How does my engine sound?
« on: 22 February 2016, 05:29:05 pm »
The video makes it sound horrific, but it's really quite quiet. There's just a couple ticking noises that aren't very consistent that I can't put my finger on, does this sound healthy to you? Just synced carbs and adjusted cam chain tensioner, (I adjusted it by first taking it apart and cleaning/lubing it,  then put it in, wound in by fingers until felt resistance, then backed out a full turn, started engine, wound in with fingers until tight, and backed out 1/6th turn, and tightened.)

Hi, hard to tell from the video. I fitted a manual adjuster to mine and found it fiddly to set up.
Knowing what I know now I wouldn't have bothered.
Just make sure you have it right obviously...

Can only assume it is. Obviously chains are better looser than tighter. But there's a ticking noise that doesn't seem to be related to anything... Very odd, probably just being over cautious

Did you pull clutch lever while it's running could be a bit of clutch chatter
Just a thought

Could even be a rattly exup valve.

Get someone to put their hand (leather gloved) lightly over the end of the exhaust pipe and pull in the clutch, this will quiten it enough to  allow you hear other sounds better.

Full akro so no exup. Clutch in does quiet gearbox chatter a fair amount... Maybe I'll check my valve clearances soon...
