Wish I could get a Halfords trade card. Their tool range is more than acceptable, with a lifetime guarantee, and good savings can be had with the card. Mind you, I expect the Snap On van knows it’s own way to your house .
The last Snap On van I was in was in 2001 in Key West Florida, when I bought a T handled ratchet screwdriver, from America's southernmost Snap On man . Still going strong. .
All my old imperial stuff went to the tip, just taking up room in the tool boxes and never likely to be used by me again. Interestingly, an old work pal donated his to one of those railway restoration places and they were well received. I wish Id done something similar now
I wandered around an autojumble on Sunday and some of the tools they were trying to sell - Jeez.A lot were broken or missing parts and they still wanted stupid money for them.An awful lot of old codgers looking at them though.I think that when my time comes - the younger generation won't know what a tool is or what to do with it
Mechanics will become parts changers rather than fault finding and rectifying.
I read the Merc battery article as well. It really is nuts isn’t it. I watched a programme a good six months ago, how JCB have gone such a long way with hydrogen engines, apparently only really suited to larger vehicles, heavy plant, trucks, buses etc. If I remember correctly the bottom half of their current diesel engines remained the same, and diesel mechanics would be able to do a conversion course, to work on/maintain the hydrogen engines. Haven’t heard much since.
The drinking the by product stunt reminded me of a guy called Trevor Jackson, who bought the right to the Austin Motor Co logo. His company is Austin Electric. He’s developed the aluminium/air battery a stage further and came up with a non toxic electrolyte, that he would drink in demos to would be investors. His batteries are non rechargeable and are changed and recycled. He regards them as fuel cells rather than batteries, but reckons one of his cells of equivalent weight to the battery in a Tesla S, which apparently has a range of 370 miles, would carry the Tesla 2700 miles. There must be a glaring negative to this idea as it’s certainly not making any headlines.
Yep. Recommission nuclear power stations, get fracking and invest in North Sea oil. Cancel the green tax……..sorted
