank caused by the handlebars. The tank has been sorted and resprayed, also the fairing and seat unit. The work was done by J and S Race Paint who are based near Bethesda, and they have done a great job.Woods have replaced all the damaged parts so I'm back on the road again. I'll be out for a good ride up the coast tomorrow

18o miles in North Wales. Left Wrexham, over to Bala to meet my mate Trev. On the way to Cerrigydrudion looked in the mirrors, no Trev. Turned around, found him at the roadside with his helmet off. Bee got in his helmet, stung him several times in the neck. Carried on to Llyn Brenig,Bwlchau,Groes,Henllan. My turn to stop abruptly, stabbing pains in back of calf. Took boot off, bee in there, stung me three times, bloody painful. Onward to St Asaph, Llanrwst,Conwy, Sychnant Pass, Penmaenmawr promenade for a coffee, Llanfairfechan promenade for some food at the cafe. Several bikers there. Stayed for a couple of hours then return by a similar route.

I hadn't planned on going for a spin today but the weather tempted me. Bye, bye, wife. Hello Nant y Garth pass, Ruthin, Denbigh, St Asaph, Rhuddlan. Stopped at the Whistlestop cafe for dinner, then called at Woods in Abergele, had a natter with a few bikers in the parking area. Onwards to Colwyn Bay promenade for a cup of coffee, then to Betws yn Rhos.Llanfair Talhaiarn, Llansannan ( chippings, beware ! ), Bylchau, Llyn Brenig, CerrigyDrudion ( chippings again ! ), Ruthin, Nant y Garth, home. 113 very enjoyable miles, saw lots of bikers, and heavy traffic heading coastwards.
Hope to be out again tomorrow with my mate Trev. Going to be hot.

165 miles in North Wales. Wrexham-Denbigh-Abergele-Colwyn Bay-Penmaenmawr-llanfairfechan-Bangor-Llanberis-Pen y Pass-Beddgelert-Aberglaslyn Pass-Penrhyndeudraeth-Trawsfynydd-Llyn Celyn-Bala-Corwen-Bryneglwys-Wrexham. Police motorcyclist with speed gun in Nant Peris at start of the Llanberis Pass, in the 30mph zone. He'd just stopped a car coming towards me.In Beddgelert road thick with loose chippings, had to be very careful turning left over the narrow bridge. Saw lots of bikers especially between Trawsfynydd and Bala. No speed trap waiting in the usual spot which was surprising. All in all a very enjoyable day. Forgot to mention the scones and coffee stop on Bangor Pier, one of my favourite places.

Beautiful sunny day. Left Wrexham at 9-15am, Bwlchgwyn, Bryneglwys, Corwen, Bala. Called for my mate Trev on his FZ6 Fazer. We then continued to Dolgellau, Fairbourne, to the race meeting at Tonfanau. Incredible value for money. £6 entry and 24 races to watch. Organised by the Crewe and South Cheshire M/C. They could double the entrance fee and it would still be fantastic value. It costs over £20 to watch the local football team in the Blue Square Premier for 90 minutes !
Left Tonfanau about 5-15pm, returned by same route, 134 miles, not too much traffic.
Attached a couple of photos, Bala lake on the way out, and the famous salute at Tonfanau.
Hope everybody had a great and safe weekend.

Just arrived back from the Anglesey Circuit on the Fazer, 180 miles, great weather. Classic Racing Motorcycle Club meeting, great racing, good to see the old machines performing well.
Received my first Foccer salute at 10am near Bethesda. I wasn't quick enough to respond so apologies to you. It was much appreciated.

Rain came in earlier than expected, got caught up in the hills near Corwen with 20 miles to go. Good test, plenty of climbing. My new physio may be onto something. Three months of rides like this and I may be fit enough to go out with my friends. Hope it's dry next Saturday and Sunday. My friend and I are going on the Fazers to Anglesey for the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club meeting. Great venue, beautiful scenery, nice ride there.

I was still racing up to 6 years ago when I started with tendon problems. Since then I have seen physios, surgeons, had scans and steroid injections, do lots of stretching and strengthening. Sometimes I have to stop for a couple of months. Saw a new physio recently, trying something different. Hence, I am riding again at present. I have covered around 400000 miles since I started almost 50 years ago.
Heading off into the hills for 50 miles now. Rain will be here by dinnertime.

As a former racing cyclist i am in good company, slim willy. Cal Crutchlow is very good and has competed against Mark Cavendish in 60 mile road races on the Isle of Man. Bradley Smith and Leon Camier are also class riders. Camier has won road races. Here is a photo of my XJ 600 which I used to carry my bike to events. I will use it for the over 50's Bingo nights.

Thank-you for the warm welcome everybody. The photo was taken two weeks ago at the West Shore, Llandudno. The Great Orme is in the background. I don't think that I'll be there this weekend as rain is forecast today and tomorrow. I'll be out early tomorrow morning for 50 miles on the bicycle before the rain arrives.

I have recently purchased an 05 FZS 1000 after much deliberation. The information available on this site answered every question that I had and I knew what to expect. It has lived up to and exceeded all my expectations. It really is a wonderful all rounder.
I am an old git (in my 60's), who potters about enjoying the scenery with a slightly younger old git on an FZ6. My first machine was a BSA Sunbeam 250 scooter over 40 years ago, then a DT175 MX, a Yamaha XJ600 for the past 24 years.
