General / Making a Pig's Ear Out of Booking Mother's Day Lunch
« on: 25 March 2014, 10:02:16 am »
Right then, as per title started looking around about 3 weeks ago and bugger me near enough everywhere booked - wtf!!

Got the kids to consider aswell (7 & 9) so that they enjoy their meal, don't get the hump and then wind the misses up.

Finally found one we've been to a few times where the wife likes it, the kids love it.......buuuuuuuuuuut it's on the Saturday at 1.30pm - no problem me thinks, it's a meal booked....

How feckin wrong was I eh! Told her last night where & when we were going and that all other places were booked.......

1) "Should've looked earlier, you know they book early for mother's day.........."
2) "We don't have to go there.........."
3) "Suppose the kids will have their *whatever the feck she said* to eat..............."
4) "It's not the same on the Saturday...the whole idea is that I don't have to cook on the Sunday..............."

Going to be fun....not sure why I bother! :rolleyes

Anyone else in or going to be in the dog house? C'mon, fess up  :)

General / If a bike has clip ons, can you mod to normal bars??
« on: 08 March 2014, 10:29:13 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Looking to change my daily ride from a '98 Tiger to an 05 Triumph Sprint (mate selling and it's mint). Trouble is I've never got on with clip ons so would be looking to change the bars to give a similar riding position to the Fazer.

Never done this before so any advice welcome. Would be looking to have the bars no wider than a standard Fazer boxeye.

Any ideas if this is a good move.....rough cost?

Cheers in advance for any help.

General / Fractured Radius Bone - Would you Scooter It ???
« on: 04 January 2014, 11:43:12 pm »
Hiya fellas, as per title again.

Went ice skating with the kids yesterday, arse over tit a few times and landed on me left hand more than once in pretty much the same way as if you have an off and stick your hand down. Result - extended fracture of left Radius bone. Had a "back slab" cast fitted this morning and back to fracture clinic next friday for full cast.

Problem - commute 50 miles each way to Canary Wharf & whilst the car is an auto it's also over 200Bhp and will give about 25mpg average + parking charges + congestion. Biking it saves me £800/month, I'm self employed and the cast could be on for 7 weeks from now and then time for hand to get back to life for the clutch operation.

I'm aware that the insurance may not cough if I have an issue but looking at a 250 Burgman for the 2 months - then sell it on.

Anyone been in a similar position ? Can you ride a scooter with a modest left hand grip factor?

Never ridden any scooter so not sure what to expect.

Any advice as always appreciated, even if it's to call me a tw@ for even considering a scooter.

Cheers

General / New Helmet - Legal Advice Required
« on: 21 December 2013, 05:47:26 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.

22nd October I bought, on a whim, a Schuberth C3 from Infinity Camberley for £400. Was going to wait for the show but couldn't resist.

Anyhow, the helmet leaked at the top and the visor had massive amounts of condensation, including ON the pinlock insert itself - no condensation between pinlock and visor so was sealing good. Took it back the following week, explained it all and they fitted a new pinlock and added some Silicone around the visor seal - next day, no more leaks but still condensation all over the inside including pinlock....this is with the chin and roof vents fully open. Popped back again to be told it would have to go back to Tranam who it seems supplied the helmet to Infinity and are probably the UK importers.

The guy told me he couldn't get much done the following week due to the NEC show - "not a problem" says I, I'm going Wednesday so will take it with me. Before I went, I took a short video on me phone one night to show them the issues.

Gets to the show, shows them video ("never seen that before" says Mr Tranam & the manager of Camberley branch) and explains it all - helmet has to go back to Schuberth as expected.

I get the helmet back yesterday and Schuberths answer is "Nowt wrong with the helmet, the pinlocks absord moisture so you need to carry a spare with you - obviously the pinlock is not drying out enough overnight." I explained that reasoning was complete bollox but agreed to give it another go.

Knowing it would still be shite, I strap the box with my old helmet to bike and go for the 7 mile to Infinity Camberley (raining). Gets there and sure enough can barely see through the visor.

Had a chat with manager who would not commit to refund saying he would have to talk to Tranam due to "a 2nd hand helmet being no good to him".... I explained as politely as possible how much use it was to me. Result is he will call Monday after speaking with Tranam..

Now....my way of understanding the law is that my contract is with Infinity and not some friggin importer! They have also attempted to fix the issue in the shop and its been sent back to the manufacturer so to me, they've had their chances to fix it and failed. This in my mind equals helmet not fit for purpose and money back please.

Can anyone advise any further on where I stand with this issue and any consumer rights I can hit Infinity with should they refuse a refund on Monday.

Any help as always is much appreciated  :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Optimate Charger. Any good?
« on: 22 November 2013, 01:47:33 pm »
Hiya fellas,

As per title, are these any good & a worthwhile investment.

The last few days running up to London & back with the Tiger, I've noticed it getting that little bit slower to turn over each start - to work and from work.

I always run with the headlights on (dual H4's) and have also been using the heated grips each way. Now the battery is about 14 months old & it's charging at 14Vdc so alternator all good.  The battery is made by GS and is a CB14L-A2 (short notice buy from local KTM dealer) which meets my CCA of 140A.

Question is - is it time for a new battery or should I be plugging into an Optimate or equivalent every night.

Don't want to buy a new battery @ £50 odd when I can get the below for less money. Orrrrrrrr did I just buy a cheap shite battery instead of a Yuasa?

General / Exceeding Maximum Bike Loading
« on: 12 November 2013, 05:45:24 pm »
Hiya fellas,

As per title as always.

Has anyone knowingly exceeded the maximum loading for their bike (Fazer or other) and had handling/safety issues. I'm sure people 2 up touring must have come across this in the past.

