How are the two outside exhaust air inlets drilled and tapped? Space above is tight....
just use a 1/4" drive socket, takes a while at 1/2 turn a time though.i didnt drill mine, just tapped

Seriously, though, I'm not averse to doing a few down here if folk happen to be passing on a riding tour of the Costa Blanca.  You would have to be 100% sure that yours hasn't been 'Ivanised' already though!

There were about 3600 Gen 1s sold in the UK, I believe.  I think I've laid spanners on around 600 and I'll leave it to you to do the maths. ;)

sad news you are semi-retiring but enjoy yourself
do you have a record of the ones you have done? if i gave you my reg would you know if it had been done?

as above
drain coolant to below stud level
run a tap down the thread get a new stud and coat threads with jb weld and a bit in the hole. screw in and leave overnight
that should seal the hole

Yes got part of a bolt  so do I measure that??
measure the dia of the stud pref with calipers but you should be able to see size with decent rule. prob 8mm or 10mm, your pitch is distance between teeth

« on: 30 April 2017, 08:43:11 am »
Its an un-branded one that cost 40$, but i do have a Gunson one, just not the right adapter, so may look for the right diameter one

Maybe if i am lucky it will be off by 60PSI and all they cylinders are fine  :lol

im sure it wouldnt be that far out but wishfull thinking. still sounds like valves though.
if it turns it to be valves burnt then it might be cheaper to find a good used head than to have them recut and replaced

is the compression gauge a decent one? can you check it against another to make sure its reading correctly?

Looks a lot like the PZracing gear indicator which is also made in Italy. Don't know what a DLC port is but if its the same as the wiring for the PZR it is true plug & play only £30 cheaper!
Rob
DLC is Diagnostic Link Connector

hope they haven't burnt the valve seats

when you changed the gasket did you see any obvious wear on the bores?
have you checked the valve gaps? if tight they could have burnt the seats
oil test should show if valves or bores but i think valves

« on: 25 February 2017, 01:13:21 pm »
I'd flush the system as you're only using distilled water.Leave it on the sidestand with the drain bolt out and just pour it in until it runs out clear.Peace of mind if nothing else :) .

Cheers, so I don't need to run the bike then? Just let it go in and through until clear? What about the expansion tank, that won't empty, will I need to remove and clear?

Thanks Blackcabbie I had looked at that, they have a sale on too so can get three litres for £6, not sure if that's silicate free or low silicates?

the concentrated one is silicate free so that should be the same

Hi Tefer,
You'd have to make sure that it has the necessary corrosion inhibitors for aluminium engines and is also low in silicates, just as mickvp has stated. Personally I wouldn't use it if it doesn't meet those parameters.

Yeah noticed that MickVP got Halfords stuff, not sure if its this? http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/antifreeze/halfords-oat-ready-mixed-antifreeze-5-litres

Post is over two years old but thought i'd ask here rather than start new?

thats ok as its silicate free (silicates will damage the water pump)
usually cheaper to buy it neat though rather than ready to use
if neat then best to mix with distilled water rather than tap

The one I have doesn't say whether it is silver or aluminium. The code is SIMVHT31C
thats the aluminium one  :thumbup

Heating it would expand it and make it smaller internally. :lol
heating would still make the hole bigger
thats why you heat a tight lid on a jar to loosen it - the whole lid increases in diameter not just the outside.
i used to work in a railway workshop where we fitted steel wheels to axles by heating the wheel
