FZS600 Fazer / 98 fzs 600 carb needles, is this right?
« on: 29 January 2016, 02:03:06 pm »
cant seem to find a picture online soo thought id ask here...

my fzs has always been well under the claimed top speed of 145, infact itll see 120 tops head down with a bit of wind behind and 130 downhill head down and im a pretty slim guy...

the previous engine was the same so its not the engine, took the carb apart to find these needles but the main question is the yellow colar? are they supposed to be there? it does have the other washers on all of them but just slipped them off for the pic.

i had a weird issue with it bogging at full throttle hence why i had these out and dropped the clip down so the needle doesn't sit as high, it now doesn't bog at full throttle but now i have to warm it up a fair bit before i can give it the beans pulling away or it bogs.. not really great for taking it on the track as ive gotta let it warm up for 5 minutes before i even think about going onto the track.

FZS600 Fazer / im not mad.. im just dissapointed. [[[SOLVED]]]
« on: 29 January 2016, 08:14:48 am »
due to ongoing ill health ive barely ridden my bitch but i got a call from my other half yesterday saying she had missed her train so could i come get her... hopped on the bitch for the quick 7 mile trip.. got a mile or so up the road slowed to a crawl for a car turning accelerated away hearing a bang.. instantly knew what happened.. chain decided it wanted to break.....

i haven't exactly treated the chain perfectly however it wasn't that old so who knows.

also managed to destroy the clutch push rod at the same time so new chain and push rod...

can i call it a new bike if everything is new? because at this rate it wont be long.

FZS600 Fazer / rear brake hose banjo position
« on: 04 January 2016, 12:32:27 pm »
fitted a braided hose as my last hose had a small split from my last "incident"

however i forgot which way the caliper side banjo goes in relation to the nipple ...

its currently got the nipple behind the banjo so you cant see the nipple looking at it from this side

For Sale & Wanted / wanted: 98 fzs 600 carb diaphragm
« on: 24 December 2015, 04:57:55 pm »

and noticed one of my diaphragms has gone hard and deformed.

FZS600 Fazer / Hid projector thread: My completion (pretty much)
« on: 20 December 2015, 10:01:35 pm »
Loads of different light types im finally done!

Bought a set of 2.5" hid projectors from ebay here: £25 or so for 2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331462742506?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The 2.5" are a bit too big but they do work, however if you can get them in 2" then go for it!

The plastic shroud doesn't fit over the projectors once they're in the fzs headlight but it doesn't matter.

I bought both in h1 as i had h1  bulbs, the h4 side of the fazer headlight goes in no problems screw it up tight, the h1 side doesnt fit you dremel the hole out so it fits, took me a few minutes.

You will need to split the headlight in the oven at a warm temperature for 10-15 mins.

Once id fitted it all, put back on bike, wasn't good enough for dark country lane riding with no full beam as i had 2x 55w ballasts + bulbs but when going from dip beam to double dip beam theres not much more extra lighting and you have to wait for it to heat up.

I purchased this wiring loom: £8 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310814227119?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It has a hi/lo controller which activates the electro magnet inside the projector which uncovers the full reflector for full light.

the wiring for this is:

You can buy a different one but this "worked" for me, only problems i found where, labled above, the layout i went for was the shorter ballast  power lead on the right hand side as the h4 plug connector was the same side, the longer ballast power lead is LONG! it must be a good 50cm too long so just coiled it up and cable tied out the way.

The other problem is the battery wire to the h4 connector (back of bike to front) is very tight! its only just long enough so you could make it a bit easier and add a little more length to the positive battery wire.

but once its all laid out its simple.

The next task is to provide the h4 connector on the harness with all 3 pins of power, a lot may have already done it, the headlight mod! under the tank is a blue plug, remove the green wire from the plug and run a lead from that to the white(i think) lead on the wiring harness (the top connection), i had to remove the pin from the wiring harness and used spade connectors on a length of wire.

then simply plug the h4 in, plug the ballasts into the power leads, bulbs into ballasts, its a bit fiddly doing all of this with the masses of wire, plug the hi/lo plugs into the 2 little wires coming out of the projectors and secure them to the fairing or under the tank where mine are.

