General / Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat"
« on: 20 September 2018, 11:52:07 am »
Gets my goat just recently is I am seeing more than you would expect, cars without a number plate on the front but it is sitting in the window. Now, I am pretty sure it is intentional and a permanent mod (until mot time) because the cars that do it all seem to be spammed up, overly dark windows aftermarket LEDs - audi or VW with the badge painted black -thats another gets my goat.
Anyone else noticed this.

I drive into that shithole Bradford 4 times a week and have come to realise that the locals just regard that as  standard trim.

Won't have to worry about potholes with one of them.

My lights and switch are still working perfectly, even after being removed from my old FZ1s and now refitted to my MT09.

Its the finance company who own the bike / car in a pcp deal, one thing to watch out for is when you insure the vehicle some insurers will ask who is the owner, you are not the owner ,just the registered keeper.

General / Re: Gift Aid
« on: 21 July 2018, 05:11:30 pm »

Gift Aid is a way charities can get more money, you donate £10 and they can claim 25% more back, and you can then claim tax relief on the £10 you donated in your annual tax return.
Most people will probably never claim the tax relief and if you do make a gift aid donation make sure it is for a bona fide charity or community sports club.

47 out of 50, one question was what to check before fitting a sidecar to your motorcycle!  They must think it is still 1950.

I have just removed the tail tidy from my MT09 and refitted the original that the owner gave me. The amount of crap from the road plastered on the back of my leather jacket and my tailpack was unbelieveable.
This was not rain , just bits of dried mud and dust from riding country roads.

When I had my gen1 1000 I fitted an adjustable span clutch lever from a Kawasaki 900 ninja.
It was cheap to do and looked " factory",  I am fairly sure a few other people had done it before me and I just copied them, you had to use the Kawasaki perch as well.

Remembered now it was the clutch lever from a Kawasaki ZX9 , C1 or C2 model.

General / Re: Best way to lube chain when bike is on sidestand?
« on: 08 June 2018, 07:39:11 pm »
The only way without a lift and not holding the back in the air on the side stand (not recommended!), is to lube a little at a time and keep moving forwards or back until the compete chain is done.

Thats what I am doing, takes ages to do it properly.
I was hoping someone might have had a brain wave and come up with an amazing simple quick idea.

As the title says what is the best way to lube the chain when you only have a sidestand?
I have no paddock stands and do not want to fit a Scottoiler or similiar.

Never mind sticking the air bags in the seat, just shove them down the back of your pants. :lol

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Lorenzo.
« on: 05 June 2018, 06:37:52 pm »
Lorenzo is about to sign a two year deal with  Honda to be "team mates " with Marquez, I did not expect that.
Apparently Zarco turned Honda down to go to KTM, hope that works out well for him.

On a related note, does anyone have an opinion on the safety of riding a tuned bike with the pc3 disconnected?
I've been informed of would need removing beforehand so that would mean a 2-3 hour ride with no custom map..... would that cause any problems other than crap fuelling?

Can you not just disconnect the pc3 when you get to Hilltop?
The tank and air filter housing has to come off anyway to access the ecu so just do it when you get there.

How much is a midges play, there should be 3mm free play at throttle.
Before you adjust the throttle it is best to balance the carbs and set your idle speed correctly.

Okay, a picture of your bike with a pub that has a name with a naval connection, e.g. The Admiral, The Ship Inn etc.

General / Re: Varifocal glasses.
« on: 21 May 2018, 02:59:25 pm »
I tried them a few years for work, top half was for distance, bottom half was basically just clear glass so I could read drawings. Could not get on with them at all, I was told to not move my head when looking down at drawings but just to move my eyes. Did my head in trying to do it, eventually binned them. I figured at work if something is that far away that I need glasses to see it then I could just ignore it.
Never tried them on the bike or driving car, just wear my normal glasses that are for distance.

General / Re: London riders: New Emisions, does it effect you!
« on: 14 May 2018, 08:52:24 am »
By 2020 Leeds and at least 4 more places will have " clean air zones"  and like London these zones will get bigger and bigger and more expensive as they realise how much money they can make out of them.
Just another ploy to use the enviroment as a tax generator and to put the poor and working class back on the bus where they belong, leaving the roads clear for their betters.
