Tablet Advice For 11yr Old
« on: 22 January 2016, 10:25:33 am »
Hiya fellas,

Looking for advice on a replacement tablet after my lad's Hudl (original version) died. No screen display, tried resetting etc.

Think I've got it down to 2 below:

http://www.johnlewis.com/lenovo-tab-2-a10-tablet-quad-core-processor-android-10-1-wi-fi-16gb/p2056469?colour=Midnight%20Blue

or

http://www.johnlewis.com/apple-ipad-mini-2-apple-a7-ios-8-7-9-wi-fi-16gb/p669390?colour=Space%20Grey

Now he only uses it for gaming and surfing so for me it should have :- a decent screen ppi (8" or bigger), 2GB Ram, 16GB storage, around 1.5GHz processor and £250 tops. Hudl was pretty similar to above spec I think.

The iPad I know is very popular but is it justified? Do you notice the 1.3GHz as being slower than a 1.5GHz? Is it really restrictive being tied to Apple as opposed to Android?

I'd prefer to buy from John Lewis due to their no quibble 2yr warranty.

Any advice on above or alternatives appreciated  :thumbup

I bought a computer off this company a couple of months ago no problems with them or delivery.

Diazepam is meant to work well on children :pokefun

I wouldn't waste money on Apple products for kids though that's what they normally want. I have a Samsung Galaxy tab pro (or something like that) from PC World. Cost about £150 and works great. The advantage of these is you can buy the cheaper low memory model and add SD cards to more than make up the difference for less cash.

I pissed around for years with android/non apple stuff. Then I bought an iphone, then I bought a macbook pro.
Apple is expensive but worth every bloody penny in my opinion.

I bought a Lenovo tablet from Jonn Lewis and after about a year the charging port started to play up and eventually it refused to charge at all, took it back to J Lewis and they sent it back to Lenovo who said it was down to mis-use on my part and although still under warrenty they wanted to charge me nearly £90 to repair it. J Lewis got in touch and said did I want it repaired or sent back to me without repair so I said send it back without repair (stiil waiting to get it back).
After searching online for tablet repairs I came upon a link where other people had the same problem as me where the tablet wouldn`t charge
(Lenovo) so I`m not impressed with Lenovo or J Lewis` 2 year warrenty as they seem to have washed their hands of the problem.  :o

Does it have to be new?
I was sent an email before Xmas for refurbed iPad's for £189.
I've used a few tablets and I must admit the iPad is head and shoulders above any others I've tried.
I was lucky enough to win mine though in the works Xmas raffle 3 years ago.  :)

My daughter (9) has been doing alright with an Asus Transformer mini laptop for last 1.5years. Screen pops off for use as tablet and runs win 8.1 acceptable. Came with an Office license and runs Minecraft alright. We paid about £220 back then. Maybe see what the latest incarnation of this Asus is.
Only downside is the screen/keyboard join isn't the most robust and sometimes loses connection.

It was bought around 2 yr ago with a 2yr warranty. Mrs looks after all the receipts/warranties etc for safe keeping and the soppy cow lost it so couldn't go to Tesco  :rolleyes .

Ended up buying the iPad Mini 2 (i'm impressed) - my lad was chuffed to bits and buzzing his nuts off in the shop after I'd spent a few hours winding him up about the £50 piece of crap I thought he needed and was going to buy him - poor lad's chin was on the deck all the way to Curry's  :lol .

Cheers for all the advice fellas, much appreciated  :thumbup
