Should be just a case of removing and replacing.

Re swinging arm and chain. If your new chain is endless, put it on the swing arm before refitting.

Looks like you made a good choice and 18mp isn't to shabby. Only one thing that I would maybe comment on and that's the AF assist being in the flash. Apart from that it looks like a good choice.

Now I need to warn you about a severe illness that inflicts most DSLR users.

In your case it will manifest itself as Canonitus. In may case it's called Nikonitus. Symptoms come in the form of cold sweats when searching the net and camera shop windows looking for your next fix. These windows and web pages will draw you in like a magnet. You leave the house early in the morning looking for that perfect location or shot, often not returning until late in the evening. You'll sit in front of your Lightroom or Photoshop for hours trawling through thousands of photos, deciding what to bin and what to keep.

Welcome to the world of DSLR's and happy shooting

 :lol

Also with non AF-S lenses if the body has no aperture coupling ring you'll also need a separate light meter to get your exposure right.

I use a Nikon D7100 as my main work horse and have always used Nikons so can't speak for other makes. IMO a DX sensor and something in the region of 24mp is fine. Word of warning your picture image will depend on the glass you put in front of the sensor. My back up bodies which are 12mp are still pretty sharp with some Nikon kit lenses fitted but stick the kit lenses in front of 24mp you can see their shortcomings. I'll add that if you are just printing out at up to A3 then 12mp and kit lens... depending on type of lens should be fine as long as you're not a pixel counter. Some kit lenses are sharper than others. With landscapes I would go for the best glass you can afford.

I've just finished upgrading all my kit glass for Pro glass and the difference is noticeable. A prime lens (fixed focal length) will mostly always give a sharper image than a zoom... even pro zoom, though pro zooms are far better than kit zooms.

As mentioned tripod, plus remote trigger come in handy as do neutral density filters. And yes, shoot in RAW and save files as TIFF if storage is not a problem. Only convert to JPEG if posting to web or storage is a problem. Tip. Most printers are optimised for output at 360dpi and not 300dpi. So before any editing convert files to 360dpi at the correct file size for printing.

With landscapes also look on web for Back Focus techniques, settings and camera set up. Useful when composing shots on and off tripod and for shooting moving wildlife.

Lightroom is good as is Photoshop, the later being a bit more expensive but you can hire both on a monthly basis if you don't want to buy licence to use outright (You don't get a hard disc anymore with Adobe software). Doing this may also give you chance to try out both software.

Re books. I often refer to "Complete Guide to Digital Photography" by Ian Farrel (ISBN 978-0-85738-548-2). It cover all aspects of digital photography that you could think of, and even though I've been using Photoshop for about 30 years I still find it a brilliant book for quick reference if I haven't use a filter or something else related in a while. Photoshop is a vast leviathan of a programme and I still can't get my head around all the things this software can do. There are also lots of tips and tutorials for editing software on the net.

How to cheat in Photoshop is also a good book but aimed more at digital illustration and manipulation.

If it's a 5pw top yoke i presume it has been drilled to take the handlebar clamps :look

And hopefully strengthened underneath where the clamps bolt on.

I'll second that emotion.

Good tools but that's not much tool kit for £70.

Also look at Halfords Pro tools. Take note... I've had more Snap-On tools brake in my hand than Halfords Pro tools. Both are free replacement. Come to think of it I've not had a Halford Pro break to date.

Its the same for everyone no matter where they live

Its even worse if you live in the south east like some of us. You end up doing a tour of the whole country.

I lived in the south east when I did it. SE London. That's way I broke the trip up to JOG over three days and the trip back from LE over two days.

Some nice work there Ade. Can't make the exhibition alas, but would love to see some more of your paintings. Did you finish the last one of the Barn Owl?

Who knows, maybe I'll pick up the brushes again once I'm settled into my new life up north, but doubt I'll be posing any major competition for you  :lol

Cheers Fella.

Yes, the barn owl got finished. It's on my website in sections 'canvas prints' and also 'original art'.

Do you mean doing it in one day/24 hrs/whatever? That doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. Distance riding to me is about enjoying good roads and taking in the scenery and places of interest along the way. I don't like being under pressure to be somewhere or cover a certain distance in a limited time. Each to their own though.

I know what you mean. It didn't appeal to me either half way through the day but it's ticked off on my wish list. It was also day four of an outstanding six day tour of the UK.

Yes I've done it in a day. Left JOG at 4am rolled into LE at 8pm.

No, don't want to do it again.

Think there maybe a write up about it on here or a link to another forum where the write up is.

Found it.

I used to play a lot in my youth and once beat a snooker player called the Silver Fox (David Taylor) in a five game match (3 games to 2) at Butlins, Bognor. I didn't have a clue who he was at the time. He had just won the snooker competition there and asked him if he wanted to play a game. I also won the disco dancing competition that week, and took the virginity of a Scottish lass called Debbie. Like a scene from That'll be the day. :rollin

What a week that was!

