General / Answer me this...
« on: 05 November 2013, 05:29:00 am »
Now its november, the days are getting colder and winter is approaching. I was taught at school that winter comes once a year because the earths trajectory around the sun isn't perfectly round, its slightly oval, so for a few months of the yearly orbit we are further away from the source of heat and thus cooler.

I know that the earth spins on its own axis once every 24 hrs to create day and night, and it orbits the sun once every 365 ish days to create a year, but how come australia has their winter in july and their summer in december??? Surley in December they are just as far away from the sun as we are (minus the diameter of the earth, which is fek all when considering these distances)?
how come the whole planet isnt colder when it is further from the sun and hotter when it is nearer?

General / that feeling of 'oneness'
« on: 25 September 2013, 09:10:29 pm »
Just been out exploring on the bike for a few hours this afternoon.  Back roads to Thetford forest then dirt tracks (byways) through the heathland and woods, getting covered in mud and totally lost. Eventually found a road and headed back home through town, plastered in mud and grinning like a lunatic as I carved through all the people in tin cans doing the rush hour grind lol!

Sometimes, if you are really lucky you find a bike that you just 'gel' with, and I reckon I've found mine.... (and it isnt a fazer lol)

A little help please!

I am doing a home study course and have been given an assignment in Word format. It involves lots and lots of diagrams that i have to draw on it (circuit diagrams, symbols, plans etc) so I printed it out so I could work it all out with a pencil. Now i need to get this completed work on my computer to email it back for marking. FAAAAR too many pages to scan, and i cant open the file in Paint as it is the wrong format (?).

Ideas? :rolleyes

cheers - Jon

Yup, I know it aint a fazer (my fazer is still a work in progress)... been tinkering with my dirtbike. Crf250l. Nice little bike but a bit choked up from standard.

So far I have fitted a full yoshi exhaust system, done the airbox mods, 13/42 sprockets and now a EJK (electronic jet kit). Thats as far as I can take it without going down the bigbore route.

Amazing difference from the day I bought it, I guess the warranty is void now though lol!

General / a pleasent surprise
« on: 28 June 2013, 06:58:39 pm »
I was halfway through a job yesterday when my cordless drill finally gave up on me. 18v bosch that I have had for about 6 years, did well really.

I didnt have any cash on me, but I djd have my argos card so I jumped on the bike and went to get a 'cheapy' drill from their limited stock. Now, I've always sworn by makita and bosch, but all they had in stock was a stanley fatmax 18v. It was in the catalogue for £150 with 2 lithium batteries, but when I checked the stock it said £99!

I didnt expect much from stanley, but I have just spent all afternoon drilling holes in brickwork and I am still on my 1st battery. The little drill has got plenty of torque and has even got metal gears, like dewalt used to have before they went all budget.

It feels well made and comfy in the hand, the case is nice and compact and the charging time is only 40mins.

Could be a little bargain!

General / opinions please

Finally got my arse into gear and done some work on the fazer... repaired the seat unit, fabricated undertray, reworked the petrol tank mounting, now fitting a black swingarm and shorter dogbones to jack it up a bit. Now, I have ordered some black snakeskin effect vinyl wrap for the tank, seat unit, headlight, mudguards etc, but should I paint the frame and engine bars (removed in this picture) red as I planned, or keep it all black with just a few subtle red touches (rimtape, levers, piping on the seat etc)?

General / favorite album
« on: 01 March 2013, 07:03:46 pm »
Ok people, lets hear what you rate as your favorite album.... now I know all the obvious ones, the rock classics - dark side of the moon, sabbath, tubular bells, zeppelin etc etc, I am talking about the surprise gems, the ones that you didnt expect to be any good but actually blew you away, the ones that you keep wanting to hear every song again.... just as soon as the next one finishes cos you wanna hear this one too, and the next and the next.... the albums that everyone says 'really? Why?' until you sit them down to listen to it! The albums thatyou bought on a whim then discovered that every song is a belter!

I will start it off with Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

I was expecting a bit of emo whinging and discovered a... well, lets just say it is probably the best album as a whole thing, start to finish, since Division Bell by Floyd

General / Scary filums
« on: 13 February 2013, 06:45:49 pm »
Aint seen a proper scary film for ages. Anyone suggest any good ones?

(I like films with a twist and ones that 'get under the skin' rather that simple gore-fests like Saw etc.... stuff like Event Horizon, The Haunting At Conneticut or The Ring are far better than slasher films).

General / Show us ya toys
« on: 22 October 2011, 10:27:47 pm »
Just curious to see what toys people have got stashed away in their garages/hangars/moorings. Not the usual stuff, but those totally impractical money-pits that consume all our spare time :rollin

To start the ball rolling...

Started out as a standard xs650, its a bit further towards completion now.

So, whos next?
