Take care with your chain run, I've gone down a chain size and used a kwak front sprocket with an offset to give a bit of extra clearance from the swingarm. It gets pretty close where the nylon runner is. If it's any help I could take a few measurements from mine if you get stuck.
Edit- just saw you're looking at the later swing arm. Mine's the early model R6. 5EB I think.
-
its major fazerfunny enough that is where a lot of my inspiration has come from
-
Any pics of yours guys ?
-
mine just ongoing as still riding it atm - got a couple of vids i did
links are in my tag line thing
-
Sweet bike. To me it looks more bobber than cafe racer.
-
appears me and Celtic Dog have very different takes on the style Bobber
although a bobber is to a custom bike
what a cafe racer is to a daily ride bike
a trimmed down minimalist version of its original
i say daily ride loosly as i rode a gsx1100 chop for 5years as my daily but you know what i mean.

Yeah I think you're so right there fella. To me it still looks more of a muscle bike or street fighter than it is a cafe racer or a bobber which was probably what I was trying to get at initially. :o Either way it's a complete hooligan tool! Awesome bike.
-
a new breed
a cafe fighter
-
There's some pics on post 40 and 48 if you go to my profile. They're on photobucket so be prepared for ads and popups.
Never quite sure how to work that site.
Back to the above posts, I'd say streetfighter, it's got bars.
"Moses rode his triumph up to the crowd and said from here on thou cafe racer shalt have drops or clip-ons"
(The Bible)
-
“the roar of David’s triumph was heard throughout Jerusalem”
The Apostles were in one Accord. (bloody cagers)

I've never really understood the café racer thing. Each to his own I guess, but basically it appears to me you're just removing all the practical good bits and devaluing a classic bike. Fair enough if you've just crashed it mind! :'(
Ditch the air box and replace with air filters which are more expensive and difficult to set up and run optimally.
Remove the under-seat storage (toolbox, puncture kit, chain/lock and waterproofs gone).
Remove the fairing and any wind protection and comfort.
Fit clip on /dropped handlebars to create a less comfortable riding position.
Fit dinky indicators that no one can see.
Fit some dodgy radial oversized tyres and drop the forks to ruin the handling.
Then tell the insurance company about all the mod's and watch your premiums go up.
I s'pose on the upside you might like the look of it, even if you don't enjoy riding it so much. ;) ;) :D :D :b :b :eek :eek

Does that not need a few more bits for it to be road legal? Or are you just making a show bike?
-

you tell you insurance company about your mods - fuck that lol
-
Yep, told the insurance company about my headlights, after market exhaust, k&n filter, panniers and crash bars. Just shopped around and although fully comp, my premium is pretty low! Cheap enough to not bother risking not telling them.
-
Bretty there's nothing classic about a scabby old boxeye mate.
-
here's her after ive removed all the useful bits and start adding all the bits that will make it aweful.

Little update...
R6 rear setup has arrived. R6 front forks are on there way :D Cant wait to get cracking on this project just need a set of gold spots calipers for the front and some decent disks. Still stuggling to work out wether to do a hard seat hump or a soft one.

Some times you just got to live a little and embrace the need to take a grinder to it - not all fazers are polished classics . life is to short to worry about the practicalities of under seat storage - that's what amo boxes are for :)