The 2 earthing wires, the right hand side i connected to the top right allen bolt that holds the mirror bracket to the front subframe and the left side was to the fairing bolt on the left side of the tank.

now turn the ignition on and lights on, now you should have both lights iluminated, if not check the ballast plugs are the right way round and the earths are making contact with bare frame.

switch it to main beam, you should here the flaps inside the projectors open up on both and full beam on both lights.

tada :D

Total time to remove headlight, fit projectors to the fzs headlight and refit to bike: 2 hours taking it easy.
time to wire it all in properly: 30 minutes tops

anyway

pics of the light!
i have to adjust the lights with a couple of washers behind the top of the headlight mount on the subframe as when i put this together i didn't bolt the projectors up straight so at lowest adjustment they're a bit too high with a pillion

dip beam (both iluminated)

Main beam both

Pics don't do it justice however ill try get some when i go out next.

They look much higher in the pics as its on the centre stand.

I think ive covered everything but any questions ill try answer as best i can.

FZS600 Fazer / possible leaking carb rubbers.... fix?
« on: 04 December 2015, 12:42:32 pm »

Some sort of clear spray?

I looked into silicone spray but appears to just be a lubricant version (is this any good on chains btw?)

FZS600 Fazer / weird running issue aswell
« on: 01 December 2015, 06:48:53 pm »

FZS600 Fazer / something seems to be missing...
« on: 13 October 2015, 01:52:13 pm »
i was sure i heard the sound of something falling off my bike behind me but had earplugs in so didnt think anything of it...

can you spot it :D

(the yellow square on the rear fairing is a specially made reflective sticker, its actually black to the normal eye untill light is on it)

anyone have a spare laying around?

And keeping with tradition, i know the reason this fell off... just 2 days ago i ordered bearings all round for it as a little treat... why do i bother.

its like an angry woman that is mad because im trying to change her :(

FZS600 Fazer / fzs acceleration.. how does mine compare to yours?
« on: 12 October 2015, 01:57:56 am »
did a little video with my cheap camera pointing at the speedo...

angle was bad but can see from 40-120
filmed it off my laptop as for some reason uploading it to youtube destroys the quality even more.

This was filmed on a private road!

and  yes that was 0-60 in 1st gear.

running +1 front and +10 profile on rear tyre.

20
FZS600 Fazer / boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics?
« on: 09 October 2015, 12:39:55 am »
so ive fitted hid to the left side orn my boxeye...

I keep seeing people saying "turn night to day" but mines more.. turn night to dusk...

55w led + ballast..

Anyone here fitted hid to the left side got any pictures of how it looks at night on a road and not a wall at 5 yards.

im trying to work out if its my kit thats weak or just crappy due to the bad reflectors.

Hid bulb only not hid projector.

FZS600 Fazer / screen: found a use for an old visor
« on: 02 October 2015, 06:25:12 pm »
new helmet arrived today and rather than having a spare helmet i decided to harvest the visor.

Put it in the oven and had a rod along the length of it to straighten it.. eventually it was soft i chucked it in cool water removed the rod after it cooled and it went back to its normal shape.. visors are awesome!

got the dremel out, cut the 2 sides off and ground down the tab for opening it, sprayed it black and done.

tried it on the outside of my original screen but it just looked silly and would mean drilling holes and bolting it on..

tried it on the inside and it looked pretty cool! the original fittings for the screen held it in place so just a case of tightening the screws on the screen and its held firmly.

how much difference in the wind itll make i dont know yet.
before: yes it does need a wash!

FZS600 Fazer / front brake pad movement
« on: 27 September 2015, 12:55:46 pm »
noticed an annoying sound when i hit lumps in the road and sometimes when i brake sounds like a clattering sound...

checked the front end out and the pads seem to move up and down like a see-saw

i havent had this problem before it seemed to start not long after i changed the pads..

Anyone else have this? is it normal?

both r clips are in place properly.

im thinking it didn't do it before because the retaining pin had a lot of gunk around it so couldn't really move freely

FZS600 Fazer / today i took the fazer on the track
« on: 19 September 2015, 06:05:22 pm »
went to a track day today and decided to take the old girl out....

only a small track (lydden hill) so mostly first and second gear, it  held its own and i only got overtaken a few times mostly got caught up on the straights or out accelerated out of corners.

i did make a video but my camera mount came loose so the angle is a bit sucky and its vibrating a lot... in the process of uploading so i will post it up providing i dont get hate for the fact it was living near the red line and the front wasn't always on the floor.

And it didn't fall apart!!

very bad video:
as i say camera mount loose so angle dropped and it was pretty wobbly!

i like how the screenshot below is on the back wheel :D

! No longer available
