London Foccers
« on: 05 December 2011, 10:20:57 am »
Supposed to be going to the Emirates on Boxing day from NW Kent but theres NO SOUTHEASTERN RAIL SERVICES !!!!
I can't beleive it, maybe Christmas day but not Boxing day.

So question is do the tubes run on Boxing day, the TFL site says it wil be announced in mid December, very helpful.

Also where would be a good tube station to head for from Kent where (a) we could park for the afternoon or (b) close enough for someone to drive us and then pick us back up later so we can all get pi**ed :)

Any helpful comments gratefuly received and any comments about Arsenal will be ignored  :b

TfL and ASLEF are still in negotiations over working on boxing day as the union wants triple time and a day off in lieu. Part of me hates Bob Crow, part of me wishes we had him as our union leader :\

Its people like Bob Crow, are the reason lots of people in this country have no time for the unions. Effectively quadruple time?  :foc

My missus gets double, for both Xmas & Boxing Days, and I reckon thats about normal. The folks I work with who do have to do shifts, also get double time, end of. You do a job that covers shifts, thats part of hte deal, some years you get the rough shifts. Deal with it!

shame my sister doesn't have a drive otherwise you could have parked there, walking distance from the stadium, and on match days can't park on their road unless a resident. No help at all sorry

Good tube stations are Holloway road on the Piccadilly line and Finsbury Park on the Piccadilly and Victoria line. You could get a train into Victoria and go up from there, although it is a little walk from Finsbury Park Tube. If the other bus and coach providers are running then it might be worth doing that if the tubes are not.

Otherwise, I'd get the over land train into Charing Cross, and then get the 29 (bus of crime) to Finsbury Park.

Allow plenty of time of course.

Hope that helps and good luck!!

Sam

Dunno whereabouts in NW Kent you are, but if you can get to Gatwick or Croydon, then Southern Trains are running a skeleton Brighton-Gatwick-Victoria service along with half-hourly services between both East & West Croydon & Victoria, there's a car park next to West Croydon station.

Should TFL/RMT  remember what 'public service' means & decide to run on Boxing day, & you can get a lift to West Croydon then your best bet may be to get the East London overground from there directly to Highbury & Islington.

If the Croydon Tram service is running, then you could maybe catch that at Beckenham Junction to West Croydon.

Cheers for all your suggestions, I've got a feeling my seat will be empty, along with a good few thousand more I would think.
Snooky that would have been great but how would I drive home after more than a few pints :lol

Sam, The trains are not running boxing day thats the problem and it's not certain the tubes will be at the moment.
I know the stations around the ground and visit quite a few pubs along the Blackstock Road quite often :)

Saw it on the news, just brilliant.
Surely they have to cancel the game, how are 60,000 people going to get anywhere near by road???
Are any of the other London clubs at home on Boxing day?

Arsenal have now postponed their match to the 27th due to the threat of strike action on the tubes. So should be no trouble for Locksy now.