I read this statement alot on Bike forums, plus it does make me reflect (on decision to modify... or NOT modify :\ ).
Suppose every person buys a Bike for different reasons, depending on what you want to get out of the ownership experience.
I usually buy with my heart (not my head) - hence am thinking about long term ownership - not about resale value in 2 or 3 years time.
The bike above is very pleasing to look at. Has been finished with a high attention to detail. The Fazer is one very flexible machine! :D
-
Plus, " café racer " seems to be a buzzword to print money at the moment.
You see many motorcycles on fleabay for sale, that has "custom café racer" in the title, along with a random (greatly inflated) asking price. :thumbdown
-
i just wish people would stop building heaps by putting a seat hoop, a flat seat, exhaust wrap and some clip ons and saying its a custom built cafe racer when very little has been done and charging loads for a bike that in my opinion is not finished
not to mention exhaust wrap has no real place in the motorcycle world, we dont even use in in our rally cars where it would be usefull
if you look up fazer streetfighter on youtube the most many do is fit dominator headlights and chop off half the seat
i admit i am only at the headlight stage and airbox removal so far but it was just to get the thing on the road untill the full build starts
and i will put so much more money into the build than the bike will ever be worth but its what i like to do and enjoy every minute of doing it
the only way to really make money from custom builds is to build for other people and let them foot the cost of parts and your time
-
" seat hoop, a flat seat, exhaust wrap and some clip ons and saying its a custom built cafe racer when very little has been done and charging loads for a bike that in my opinion is not finished "
Unfortunately the above DOES summarise 90% of those high priced " café racer " projects on fleabay. :rolleyes
Any further hints on what you plan to do with yours? Do you have a Build Thread running?
I did also come across this ZX7, which is stunning! Although the company that produced the rear subframe/seat support, cut it straight out of a solid block of Aluminium!... cant be purchased as a Kit unfortunately!...
I also liked the idea of stripping down a Honda Shadow and turning it into a simplistic Bobber. So cool (but less practical as a commuter lol).
Another factor why I went for the Fazer instead, a decent Shadow costs twice as much! :lol Ohhhhhhhh, the RUMBLE of that V-Twin! :b
-
could end up being a good little fight of the fighters here both me and brooker starting with a 2k silver fazer to build something
i have a feeling my build will take longer though as i still have to find a new house before i start
-
Slow going at the moment. All the parts are sat waiting to be assembled but I've no time to make a start on it for personal reasons I've just welcomed my second child into the world(born at home so need the carpet cleaner out first) I'm sure it will come together fairly quickly once I get going.
-
congratulations Brooker
do you want me to weld up a bracket to hold the baby seat
(http://www.designbuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/image_title_a8xrs.jpg)
-
Yep congrats to you and your missus Brooker. I came across this badly photo-shopped effort, I also think the fazer makes one hell of a scrambler.
-
Haha cheers guys. Yeah might have to lock the bikes up but I'm more afraid of the daughter going out on them she's mega keen
-

Should of sent her out onto the patio then you could easily jet wash it after.
Congratulations to you both :)
-
Right a little update all the parts are ready bike cleaned and degreased just need a few hours/days to make a good start..... Cant wait to see it come together the titanuim r6 akrapovic is gonna look sweeeeetttttt.

I think you will find that Moses also mention clubman ace bars

Little updatefront end is on the bike. bit of lathe work was required to get it done but i'm over the moon with the results and glad i'm finally getting somwhere with the project. onto the rear swingarm now then to decide what to do with the subframe looks like it will be going the whole thing. still a long road ahead but getting results now.

i like bits of that cosmetically. but too standard in the whole

Apart from the tail change, plus removed front fairing (hence aftermarket headlight added) etc, its run of the mill.
Tidy obviously, but mainly the usual unfaired mods.
Brooker - what bike are your USD Forks from - An R1 / 6? So the triple tree was also from the donor bike, that's been modified to fit the front end of the Fazer?
Are you doing all this work yourself - the machining?
-
They are used forks from a r6 13s 2009. The work is being carried out by a friend with who has a garden workshop (which i'm helping out the best i can) and learning some bits along the way. He has great contacts as MTC exhuasts(Martin) are going to make me a one of ti system to link up with the can ive gone for. But yes me and the mate are hopefully gonna do it all ourselfs to keep the cost down well aprt from the parts that is.
-
holy crap you have got moving fast on that one
- so far i have done bugger all really apart from order a r6 seat and took some measurements
cant do anything yet anyhow as got a house move to plan

That's a BIG help, when you have the workshop facilities on tap - plus the knowledge to take it to the next level. Hence what you've achieved so far here.
Unfortunately while my bike is garaged, I don't have the workshop tools, or the contacts really. :rolleyes

thanks lol - all hectic here its getting annoying as no time for the bikes
-
It is a BIG help you right but don't get me wrong i have find the money for parts/labour (not that ive paid owt yet) i still have to think of the ideas for the look of the bike etc etc. its by no way hand it to him and he will gi ve me it back
-
Bit more progress. Ingition barrel fitted even the steering lock works....

