Title: Digital speedo
Post by: John_FJ on 02 September 2017, 09:19:27 am
Hi guys, has any one fitted an aditional digi speedo to a gen 1 fazer 1000?  My problem is i cant quite see the numbers on the speedo dial without taking my eyes of the road and trying to focus. If I wear my glasses I can see it fine but cant see the road. The joys of getting old  :rolleyes

Morning john.... :lol  yep , had the same problem here , another old git , the answer for me was vari focal  glasses nice big ones to try and fill the helmet apperture so sideways glances are not fuzzy ,works well but Is a pain wearing them on the bike , keeps me riding though  so i just do it........did try contact lenses a while back which were fantastic on the bike just the hassle getting them in and out every day......

At the moment I have painted a red line on the clock face at 30 50 70, it works but does not look that good  :'(

What about making a custom Speedo background? Something with just the major speeds (30, 50, 70 etc) in bold and nothing else. Or even look at the after market white ones if they are a bit easier to see?

As for a digital Speedo it would probably work out cheaper (and easier) to juat use a sat nav mounted to the bars. I'm not sure which one of the top of my head but there is a certain brand that let you use the full screen as a Speedometer

An even cheaper option if you have a decent mobile phone is to download 'Digihud' then mount your phone to your bars.
That's the app I use when I wanna know how fast I'm actually going 👍

I went white dials for that reason, no problems now. Got dials from these guys on ebay, you have to ask for MPH.

Not great pic but give you an idea.
And Pat's page for instructions on changing.

Thank you for the help guys, I quite like the idea of the white dials. I think I will go down this route, looks good and quite a cheap mod.  :thumbup

I bought the same white dials as Dusty but they're still sat on a shelf in my garage!  :rolleyes

I can't see the speedo too clearly either when riding, it's a crap bit of design frankly.

Just bought a satnav so intend to use that & the white dials.........

There seems to be 2 variants of speedo, 20 - 40 - 60 - 80 ect, and 10 - 20 - 30 -40, mine is the later, I supose the first one would be ok

Not as bad a design as the speedo on my piaggio X9 (Work bike) the mph markings are on the inside and kmh on the outside and is larger, I can just about see the mph markings in daylight, at night not a hope in hell of seeing what speed I’m doing, in the end I drilled through the top layer on the 30,50 and 70mph lines so I could easily see what speed I’m doing, the light shows through but is still defused so doesn’t dazzle.

I've got a Multigauge but they might be a bit too expensive if the digital speedo is the only thing you need.

THIS. ^ There's lots of these Kits on ebay. Different colour Dial faces (for the 3).
Black on white appears to offer decent clarity.

(just a random Fazer 1000 White clock dials image I found - not my Ad).
