FZ6 / Fazer / Throttle position sensor

Sweated away in the garage to get this little foccer off yesterday/today. The bikes not been accelerating smoothly from closed recently, so I took a stab at the TPS as the most likely culprit, given the evidence. Manual says 4k-6k oms closed and 0 to 3.5k-6.5k ohms. Mine reads 0.34k ohms closed and 0.34k-1.6k ohms when wound on, and Ive cross checked with another meter too. Theres a lot of stuff to get off to get at the little bugger too, just for the sake of two screws. Would have been much quicker to just drill two holes in the frame in line with the screws :lol

Prices on ebay range from £18 upwards. I think i'll settle for a slightly more expensive one and avoid the unpackaged available from people who can't spell the text in the adverts correctly.

What about just keeping the down one tooth permanently on the bike. Unless you do a lot of long distance motorway I can't see a problem.


Speedo reads out and Im not wanting a speedo healer particularly, plus its a sizeable hit on economy. I dont mind swapping sprockets, its no bother to me and doesnt take long at all, its just the cost of the nuts thats winding me up. I will get around one way or another, safely.

Its actually a good suggestion, I am going to look at that one. As for overkill, not really, I'd say that a very large number of riders swap sprockets for trackdays, some have specific sizes for specific tracks.

Drill the nut on the corners, use a Renthal race sprocket (with holes) & wire lock nut to sprocket, no need to keep replacing nuts, always wash threads with brake cleaner & use a couple of dabs of red loctite ...  :thumbup


Not sure thats possible, as there s a 37mm x 20mm x 4 mm spacer between the nut and the sprocket, but I'll have a look

Five or six a year I'll take the bike up to Donington Park and have some track time. I love it. But because I always go down a tooth on the front sprocket for the day, and the sprocket nut always tightens up to the same spot on the transmission shaft and can only be used once as the lip area is weak and only designed for single use, I could spend £140 a year on nuts. I looked at cutting some more dimples on the shaft to allow the nuts to be reused, but couldn't get anything in as access is tight. Nor do I have access to a surface grinder or lathe to shave a gnats cock of either the nut or the spacer that sits behind it, that would allow alternative dimpling positions. An option is getting some shim steel and cutting a shim/some shims in order to move the dimple points around a little. Other suggestions are welcome on this one.

Received my renewal quote recently, a 50% plus increase in the premium  :eek . After some discussion, we arrived at an agreed premium increase of less than 5% for the same cover.

Just waiting for a dry couple of hours now, then covering the wheels up and wafting the bike over with ACF50. I do it 2 to 3 times a year to try to keep the corrosion at bay. I washed and dryed it before taking it for MOT. When I was at the petrol station last, they'd no E5 again, seems a regular occurrence now, is it a backlash against E10?

The jury's still out on this one, I think it'll run for a while more yet too. Mines FI, but I wont put E10 in it, Ill ride around till I can fill up with ethanol free or at worst E5. Why? Because I can feel the bike does not pick up as cleanly when opened up, and I have read that there is a slight loss of bang for your buck too. Personal choice. And I have a deep mistrust of governments and multi nationals regarding the agenda for diluting down fuel.

FZ6 or FZS600??? I did my FZ6 S2 late last year, the tiniest blob of superglue in a few places should do it, although I never had a problem with mine. If its the FZ6, double check to make sure if you need to cut out the extra bits from the gasket or not

Ive had them on my FZ6, it is a little less noisy, Id say around 10 -20% initially, but it does increase again as the rubber picks up the shape of the chain links over time. Id fit one very time though

on the fazer. Bright sunny day, but coldish. Must have taken me half an hour to get togged up and get the bike out the garage. Fired up instantly, which is good given that its a couple of months since the last use. About 20 miles or so around the local B roads, looking out for damp patches under the trees/high hedges etc. You can definitely get "rusty" through not riding.

I've had 2 similar ops on my right hand.
One for Carpal Tunnel which is just above your wrist on the lowest part of your hand palm.
Also had another on the inside of my wrist at the bottom end of my thumb, but I can't remember what that one was called? I was awake when they did that one.


Both really helped with the pain, but good luck getting it sorted at the moment, there is a rather large queue for op's right now.


The pain won't go away so really does need to be sorted.


There's always a long queue for ops - I waited 2 years to have a blood clot removed from my leg!


Must differ depending upon the Area Health Authority then. Mine were just a few weeks between diagnosis and treatment

I fitted a Magura hydraulic clutch system to mine, and had carpal tunnel relief surgery in both wrists now. Have the surgery, its only minor at outpatients, should be good for the rest of your natural then

Healtech for me too. I fitted one  five years ago now, been absolutely problem free, easy enough to install from the instructions, FZ6 S2 Fazer model.

I didn't think that the S2 version was launched until 2007. The S2 actually smoothed out the throttle roll on from shut somewhat, although still not perfect. Some riders have fitted a 4 degree ignition advancer and claim that to smooth it out. Some also alter the the fuel mixture in the bike diagnostics system. I fitted a Power Commander 5 and had it set up on a dynamometer. May also possibly be a faulty/incorrectly set throttle position sensor and/or incorrectly adjusted cables. Bes to start with the easiest and cheapest potential solutions. Oh, and Id suggest not using E10 fuel, but that's a personal thing.

I'd check the continuity on the kill switch/ side stand cut out switch and, if necessary, strip them down and clean them.


That side stand switch is in a very bad place to access, which is why i bypassed mine many years ago during my elimination process stages.
In fact i still think i have a brand new one somewhere which i would have gladly fitted if it wasn't such a ball ache to do. It's never been a problem without it and it passes the MOT okay so not really a big deal to me, although you're better off having it functioning than not in fairness.


I always thought that was an MOT failure
