Gen 2 ecu
« on: 04 December 2020, 06:14:59 pm »
A mate has a problem with his gen 2,, 2 plugs gone down,,tried plugs, coils, ignition loom but still 2 plugs wont fire,,

Possibly an ecu fault.

Anyone have an ecu about,,gen 2 ?

Check all the usual suspects first

ECU's are fairly robust, so how do you know the plugs or coils are at fault? how is it not starting exactly? does the bike turn over?

Have you checked the usual suspects already -
  • was the bike running?
  • has anything been done to the bike recently?
  • is the side stand switch working correctly?
  • has it got an alarm fitted?
  • Is the battery in good condition?
  • Is the fuel pump working?
Its hard to suggest more untill we have more info.

It's very unlikely it's the ECU.  The plug caps are really a coil pack i.e. the coil is built into the top of the cap, these can breakdown as can the wiring and multi plug.  Check the plug connection for corrosion, fit and test the cap/s.

Yes, bike runs on two cylinders,
Put in a new set of plugs
Put on a new set of coils

I think they have tried an ignition loom too.

So they have taken my ecu from my fz1 back to Wales and are trying it on his bike,,by all accounts the mechanic is shit hot and has tried everything,,it seems the ecu has two signal release ways to the coils, whatever that means, it fires 2 and 2, we will know this weekend,,,,and my winter bike is laid up until ecu returns

I take it you swapped around known working coil sticks?
