I would not worry about the cracked in let pipes, I am sure Mike will confirm that the rubber is just a covering over metal. When I meet Mike at a Ivanising session he had a old set that he cut in half just to check.

Just wandering it is worth taking off my slip on can and trying to remove the cat in the headers. Will I actually feel any power difference? Is it worth the trouble?

Hi Tex , when you removed the cat did you feel any power difference and is it any louder? I have a slip on can.

Hi Mike , thanks for your reply. I have a slip on can with a link pipe so that is good news. I am surprised that there is so little information out there on the subject, and wander what they did change on the ECU.

Hi, I have a 05 model which I believe has a cat fitted. 05 was the only year that one was fitted and a change to the ECU. I am told it is fitted in the down tubes as the 4 go in 1 where the link pipe fits. I am told it is small and very simple design with no lampbard sensor fitted. My bike is a American import but again all 05 have the cat fitted, so they should be no difference. Looked in the Haynes manual but there is no mention of it, does any one know any thing about them? Are they worth taking out?can they be taken out?how easy is it to do? What is changed in the ECU? Will they be a power difference?

Hi, I have now managed to get a few miles on the new Metzler Roadtec 01 and Mike made a few adjustments the the front and rear suspension. The bike is much much better the handling is giving me confidence again. It feels very neutral in the corners. On the very crap road surfaces around me the ride feels a bit firm but the bike rides the pumps very well, so Mike's tweaks do seem to be working. When heavy breaking the front feels a bit nervous but will have to try it more to get a better idea. Not had chance to give it full power through the gears to see if it is still shaking its head but so far it does feel better crossing white lines and when I accelerate hard. Hope this saga of lack of confidence of the bike is over.

Thanks Dustydes for the description. PieEater says I should be replacing the seals? Bike 05 with 20000 miles. Just rang my local Yamaha dealers and they want £175 for the seals and £175 for 4 piston. (hope I don't need the pistons). PieEater says he has used wemoto they want about £45 for the front. On eBay plenty a lot cheaper but I dont have a lot of faith and my life is on the line. I am absolutely amazed at the Yamaha price, but what to do, how do I know if they want changing?

Hi I am going to do a brake service on my FZS in the next few weeks, I have the dot 4 and some red rubber grease. Never done a brake service before, so any advice and pitfalls would be appreciated.

Had the honour and privilege to meet Mike and have the full Monty today,it has now given the Frazer the wow factor that I felt was missing. Looking forward to trying it out over the weekend. It was a education to watch Mike do his magic and very much enjoyed the chat.

Checked my tyre pressure yesterday after having the new tyres fitted on Thursday. Not been able to to ride the bike since the ride home. On the invoice for the tyres it says he inflated the tyres to 36psi front and 42 psi rear, but I thought the bike felt a bit odd on the way home but with new tyres did not get to involved. Checked the pressure with 3 different gauges and the front was 40psi and the rear 47psi.If he does not have a accurate gauge who does? Will try to give the bike a ride at the weekend and see how it feels.

Tyres now changed to Metzler Roadtec 01, hope this will be the start of getting my bike back, not had chance to use the bike yet as it started to rain on the way home from having them fitted, new tyres and rain so went straight home lol.

But on a set of Metzler Roadtec 01 yesterday, a bit out of my price range but they come highly recommended from a mate. The guy who fitted them has them on his own bike, a rapture 650 and says they are the best wet tyres he has ever had on a bike. The feed back from his customers also is very good and no complaints. The only issue may be tyre life, as a few customers have had low mileage out of the rear, one guy getting only 2000 miles from the rear. That may be down to the individuals riding styles, he has 4000 miles on his bike and there seemed plenty of life left to me. So we will see how it goes and hope it might help fix my issues with the front.

Hi I have Luke's R6 shock and progressive Hyperpro springs all set with Luke's settings, but having a few problems (see my other posts) just wandering what settings you have on the front and the back?

