Simple. I didnt. The rubber sealing caps were a real tight fit into their sockets, so i didnt feel the need to blow any crap out since there wouldnt have been any crap there.

Did it this morning, dropped the radiator but left all the pipes connected to it, just let it hang there. Bit of a faff, but doable by the average rider methinks. Plugs looked in good  order, just cleaned and gaps checked/adjusted

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Front Pads Binding
« on: 06 July 2017, 09:22:02 pm »
On the last picture posted, there is a groove in the inside face of the left side of the caliper, that shouldnt be there, have you checked the discs? You also should check that the bobbins are free to rotate within the discs. Whatever size hole is in the bobbins, fit a screw with a nut on the back and nip them up on the bobbin. Then spanner the screw round while spraying in some brake cleaner.

Might also be that he pads are jamming in the caliper even though the pistons are returning. Check the brake pins/guides.

Failing that, full overhaul of the calipers. Not much difference in the end result of either riding around with brakes dragging and risk of locking up, or failing to apply when reqd

Just to clarify, you rode the bikes for 2000 miles with the brakes binding? Just be aware, there is always an amount of drag present, the front wheel will not rotate endlessly when spun by hand, pistons do not retract all the way back to the bottom of their stroke. Check youve not too much fluid in the master cylinder. With the cylinder cap off, you should be able to push the pistons back fully if there working ok. Just watch for fluid spilling out of the reservoir

The Gen 2 (known as the foxeye) came with a bigger tank, and I think stainless steel exhaust. Lights are also superior to the Gen 1 boxeye. The FZ6 S2 model is the pick of the FZ6s, comes with abs and better brakes than the FZ6, and a much nicer looking swingarm. I rag my FZ6 S2 around donington park on trackdays without any problems

Chuff me, had a look at the manual, reads like a major task. Remove tank/airbox/radiator etc. Anyone know of any short cuts?

Supposedly, if you have reasonably small hands, you can actually get in from the sides and, with a bit of fiddling, do it without removing lots of bits. There's a description of the technique here: http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/fz6-fz6r/361128-how-replace-your-sparkplugs-20-minutes.html

I think (although I've not tried it yet, that you could just unbolt the radiator and support it to give better access without having to take the whole thing off, but do that at your own risk!

Looks like its worth a go then

Is that £1,400 write off value, and then you have to buy it back. If it is, you need to find out the buy back cost now

Next valve check is in another 25,000 miles, yeah? If thats the case, then Id do them while youve got it part stripped. Another 25,000 is a long way

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Does the ignition key fit the seat lock?
« on: 26 June 2017, 05:15:50 pm »
You have to turn the key anticlockwise, hold it there, lift the back end of the seat and slide it backwards as it hooks under the rear of the tank

An assessor should come to look at the bike damage. He'll sent the info with an estimate to the insurers. You will be made an offer. You can refuse the offer and try to get it revised upwards. You should try this as the insurers will try to get away with the least cost to themselves. They are not interested in you. They are just trying to save money.

Good luck with it

Which gear indicator did you attempt to fit? I researched heavily before i bought mine, and the nearest to actual plug and play was the Healtech unit. As far as i could ascertain, none of the others were compatable with the S2 model due to the ABS. Have you tried switching the ignition on and pressing the reset button? Double check the connectors underneath the fuel tank are good, and that none of the fuel lines are trapped

Doubtless, we all have our own reasons for voting Leave or Remain. I voted Leave. I was born in the early 50s, and went to schools in my local village/town, because a place was created for me at birth. My parents did not have to trawl all the schools within 50 miles to try to find a vacant desk, or move house to do so. When I left school, I had a choice from any one of umpteen major employers, or nationally owned utility providers, and hundreds of other companies. Todays leavers have little hope of finding work, so are encouraged to stay on at the "Acadamys", or encouraged to go to University and then compete for the non existent work opportunities. As I grew up, we explored the local areas, and it was indeed rare to find a field, anywhere, that did not have a crop of some description growing in it. Today, I can walk through field after field of scrub or grass, with our food now travelling half way across Europe. I walk through my local streets, and see dog shit, litter, blocked drains that flood every time it rains, because councils have insufficient funds as a result of EU imposed spending targets. I could go on, but wont. Cameron attempted to try to get the EU to reform, which may have led to doing things differently here, so that we may try to re-capture our lost identity. The EU was having none of it. It will never reform because it cant. It encouraged the Ukraine to come closer, then turned away when the Bear bared its teeth. There will be negative impacts should we finally extracate ourselves from the rotten corrupt EU, but I dont recall my parents, or all those other citizens who rebuilt this nation after after the war, complaining like todays never had it so good generation. Lets just get on with it

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Clutch mod FZ6 S2 2009/ GIPRO gear indicator
« on: 15 November 2016, 08:28:15 pm »
Correct. The leverage is slightly longer at the engine case end, due to the fixing point for the cable being further out from the pivot point than the original. There is no slip, therefore your second observation must be correct

No difference at all at the bar end, apart from being lighter to pull.

FZ6 / Fazer / Clutch mod FZ6 S2 2009/ GIPRO gear indicator
« on: 08 November 2016, 05:38:48 pm »
Wow. Cant believe its been that long since Ive been on here. Anyhow, apologies for that. Ive completed the clutch mod that involved making and fitting a longer lever at the case end, and it works a treat for me, meaning the clutch action is a lot lighter and does not cramp me hand when in traffic. Ive also fitted a GIPRO X Type gear indicator, which once the installation was finished, has worked fine. A word of caution though for anyone wishing to undertake the same, there is VERY little room in the loom for splicing in the connectors, so only tug at the wires VERY carefully. Incidentally, took the bike to Donington Park beginning of October for a trackday. Went with the novice group, what a hoot, great fun, counldnt fault the bike

FZ6 / Fazer / Lowered ride height on FZ6 S2
« on: 09 May 2015, 08:08:17 pm »
Hi All, I recently lowered the rear end, bought and fitted the mounting piece the connects the shock to the swing arm complete with new bearing and seals. Have to say I haven't noticed any difference in ride quality or performance, and I can now get the balls of my feet down both sides (I know, short arse). Had an absolute bastard of a job getting the steel bush out of the arm bracket, finished up red heating a 10mm bolt and placing it in the bore several times to transfer some heat to it, and soaking it in plusgas. Two days later of this treatment, it started to come out, all good in the end. I like the bike, rides real smooth, nice turn of pace, good riding position. Throttle a bit snatchy when snapped shut quick then back on the gas, mirror vision is poor though. Are they any good for a track day?

Aha, finally found how to start a topic. Hi all, pleased to meet you. Hope to become a useful member of the club. Old guy, 63, but that doesnt bother me. Still working for living, like to keep myself fit, like life, still got 2 bikes, the other is a virago cruiser. Just bought the fz6, part exed it for an 86 yx600 (loved that bike). Just been out for a few miles, came back and made an adjustment to the rear shock, clutch, and gearchange link arm, all to suit me. Anticipate the FZ will be my main bike.
