Title: FZS1000 Radiator wanted (sorted)
Post by: JD-LincsUK on 04 August 2016, 10:23:12 am
Mine has been well holed, despite the flashy guard!  :'(

Mind you, I found some radiator repair putty under the seat, so maybe a previous repair has fallen out - in any case, I really need a replacement and I really can't afford more than about a hundred quid  :(

Otherwise I'm going to be stuck in the wife's mini-Peugeot for the foreseeable, and my back just couldn't take that!

Saw one on ebay last week for £85 (before I knew it was deffo the rad gone) and made an account specially to buy it - but it is gone already and can't find another one on there.

Ever seen a grown man cry?

I can pay by Paypal or CoD or whatever, and of course, that covers delivery etc (which I can arrange, including collection from you) if it's too far for collection in the jalopy.

Have a look at rad repair shops it can work out cheaper to get them to do it and referb to new than get seconhand unit.
They will also flush and pressure chech + you get a warrantee.

Or there is the China option but you will have to wait and I have no idea what they are like or if will fit ?

Thanks - I'll be phoning around local and recommended repair dealers tomorrow.

The China option doesn't look too bad, though.

I bought that one and it's been on the bike for a good few thousand miles now with no problems at all. It is not as well made, the brackets especially are quite thin, but for 80 quid, what the hell, it works. I gave it several extra coats of paint before I fitted it, so it might last.

The question is, can you get the fan assembly off the old one without destroying it... I had to get a second hand one off eBay.

Thanks for the number, robbo - I'll give them a bell, as well as the ones in Glasgow.

AyJay, I just took the radiator off and had no issues with the fan removal. The fan looks really rusty and crappy - but is otherwise okay.

The radiator itself is in very good condition - just a couple of bent vanes near where the leak is, but no obvious damage to the pipes/bars across the rad.

I phoned a local repair shop and they said there is nowhere in the area that does repairs, so it's definitely a send away job (if I don't go for the Chinese option - thanks for the reassuring opinion).

At least it gives me a good opportunity to clean up the mess under the front bodywork and tank!

oh btw, AyJay - did you have to pay duty and VAT on it?

Update:

Thanks for the info & tips, guys - after some phoning around, it's off to these guys next week:

http://www.eastendradiatorsglasgow.co.uk/ (http://www.eastendradiatorsglasgow.co.uk/)

They were recommended by someone here in a post from a few years ago (they do all kinds of bike radiators, including new ones) but strangely enough, the price now is the same as it was then - £45 plus VAT/postage. Totals about £65

Very helpful bunch of guys, och aye!  :)

Update:

Took it to local Spar (Collect+) Sunday - received an email from EastEnd Radiators this morning, saying they had received it and would be in touch.

Received another email this afternoon with invoice - repair complete!

Note from East End Radiators
Job done, three small repairs where the fan had rubbed through.

A bit mystified by the 'fan rubbed through' - but I will have another look when it gets back and probably see what they are on about. Main thing: Fixed in short order and very reasonable price, to boot. :)

Complete cost: £64.20
