Oil Light
« on: 03 January 2013, 05:48:27 pm »
About 60 miles into a 90 mile trip today the oil light on my 02 FZS600 came on. I stopped and checked the oil level after letting engine cool and if anything there is too much oil in the sump. It's so far above the upper level mark you can't see where it ends. Could the expansion of the oil when hot cause oil light to come on? When I set off again oil light came on again after about 10 miles and I rode with it on for the last 20 miles.Cheers

I keep reading it's an oil level light, not a pressure light.

Yamaha mechanic told me it was a level, my light came on under acceleration like in the other recent post from someone, after an oil change but he only needed to top it up with the official unit of a baw hair.not exactly answering the question but just saying i also think it's a level.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

Is it safe to ride is the crunch question?? I'm gonna try and get a little oil out and get the level down to the upper-level marker anyway. I've read these Fazer oil lights can be temperamental.

I've read a few places that they can gunk up and be a bit moody. I don't even know where the sensor's situated to be honest?
If it's just a level light and you know the level's okay by looking at the window then i can't see it hurting anything.
It's not ideal though, it's just one of those niggly things that you'd prefer to work correctly rather than not!

Definitely a level light and not a pressure light. I used to test mine by turning on the ignition when doing an oil change to make sure it was working.

Mine started coming on under hard acceleration but it stopped when I changed the oil. Not a peep since :)

The light has come on before during a longish trip a few months ago. Oil has been changed since then - semi synth. Ive only been doing  short runs lately - up to 30 miles with no problems. Yeah, it is an annoying niggle.
