FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 Exhaust slip on compatiblity
« on: 22 April 2016, 01:39:48 pm »
I've currently got a full Motad Venon exhausts system on the Fazer; downpipes, link pipe and can. All decent enough, but my can is scuffed a bit from a previous tarmec bike interface mishap. Been on the look out for a new can going cheap that looks a bit better. I'd also like something a spot louder too, the Venon is rather tame (even sans baffle), nice sound, but not really much louder that stock, if at all.

So, since I've already got a the Motad link pipe, what cans will fit? Do I need to be looking out for a specific FZS600 can, or can I pick up pretty much any slip on off any other similar bike, which has the same size link? Or are there other geometry issues that'll scupper that plan?

For Sale & Wanted / Clearout of FZS600 Parts
« on: 16 April 2016, 08:55:43 pm »
Had a bit of a clear out and just put these Fazer bits up on ebay.
Most of it has some damage mind, so I'm just clearing space and flogging it cheap.

There's a foxeye fairing, genuine belly pans, mirror, stock exhaust, downpipes, rear master cylinder. Let us know if you want anything, I don't mind doing a good price on here and off ebay.

FZS600 Fazer / Front Brake Caliper Seal Kits
« on: 16 August 2015, 07:00:11 pm »
Front brakes have been squealing a lot recently, so gave them a clean the other day. Can of Muc-Off brake cleaner (all local Halfords  had handy) and toothbursh and gave them a good scrub. Some oft he piston didn't want to come out until I pumped the lever a many many times. Also, I wasn't able to rotate these pistons with my fingers at all. Pistons themselves aren't too bad, just a little corrosion along the top edge. I'm also pretty sure the brakes aren't quite as strong as they once were, fairly sure I'm having to squeeze the lever a lot more than I used to. Kind of thinking some new seals would probably help matter here. Would you agree?

Anyway, still got some Hel brake lines to pop on, so figured it'd be best to do both at same time whilst the system is drained.

So, what brake seal kits should I get?
Genuine are £25 per pair of pots. Did I get that right? £100 for all seals for all eight pots across both calipers?!
https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/4181570/fzs600-fazer-5rt4-2003-070-a/front-brake-caliper

Whereas M&P do a seal kit for £9 odd, per caliper. Are these any good, or just a false economy? Why are there ebay listings for right and left caliper kits - are they different?!

Some kits (like this one) also include new bleed nipples, caps etc. Worth swapping these at same time too?

What do I buy?!

FZS600 Fazer / USB / fag lighter sockets - mounting
« on: 10 August 2015, 09:47:11 am »
Have any of you fitted a fag lighter and/or usb sockets to your Fazer's? If so, which socket and mount location did you opt for? What have you found worked best, stood up to the weather best and such like?

I've thinking of drilling a hole in the plastic infils and mounting something in them. Probably have to be the flat horizontal part though, due to lack of space behind on the vertical bits. Just a little concerned about the wet going in.

Wiring wise, I was going to run a lead direct from battery to a relay triggered by a lead spliced into side lights, so the socket is only live when lights are on. Sound reasonable? Where would you locate fuses?

My main motivation is to power my Roadhawk camera. I have it spliced directly into side lights right now, but it keeps cutting out. My suspicion is a fluctuating power supply. Camera is fine on it's own battery attached to fairing, so I don't think it's vibration. It's also fine from fag lighter socket in car. Also figured a USB socket would be handy for a phone/satnav mounting on bars too.

For Sale & Wanted / Spotted: FZS600 Foxeye Fairing Silver New
« on: 17 June 2015, 09:45:22 pm »
Nothing to do with me, but just spotted this on gumtree, which considering this forums track record of trashing Fazer's, will probably be useful to someone!

http://www.gumtree.com/p/replacement-parts/yamaha-fazer-fzs600-nose-cone-fairing-silver-grey-new-genuine/1120625211

Do bear in mind you can order one of these new from a dealer for about £180, so perhaps try and haggle them down!

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch slipping?
« on: 05 June 2015, 03:55:37 pm »
Recently I've noticed some weirdness with my Fazer on occasion. If I really push on and accelerate hard, when the bikes gets to about 6-7K revs all of a sudden it just revs like crazy and jumps up to 11K odd! I'll ease off throttle a bit, then the revs settle down and I keep accelerating.

Is this the clutch slipping under the load?
I have tweaked the clutch adjustment (both at lever and at sprocket cover), but it's still doing this.
Time for new clutch plates?

Or is it likely to be something else entirely?

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: FZS600 Fairing/Headlight Screw
« on: 23 May 2015, 09:28:40 pm »
Bah, seems I'm missing a screw from my fairing, must be still in the verge where I binned the bike. Anyway, I don't suppose any of you have a spare screw to bolt the headlights to the fairing?

For Sale & Wanted / Fzs600 Yamaha crash bars
« on: 23 May 2015, 04:45:21 pm »
Pair if genuine lower crash bars, black. Both have hit the deck and have bare metal showing. Left is a little bent, right more so, especially around bolt holes. All bolts included. Useful to anyone, before I pass them on to scrap man?

Don't want any money, just cover postage.

For Sale & Wanted / Headlight reflectors for Foxeye 600
« on: 23 May 2015, 04:40:52 pm »
Whole head light unit is pretty smashed up, but silver reflectors inside look in good shape. Useful to anyone? Don't want any money, just cover postage.

Just swapped on some Renthal 758 bars. All good, however the brake reservoir is now on a jaunty angle, leaning in towards the yoke. I was under the impression that this should be kept fairly level. So, am I likely to hit any issues, other than it being a pain to gauge fluid level?

