Title: Difficult to select neutral.
Post by: arch33angel on 04 November 2014, 02:43:22 pm
Hi, today I had problems getting the bike into neutral. 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 1st a few times before it would hit and stay in neutral. Any  ideas? Thanks.

I had this, I found my clutch  wasn't wound out far enough. I adjusted the lever, and it was fine. If you're lucky, it'll be that quick and easy a fix!

You need to adjust it properly, bottom end first, then tweak the lever end afterwards.
It that doesn't solve it then it's a gear selector problem, come back and let us know how you get on then the big boys will explain exactly what's wrong.

A very slack chain can cause that too

Or a slack foot

Make sure the chain is at the correct tension.

pull back the rubber covers on the rose joint on the selector rods between the pedal and the gear shaft, clean and re-grease.

Remove the front sprocket cover, thoroughly de-mank the accumulated shite and crud inside then when clean re-grease the clutch mechanism (DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO PULL THE CLUTCH PUSH ROD ALL THE WAY OUT!)

Replace front sprocket cover, and rest the push mechanism under the rubber bung.

Then any fine tuning can be done at the lever end.

If the problem persists you have either done something wrong or its a problem further in the engine.....

Hi, yes it was the adjuster at the lever was not wound out far enough. A couple of turns of the screw outwards seems to have done the job. Thanks for the help guys.