Reason for asking is simple - the maximum loading for my Tiger is 190Kg. I weigh 110Kg & my mate weighs 103Kg. Allowing for 7.5Kg of gear each that's 227Kg.

I'm doing the Reading Toy Run this year and my mate (non rider) is desperate to go. It's all lowish (40mph max) speeds and a distance of say 15 miles in total.

With the above in mind (40Kg over)....would you do it???

Cheers in advance :thumbup

General / NEC Show Discounts?? How & When?
« on: 24 October 2013, 07:37:52 am »
Hiya fellas,

Being going for a fair few years and going again this year. Trouble is all I hear about from other bikers over the years is "got this for £100 when it was marked up as £200" and other variations for boots, jackets, trousers, gloves etc.

I've managed to pick up bugger all cheap in the way of gear - managed to pick up mirrors, etc cheap, but they've been priced about right.

How the hell do people get these discounts? Is it typically on the last day (going Tuesday, can't stand the weekends). Are there certain manufacturers who typically sell at discount & are willing to haggle down? Orrrrr, is there a sneaky, stoaty, cunning approach plan?

Any advice as always much appreciated.

General / Went Out To Buy Some Chain Lube & Came Back With....
« on: 21 October 2013, 11:58:49 am »
A brand new Schuberth C3  :lol  from Infinity Camberley.

http://www.helmetcity.co.uk/products/Schuberth-C3-%252d-World-Black.html

It's a cracking helmet - no more rain down the inside of the visor, comfy as hell with excellent fit, top notch ventilation which works a treat and its quiet as fook. Best £390 ive spent in a long time.

And i still didn't get any chain lube  :rolleyes

In a predicament fellas and need some advice.

My main 50 mile each way commute is a Triumph Tiger 900 which is currently off the road until i receive some new coil packs. The Fazer is my Friday early getaway bike (and backup bike) because it is so much better at slipping through the traffic leaving London to go back down the M4.

As a result I have been using the Fazer since Monday and each day has been a bit of a bitch getting out (Monday especially). The main area is leading up to Earls Court Rd on the A4 through to the end of the M4 elevated.

The Fazer simply gets through the gaps so much easier than the Tiger and I can still make progress even when nearly gridlocked - Tiger is bloody hard work when traffic like this.

Now, due to a bad fall some 5 years ago, I can't last more than 3 days on the Fazer due to the slightly leant forward position hence the preference for the Tiger with its upright riding style.

With the traffic seemingly getting worse, I'm looking at what would be a hybrid of the 2 bikes (sell the Tiger). The bike needs a 200 mile range, decent weather protection as I ride all year, be able to have a top box and be as good as the Fazer for traffic busting but with an upright riding position. Must also be able to sit at 95mph with no issues.

The only 2 that come to mind is a 650 V-Strom :D  or a Dullville  :'(

Any other ideas would be appreciated. Cheers in advance.

General / How To Remove Visor Anti Fog Coating
« on: 03 September 2013, 02:39:20 pm »
As per title really fellas,

Have a Caberg V2R Chrono which to be honest is shite :- too noisy and the visor leaks from the top. Will replace soon but in the meantime I need to find a way to remove the anti fog coating. This is a relatively new visor and bought to replace a badly scratched (outside) one.

The pin lock never worked so that soon got binned (had a Caberg Ego before with same pinlock/leak issues....long story, back to Caberg factory etc with no joy).

After the rain running down the inside, I had no option but to wipe clear the marks left behind. This has made it worse and looks like someone has hacked one up and spread it over the inside surface. Lost count of the number of times I've tried to clean it with a V Wipe spong & Fairy liquid - just can't shift it.

Any ideas how to clean it off so I can fit a fog city sticky insert like I've had before. Any advice much appreciated fellas  :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Max Laden Weight
« on: 09 July 2013, 08:28:13 am »
Hiya fellas,

As per title really.

Does anyone happen to know what the max carrying weight is for the '00 'X' 600? i.e me at 18 stone/115 kgs (i'm 6'4 so no fat bastard jokes  ;) ) leaves how much for a pillion?

Cheers in advance :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Polishing your helmet
« on: 02 July 2013, 08:11:17 am »
As per title really fellas - any good tips on getting my helmet to look good for the ladies again!

To me its just a paint job with a clear laquer (i think) so in my eyes no different to a car. 500ish miles a week of motorway and London has taken its toll (8 months old and 17k miles covered) even though it gets a wipe over every day (still trying to get one of the girls to spit on it and rub it but no takers yet for some reason  :lol ).

Anyone using regular car polish? Was planning on using my car method of the 3-stage Meguirs (Clean, Polish, Wax)........or is this a big no no!

Any advice appreciated in advance .

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Tank Size
« on: 27 June 2013, 10:41:12 pm »
Hiya fellas,

Not long had my 2000 boxeye Fazer and really enjoying it. Makes a nice compliment to my Tiger.

Got a few issues which I will post later but for now just wondering if the 20litre fuel tank would be a direct replacement for my 2000 'X' 18Litre tank?

Could really do with a 200 mile range which i'm currently shy of. Getting about 53mpg running down M4 at 90mph then across London to Canary Wharf. Got 2 days out of it once and whilst i made it, it took 16.5 litres to brim - too close for comfort so the bigger tank would be good.

Any advice appreciated in advance.

Hiya fellas,

Picked up a '00 FZS6 while my Tiger 900 was side lined for a while. Love the little Fazer, cracking bike for commuting & scratching. Got a few questions which I will add all over the site and looking forward to a good laugh at the same time

Cheers