FZS600 Fazer / Throttle cable rubber cover on handle bars
« on: 20 May 2015, 09:35:01 pm »
On the throttle cables just before they go into the throttle grip on the bars, there's a little rubber cover for the join between the metal housing and the two cables the come off from it. I've gone and shredded this on my last off. Picked up a whole throttle cable assembly off ebay cheap, but I can't see how I can swap over this rubber cover on it's own, there's just too much plastic cable guides and stuff in the way to slide it off. Am I being daft, or do I really need to swap the entire length of the throttle cables to change this rubber bit?

Following a minor bike-tarmac interface, I'm in need of some bits:-

Foxeye headlight cluster - a long shot perhaps, but the crucial part.
Right hand foxeye mirror
Right hand infill.
Rad hoses, in particular the small one that goes to right hand side of rad at top.

For a Fazer 600 '02-03.

General / Bollocks! Not again.
« on: 14 May 2015, 05:25:55 pm »

Whoops, I did it again.

Riding back from Saffron Walden to Dagenham, been pissing down the whole time, just heading out of Abridge towards Hainault, round a couple of narrow bends as you go up the hill immediately before the 40 mph section. Back end just started to go, then flipped from side to side, transferred to front, had a bit of a tank slapper on the go, then just lost it and down I went and slid off into the mud beside the road. :(

At least some friendly folk stopped to help me pick it up, clean most of the mud off it, collect the pieces and bungie things down enough to nurse it home.

TBF this fairing has probably lasted longest out of the three I've had...
However, got smashed headlight, bust mirror, bust infil, really bent fairing bracket, one of the rad hoses is leaking, nasty scratches/dents to tank, possibly bent bars and forks don't feel quite lined up any more.  Crash bar did it's job, engine looks untouched. Could be more, but it's still pissing down outside and I'm too pissed off to look at it further. Need tott up repairs and decide if it's worth repairing or just trade in.

So not looking likely I'll join you on the LOFO ride this Sunday. :(

Oh BTW, I'm fine, just a bump to hip (but had Rukka armour there) and slight ache in hand.

Spotted this the other day whilst up in the area visiting family. Figured some FOC'ers would be up for blagging some free coffee and biccies...
Not far from the Horseshoe Pass too.

For Sale & Wanted / SamcoSports radiator hoses
« on: 08 April 2015, 11:00:28 pm »
Unwanted competition prize: set of Samco Sports Radiator hoses for FZS1000, R1, R6 etc.
Won these, but they don't do a set for my FZS600. :( So rather just flog them on as a good deal for someone, as I really could do with the cash for a new rear tyre! Anyone want a cheap set for their Fazer 1000 or any other bike they've got? Let me asap, as I need to let them know what bike / colour I want. Check their site for what's available for what bikes.

FZS600 Fazer / Suspension setup questions (forks)
« on: 30 March 2015, 08:36:34 am »
I've just serviced my forks, as the seals were leaking bad and I had no record of when or if they've ever been serviced previously. Popped down to Oval Motorcycle Centre where Matt walked me through the job, so made sure I did the whole thing properly. :) Oddly, one fork had newish looking red oil in it, the other manky brown oil in it. Either way, I kept things simple to begin with, replaced it with stock 10W oil and 132mm air gap (mainly as I'm a skinny fart at only 10.5-11 stone). Left pre-load bolts on 4 notches as they were previously.

Obviously the bike rides better than before with its leaky seals, however I'm feeling a lot of bounce at the front. Not so much excessive dive on braking (through there is some dive when braking hard), but over minor bumps it does feel as though it bouncing repeatedly and oscillating somewhat.

What would you recommend as first thing to tweak and try and resolve this?

I know many suggest heavier oil, 15W etc to firm things up. Is this going to be the way to go, or how would you adjust front pre-load first? Or is this behaviour indicative of knackered springs? FWIW the bushes were in good nick, teflon coating still intact.

FZS600 Fazer / Pass switch - no work no more
« on: 25 March 2015, 11:12:53 am »
The 'pass' switch on my left hand switch gear (2003 Foxeye), I am correct in saying this is supposed to briefly flash main beam lights - right? I ask, as I'm pretty damned sure it used to, but now it's currently not doing anything particularly obvious and I'm starting to doubt myself...

Any ideas on what could be up? Any common issues? Or just time to crack open the switch gear and give it a good dousing of switch cleaner?

FZS600 Fazer / SamcoSports radiator hoses
« on: 09 March 2015, 12:38:18 pm »
Anyone know if SamcoSports do a set of hoses for the FZS 600? Canna see one listed on their website. (http://www.samcosport.com/uk/)
Or otherwise know any other kit is a close enough match (Fazer 1000, YZF, R6 etc)?

I only ask, as I have apparently won a set in a competition and now just twigged I may not even be able to use the prize. Doh!

FZS600 Fazer / Chain & sprocket kit - too many choices on ebay!
« on: 01 February 2015, 03:14:03 pm »
Just about the buy a new chain and sprocket kit, and I'm totally spoilt for choice on ebay with far too many subtle variations at different prices.
So, most of you reckon the DID X-Ring chain is a good one.

Is this a good kit and price:-
DID Gold X-Ring Chain & Sprocket Kit
What's the deal with Gold (just a colour variation?), VX, extreme, carbon sprockets, etc? Are there other sets for about ~£100 that are better?

Also, checked front sprocket, seems I still have the old nut, just 9mm deep. This the correct upgrade I should have:-
GENUINE YAMAHA FZS600 FAZER FRONT SPROCKET NUT AND WASHER KIT
Nut, still nice and tight, so no issues to worry about.

Yeah, behind that front sprocket cover it was absolutely full of shit, crud, dirt and dried lube. Yuck! Gasket totally disintegrated too. Anyone know the part number for this gasket? Also any tips for giving it all a good clean behind there?