Cheers never done it before just checked and it was f11 10th second 1250 iso
looking at yours at 1/2 second showing no transition my movement must be my wobble
I did photoshop to get the building out of the blackness of the sky and the image is cropped down about as much as the nebula one

Here's the full low down from the EXIF data: R-L
Shot 1: F/9, 1/1400sec, ISO-800, -0.7 step.
Shot 2: F/8, 1/400sec, ISO-2000, -0.7 step.
Shot 3: F/8, 1/400sec, ISO-3200, 0 step.
Shot 4: F/8, 1/3200sec, ISO-3200.
Shot 5: Same as 4.
Shot 6: Same as 4.
Shot 7: F/8, 1/20sec ISO-5000.
Shot 8: F/8, 1/15sec, ISO-5000.
Shot 9: F/8, 1/4sec, ISO-5000.
Shot 10: F/8, 1/2sec, ISO-6400.
Shot 11: F/8, 1sec, ISO-6400.

All the shots had some kind of adjustment in Adobe Camera RAW for balancing in the combined image and then finer tweeking in Photoshop. These are just 11 of the 100+ images shot. Shooting was by the seat of the pants and checking in camera before making adjustments and re-shooting. Digital cameras make it a lot easier than the old days of film. You couldn't open up the back to check if your photo was going to come out.

For Sale & Wanted / Camera Gear for Sale

Camera Gear for sale. Before it goes on Ebay or Gum Tree.

Camera Gear For Sale Nikon FE. Silver and black body. SRN 4442068 with MD 11 motor drive.
Tested and working. New LR44 batteries fitted in body.
Body is in very good condition. There are a few marks showing signs of ware on the film back (black painted part) but nothing major. Mirror sponge is there but could do with replacing if you wished. £50 (£65 with MD 11)

MD11 Motor Drive shows signs of ware on the black paint and the vinyl on the grip has peeled away slightly. A tiny bit of contact adhesive would fix this. £15

Nikon FE. Silver and black body. SRN 4003233
Tested and working. New LR44 batteries fitted in body.
Body is in very good condition. There are a few marks showing signs of ware on the film back (black painted part) but nothing major. Mirror sponge is there but could do with replacing if you wished. Missing flash sync plug cover. The chrome/nickel coating is slightly rough on the bevel below the film speed dail. A few light scratches on the body base. £45

Nikon FE. Black body. SRN 3373207
For spares or repair. No batteries fitted in body.Body shows signs of ware. Slight dent in front of flash hot shoe where passed sticker is. Missing flash sync plug cover. This body was my main workhorse and worked brilliantly until I lent it to someone and it came back with damaged film rewinder. (Lesson learned... never lend your cameras out). It's missing the a small spring washer that holds the silver winder lever in the away position so this flops about. The small film back release lever is not in the right position though the back can still be opened by releasing the lever and lifting the rewind knob. Film transport glitchy. When you apply pressure to transport film it sort of jams. When you release the pressure and then wind again it releases and the film can be wound on. The film transport works with okay with MD11 motor drive . £10

Nikon Nikkor 50mm F1.8 AI with lens hood and caps.

Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows light signs of ware. Focus ring is smooth and aperture is snappy. Fitted with Astron 1A 52mm filter, 52-55mm filter step up ring and 55mm steel lens hood. Comes with filters. See below. This is a very, very sharp lens and I'll be sad to see this go. It's sharper than the Nikkor F1.4. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance.
Filters55mm Hunter. Graduated purple, 6pt star factor, Portrait soft focus, Portrait soft spot, Orange, Warm tone UV, Hoya 80A. £50

Nikon*ED IF 300mm F4.5 SRN 228189 AI-S with lens lens caps (not Nikon branded).

Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Focus ring is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. The lens is fitted with a Canon tripod mount.
£100

Kiron 70-210 F4 Macro Kino Precision with zoom lock. SRN 25929096 with original lens caps.
Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Focus ring and zoom is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. This is an excellent lens. Very, very sharp and very underated. Read reviews about this lens. The lens hood has been broken but a very good, effective repair has been made. There is also a very small dent on the lens barrel that I noticed when taking the photos of it (shown). £20

Tamron SP Mirror 500mm F8 Tele Macro BBAR MC 55BB Fitted with Nikon fit Adaptall 2 AI-S.
Fitted Hoya 82mm skylight 1B filter. Custom made carbon fibre lens cap the fits the front of the lens hood and Nikon rear cap. Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of minimal ware (lens has hardly been used). Focus ring is smooth. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance... and I'm only saying this to cover my ass. This lens is clean IMO.
£100

Tamron 35-70mm CF Macro BBAR MC fitted with Nikon fit Adaptal AI-S
Now I need to say something about this lens because it's part of the package. Read on. Best used as a paper weight if you still use paper in your office. Don't point at the light and take photos. This lens has more glare than a father watching his daughter going out on her first date with a the boy that has “HATE” tattood on his forehead. Fitted with Hoya 58 Skylight 1B filter. Filter has a scratch but I don't care as it doesn't fit any other lens I own. Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Why anyone would want to use it heaven knows. Focus ring and zoom is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. Performance is said tongue in cheek. I reckon this is the worst lens I've ever used on a camera it has the worst zoom focus mechanism that I've ever used. I'm chucking this in for FREE as I wouldn't save me any money on postage if I left it out the box... I don't want it. However, it fills a space in the flight case and looks good until you take it out and realise what you have in your hand.
FREE