Have you seen THIS Page? Seems a "Bible" for fitting USD forks on the Fazer...

It is the bible for fitting to a fzs1000 not a 600. Thanks though thats mike on here who posted it. Also the forks are already fitted having a bastard of a job now with the swingarm conversion and the rear subframe.

Oh right, ok! Plus best of luck with that also then ^ ...
Swapping the Swingarm out for a (Supersport) wider one, the rear sprocket will then be out of alignment with the front - how is that compensated, so the chain runs smoothy?
-
As i say the front is done. The swingarm will be spot on ive the right man on the job.
-
Rear swingarm is lined up, few custom bits had to be made to make it fit. No chance of getting in the workshop now till thursday so will have to wait until then to make the shock fit correctly. Hopefully by the end of the weekend the rear end should be complete and fitted to the bike then onto the exhaust system and seat unit.
-
Went mad with the hacksaw at the weekend in prep for the rear seat unit also the r6 rear is nearly ready to go in. R6 shock is in but needs a few custom bits to make it fit correctly but i'm hoping it will be rolling by the weekend. Now just to pick the seat unit and get fabricating the new rear subframe up and attempt to get the oem airbox out(which is a cunt of a job)

Little update bike is in the workshop at the moment for a new custom set of headers to meet up with my can. Hopefully have the bike back early in the new year, before it went i fitted the new rearsets and gear linkages and they all line up ok. hopefully get the seat done and finish modding the tank so house the electrics after they are shortened up about 3 foot.
-
Sweet bike. To me it looks more bobber than cafe racer.
No Defo Cafe Racer looks neat
-
a new breed
a cafe fighter
A Cafe Fighter! No that was Billy a mate of mine many years ago, hes quietened down now, well he is 62 now the silly old fart.
But still don't tell him I said that. :eek :grumble :smash :fish :angel
-
Well Happy new year gents. My bike is still stuck with the guy making the exhaust system, i was hoping to have it back by now and the engine out etc for painting over the xmas/new year break (good plans and everything) As soon as i have her back i'll post up some updates for everyone following this.
Paul

Little update from last week.
-
FINALLY got the bike back today. Now to get started on the rearsubframe and modding the tank and electrics.... its gonna be a long year getting this thing ready for the road.
-
Liking this thread. Keep the pics coming.
-
Cheers friendboy. Yeah i'm being a bit coy about posting pictures as i have had people using my ideas from pictures i've uploaded so i'll have to be a bit more stealth about close ups etc. that said i don't mind sharing ideas etc just be nice to be kept in the loop about what idea's they are using. i don't want to upset the guy who's doing most of the engineering work.
-
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff444/brooker81/IMG-20180201-WA0014_zpsukltnrms.jpg)
Headers all finished with Akra end can on. It's now all lined up and fits sweet behind the rearsets.
-
Sorry there's been no updates in awhile 3 weeks in Jamaica have kept me busy (not working on the bike) Really need to crack on now the only thing i've made is a sweet set of custom dog bones that will look a bit more bespoke than the standard ones...
-
and that is just porn im assuming adjustable aswell
think i might just save that pic to my folder of goodies
-
Yes adjustable. I've got enough left to do another set so i can alter the height if i need too.
-
Adjustable dogbones makes so much sense. Especially if you often/occasionally have a pillion, or strap on gear for a long weekend... means handling doesn't have to be compromised! :thumbup
Any updates? :)
-
There will be some updates soon, as i get my arse in gear. Headlight to be mounted and tank/subframe to be completed it's hard getting anytime on this once the nice weather comes i'd rather be out on the other bikes oh and my lovely custom yoke should be on soon.
-
Sorry it's been awhile... Couldn't get logged on for over a month.
Anyways here is whats been done.
Rear light fitted
Custom Top yoke arrived (yet to be fitted)
Headlight arrived and moked up mounting ( looks great)
Tank modded to take seat.
Pics to follow when i get my arse in gear
-
liking your work!!
-
Any updates. Pics?
