I gave it a quick wash with normal car soap crap, then covered it in oven cleaner, best de greaser going!

Does oven cleaner not eat/damage chrome and alloy/aluminium.
And
When using the 80grit, does this need to get into nooks and crannies , deep into the fins, under cables and hooks where even tiny fingers cannot reach.. All those hard to get places?
Nope was fine on mine, just dont use super duper high strength, i used some epic expensive stuff on my forks it made them eww. don't really need to get deep inside the fins tbh, just do what you can with a knife and brillo pad/wire brush, it wont really be seen, mine was a rushed job using no special tools and it looks great.

little update no real pics but.. painted engine, took wheels off gave them a paint too. got new stickers on the tank and fairing. front mudguard resprayed forks cleaned up swingarm cleaned and shiny. progress from when i got it to now.

Shouldn't be any need for paint stripper if its that bad, got a pic of your engine?
mine litteraly brushed off, a brillo pad got some of it off it was barely stuck down.

Thanks, it was restricted yeah to 33bhp..Washers werent there. Found out in a older topic where it doesnt go over 8rpm in 6th and stays the same speed , that the Needles might be different from the original ones.Going to check it out tomorrow.Or maybe now.
If its restriced to 33bhp it wont go over 99mph~ you sure you checked the right place? between the engine and carbs

It means it is restricted, look between the carb rubbers and cylinder there will be big washers with holes in them take them out

I gave it a quick wash with normal car soap crap, then covered it in oven cleaner, best de greaser going!
then cleaned it all off and a wash with fairy liquid.
once id done that i let it dry started the bike up and let it idle for about 5 minutes got it warm then just sprayed it.
I used cheap poundland gloss black spray which is actually pretty good and hasn't been heat damaged yet.
to get the old paint off i just used a brillo pad at first to get most of the flaky bits off then the back edge of a knife, dont use the sharp side youll scratch it, then brillo pad after to get the rest of the small bits off.
Once youre done just use a sponge to paint the fins, dont sand it off.
Done my wheels with the poundland spray aswell!! £1 for 300ml ive used 5 cans doing engine, side panels and both wheels.

If ya cant break the bead put the wheel on the floor under your car tyre and drive over it (Y)
Obviously put something under the rim and make sure you only run over the edge!

if its all one coat im sure with a small hole itll eventually get under it all? anyway.. painted with a sponge today, poundland "silver tyre" spray, sprayed onto a poundland sponge... pressed a bit hard in some places so the silvers gone everywhere, will need to clean it up later.

Nope, i guessed this is what causes the paint to flake in the first place, allowing moisture to get in, im just going to sponge and silver paint it (if i do paint it silver)

yep cleaned it as best as humanly possible with every de greaser i could find.
the secret is to use poundland spray paint and if it goes wrong its not a problem, i used 1 whole can to do it.

Looking for a super cheap exhaust to put on my fzs that isnt standard, current one is too quiet and heavy, not too concerned with condition as im looking to pay £0-£20  tight i know but its not the highest on my list of things to do.

Cambridge is too far from me or id take this and teach my partner how to fix and engine  sold mine working for £50 on ebay as above but even at £100 no-one wanted it, was re listed 3 times before a guy come and picked it up to use in a track bike. lowest courier i can find is £50 for delivery.

Any ideas on what exhaust would fit a 98 fzs 600?
Looking for just the end from the link pipe and one that i could take apart and empty.
ones with rivets are preferred as i can just drill em out empty then re rivet.
could cut mine but i can't weld it back up after, ive already smashed holes in the inside of it at the outlet end, more noise but not enough and i can't be bothered to spend £100 on a different exhaust

Hmm...
there must be a market for an iphone/ipad mini appthat'll show rpm (would need some kind of adaptor to work out the rpm) and speed (via GPS)...
could knock one up in less than an hour but it would be a bit inaccurate due to changing gear. can set speed and rpm with no issues but then you'd have to do speed @rpm in gear x, means you could be doing 50mph in 6th gear at 4000rpm or 50 in 5th at 6000rpm so you wouldnt be able to accurately do it unless you had a way to set the gear changes whilst doing them or you would be at 5000rpm in 6th doing 60 when your phone says youre doing 20,000rpm lol. Rpm + speed above are examples and may differ.

my divvy had a whine but only in 6th, no idea why.. made it sound a bit like an electric bike.
I have some vibration but its not too bad.

I took the headlight out and tried turning it round so i can see the adjusters but i still can't see them. i give up.
