98 fzs 600 carb needles, is this right?
« on: 29 January 2016, 02:03:06 pm »
cant seem to find a picture online soo thought id ask here...

my fzs has always been well under the claimed top speed of 145, infact itll see 120 tops head down with a bit of wind behind and 130 downhill head down and im a pretty slim guy...

the previous engine was the same so its not the engine, took the carb apart to find these needles but the main question is the yellow colar? are they supposed to be there? it does have the other washers on all of them but just slipped them off for the pic.

i had a weird issue with it bogging at full throttle hence why i had these out and dropped the clip down so the needle doesn't sit as high, it now doesn't bog at full throttle but now i have to warm it up a fair bit before i can give it the beans pulling away or it bogs.. not really great for taking it on the track as ive gotta let it warm up for 5 minutes before i even think about going onto the track.

IIRC, the FZS600 top speed is 135MPH. Mine used to see 120 very easily but very slow to gain speed beyond that. That's normal for any vehicle though.

Cant tell you about the yellow collars though. Never took the carbs apart. Someone will be along shortly who knows though.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

No this is not right, well not for a UK bike is this bike a UK model?

You should have starting at the top of the needle: -

1. 2 x 0.5 washers
2. The spring clip (set on No3 grove from the top)
3. Ring (that's the plastic looking thing in your picture)
4. 1 x 0.5 washer.

Your picture is only showing 1 0.5 washer, the ring and the clip which is in the wrong slot!

Someone's been playing and they've lost the rest or they've fitted a jet kit which UK Fazers don't need. Jet kits are for returning certain models back as it should be i.e. replacing low emission set fitted in some counties.  Fitting jet kits was something that just wouldn't go away, some owners looking for more power just couldn't understand UK models didn't need them.

What are the rest like?

I didn't realise the Fazers had adjustable needles in them as standard!
