It's looking dry, and if it stays dry I'm in.  I don't mind the cold.  Just don't want to get the bike wet this time of year because it won't dry in the garage.

I should be home from hockey at 1115 tomorrow so I can be on the bike for 1130

Robbo, do you want to head over to Sittingbourne/Iwade to meet myself and Dazza or meet in Whitstable?

The toy run leaves at 1.30pm

Are we doing fish and chips in Whitstable before?

You clearly succumbed to peer pressure from Coffee, we can blame him!  He started the off topic bit!  :b

I was only getting in about off topic before Mr Sharp did, he does like his rules  :lol

I finally had some time to myself and seeing as it was dry and not cold out I decided to go for a little bimble to a nice micropub that I know.  The Admiral's Arms at Queenborough.  Just happened to see the on the way home  :)

This is WAY above my skill level! Trust me!  :\

42
How many hours labour to do you reckon?  5 hours?

43
That's what I suggested to them.  And they agreed that it sounds about right, but still silly money to repair at a garage compared to the cost of the bike so I said not to bother even investigating because I can't pay £800 to fix.

Bike runs lovely, especially having just re-balanced the carbs so I'm going to keep going as is and be aware of oil loss.

44
Mine is kind of in a similar situation.  It's running fine, but I'm loosing oil, no blue smoke, no puddles on the floor.  I took it to a trusted bike shop the other day and they said that it wouldn't be in my financial interest to repair whatever seal is causing the issue.  They also quoted about £800 as a fair representation of what I'm likely looking at cost wise.  They said the bike is running fine and a litre of oil per 1000 miles is acceptable on older bikes.

16 years ago I once ran over a badger...............................on my push bike.

I was getting married on the Saturday and on the Thursday before, my mate had asked if I fancied going out around Wye on our mountain bikes, a usual thing for us.  The wife was concerned because she knew we messed about on these rides and there was a chance of coming off and getting injured, ok on a normal day, not good 2 before our wedding.

So, we went out that evening and behaved ourselves.  It was dusk and we were on the road heading back towards the car, we were doing about 20 mph.  I was about 300 yards from the car, I could see it when all of a sudden, with no warning a badger darted out of the hedgerow right in front of me.  There wasn't any time to hit the brakes and I piled square into his/her midriff.  The badger couldn't have timed his/her trip across the road any worse.

I went over the handle bars and luckily fell to the grass on the left rather than the road (which would have resulted in potential injuries that the wife wouldn't have been happy about).

I picked myself up to the sounds of my mate wetting himself with laughter (nice to have a mate who cares, eah?  ha ha) and we went to look at the badger.  It too picked itself up, we kept our distance while it shuffled back towards the woods.

Luckily the only damage to me was a big bruise up the inside of my leg.  The bike didn't do so well.  My front forks were bent, saddle all cut up, handle bars off to a random angle and one of the pedals somewhat squashed.

We commented at the time how terrible it could have been if the same thing had happened on a motorbike.

True story!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Centre Stand Refurb

That looks pukka, sadly, I had to get it all done and dusted by the end of the weekend (ready to give to the garage for fitting this week) so I wasn't able to do the powder coating thing.  Bit gutted, but I'll remember that for next time.

Just out of interest, what state did you give it to them before the work?  Did they strip it back, too?

Cheers for the advice, Hammerrite has worked a trick.  :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Centre Stand Refurb
« on: 28 September 2019, 01:56:47 pm »
Hi All,

I've had a replacement centre stand on my work bench for over a year now and today I finally went out, bought a spinney wire brush thing for my drill and got to it.  I now have a mostly shiny centre stand.

So, what do I do now?  I've never done anything like this before.  My questions are:

There are a couple of spots of surface rust, where I can't get to them.  Shall I  just cure rust those?

What primer should I use?  I'm guessing a rattle can, but what metal is the stand and do I need a certain type?

Thoughts on top coat?  Just black metal paint?

I'm guessing I don't want to spray too much paint around the mounting holes, or it won't swing up and down when on, correct?  So do I  just do a lite coat there?

The rubber bung thing that sits against the exhaust, leave in place and mask as best as possible or cut off and replace?

Sorry, prob  some silly  and over thought questions, I know, but, cheers as always.

Harry
