Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Frame Lids

Thanks.  Seems a lot of trouble to go to though to avoid wear on the frame?  Ah well that answers that one.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Frame Lids
« on: 11 August 2016, 02:22:16 pm »
Hi Guys

Does anyone know what is behind the two frame lids please?  One on either side and on both the FZ8 and FZ8SA.  The w/s manual does not seem to mention them.  I presume that the two caps just flip off and behind them are two screw fixings?

What I am doing is a bit of a long story.  I want to change my back tyre but the cursed ABS Rear sensor is seized inside it's housing (just like the front one was!) and I am considering unplugging the Rear ABS sensor coupler and pulling the cable right back instead of trying to prize out the sensor and risking damaging it.  If the coupler is behind one of these covers then it saves me a big job removing fairings, lifting the tank and removing the air filter case.

Any help appreciated.

I agree that the new MT09 isn't a Fazer replacement.  It has no fairing for a start and looks too much like a street bike.  The reason for buying the Fazer and before that my CBF 600 is that they are both good all rounders.  They can scratch as well as cruise with a bit of luggage.

Could well be a mistake to phase out the FZ8.

Now where can I go to burn up that 1000 mile run in?

The judder sounds exactly like my CBF.  I ride around the problem either by pulling in the clutch early or just keeping a tiny bit of throttle on.  Quite annoying.  Some guy on the CBF forum fitted a power commander and cured the problem.  An expensive fix though bearing in mind that even with a new can he could only boast an additional 5 horses.

I like the idea of a power commander in principle although it's extra kit that could go wrong.  The CBF is another good all round bike but The fuelling issue just spoils it a little.

Glad to say that the Fazer seems perfect in this regard.

Did you fit the centre stand yourself?  Is it an easy fit?

First impressions very positive.  Perky engine,  firm gearbox although 1st slightly clunky.  Fueling is excellent and much better than my CBF600SA.  None of that judder when shutting the throttle off at low speed.  This is a known problem with some Honda bikes caused by the mixture being too lean.

An all round excellent package.  Top box and rack on the way.  One decision to make is regarding the centre stand.  Do I or don't I.  I have asked the dealer to get me the two pins that are needed for the paddock stand.  Anyone use these?

So far no complaints.  Off for a short ride in a few mins to see what the clocks look like in dusk.

Enjoy the pics.

Yeh I'll definitely post some pix.

Can't wait to unleash that 106 bhp.

My Deauville was less than 60 and my CBF is 75bhp.

Should feel quite different.

When I sat on it yesterday it felt quite light too.

Roll on Tuesday.

See you soon.

Introduction / Fazer 800 2012

Hello everyone.

Traded my Honda  Deauville in for a 2012 model today.  Got an incredible deal with 0% finance.  Obviously they wanted to shift the 2012 model as quickly as possible.

It was a toss up between a VFR 800 or a Fazer 800.  The deal at he Yamaha dealer in thecnd as the clincher but also he VFR seemed a little heavy an overly complicated.

Should pick it up on Tuesday .  First ever Yamaha.  Also own a 2009 CBF 600SA.

So good to be here.  Anything to watch out for with the 800?