Hi the front tyre pressure is 36psi,I am very careful with tyre pressure, if the front gets low it handles like a boat. Front springs are Hyperpro progressive and using there settings bike was dangerous with Luke's R6 shock and his settings. Spoke to Luke and went back to standard front settings and is better but still nervous. Luke is willing to help but will change the tyres first and go from there.

Hi Graham my problems seem to have started since fitting the R6 shock, had the Hyperpro springs fitted by a mechanic who I hope did it right but who knows? The bike to me felt better standard and I wish I just left it all alone. To be fair BT 021 are known to give front issues when worn so I am hoping that a change of tyre will do the trick. Luke as offered advice and been very helpful but so far the front issues are making this bike not any fun to ride and at times with the front shaking on hard acceleration and feeling very nervous crossing white lines dangerous, but it is the feel at low speed that is the biggest problem. As I said before I wonder how much is now a mental thing? I will change the tyres and talk to Luke and go from there, but may be for me it is back to standard with a few very small tweaks.

Had a ride out on Sunday and had a unhappy time of it, not sure if it is now a mental thing but the front just felt at low speed really bad, just feels weird. On good surface roads the front feels ok even in the twisters but most of the roads in my area are very poor and the front is moving about and I don't feel in control. I think it is time to change the tyres and will be getting either pilot road 03 or Metz 01. Still not sure about my bike setup, the Hyperpro front springs and R6 shock does not seem to be working for me either, but first the tyre change and may be it will get me back to enjoying my riding of what was once a great bike.

Hi been on a run to the east coast, filled upon the way out and filled up on the way back. Took care to fill to the same place in the tank and did the maths and over 56mpg, mixed riding including stuck in a traffic jam due to a unfortunately bike accident, but most of the time in top gear toodleing along at the speed limit. I think that is not bad, any one dun better?

I to have a high speed weave since fitting Hyperpro progressive springs and the R6 shock, spoke to Luke and it is better but still trying to get sorted.Having front issues and hopefully Luke will be able to help, going to get a new set of tyres and see if it helps.

Having had a few bikes and many different tyres over the years, when the rear squares off and the front wears the handling goes off, so am I answering my own question? Having bought the fzs I thought I could improve the handling by spending money on new front springs and a R6 shock, but may be I should have saved money and just bought better tyres and changed them more regularly . Feel like I have lost direction and may be go back to standard, may be chasing the impossible, it is what it is.

In the MCN the other week they did a big test on tyres, it is amazing the difference. They used a Yamaha MT07 tracer and a very experienced rider and loved some and not keen on others. With all the money the tyre manufacturers spend it seems strange when they get it wrong. The tyre they love is the Metzeler Roadtec 01 which had a score of 20 out of 20. Bit more expensive than my budget but my mate has them on his guzzi and he says they are the best tyres he has ever had, but we have all heard that before lol.

I know people on here have mentioned before about issues with the 021 front but what are the issues? Been ringing around for tyres prices and mentioned that I had 021 to my local guy and he said it is a known problem but did not go into detail. As I mentioned in my other post about Avon storm 3D Xm my Fzs has front end problems and 021 with strange wear.

Hi having a issue with the handling with the FZS ,the front feels odd, sorry that is not a correct term but it is hard to describe. The front feels like it is moving about and tram lines to. Feels unstable and I am rapidly loosening confidence in the bike. I have Hyperpro springs and 10 oil,R6 shock with Luke's setting. The tyres are Brigestone 021. They where on the bike when I bought it last year and where almost new. I have now done nearly 5000 miles on them and have noticed the front is wearing odd,the right side has what feels like a ridge slightly off centre, but the left side seems normal,I know the 021 have a issue with the front does any one else have any knowledge of the issue? I am going to change tyres and have seen a offer on line for Avon storm 3D XM for£153 delivered I know when it comes to tyres every one has some thing to say but the offer ends tomorrow and money is a bit tight at the min. Any advice would be appreciated.
