Fitted a K and N one and its got a projection to allow you to use a socket to tighten it - agree with Darrsi, be careful on the tightness of this....its not got much feel either in my opinion, i ended up just using my hands to tighten it up and was very careful with the torque wrench...
I have my downpipes off so cannot help on the logistics with them on...
went in garage
looked at her with desire and told her i know your`e a dirty foccer ?

Well not really today, but yesterday i cleaned up the wheels and rear sprocket, just wish I took pics of how dirty it was before now as that would of shown how much gunk/crud I removed :(
Does that chain ever see oil or grease? :eekNah, no point if you've got to take it all off when your cleaning the bike :rolleyes
Shouted at her, cursed her, kicked her back wheel. And all because I cant get the rear disc mounting bolts off so I can change the disc.Have you tried tightening them a wee bit to break the seal? Just a wee touch, then you should be able to release them, soak them with some loosening oil beforehand too.
Took it to Donnington and went round and round and round and round several times!
What an incredible track, definitely do that one again!Took it to Donnington and went round and round and round and round several times!
How she go ? You have a good day ?
Never done a track day - i live near croft circuit so hopefully one day when i get the bike back on the road i will get over there....Nothing special, as you say just knowing the bike is safe and either 1 piece leather suit or 2 piece that zips all the way round!
Are there any special considerations, aside from making sure the bike works and you are i exepct in full leathers?

It's quite amazing the amount of people that turn up with track only bikes these days!

Very good Nebuchernezzer I need some heated grips myself.
When you decide to get the fairing on?
Just woke up, read this post at 5am, and am now £30 lighter 10 minutes later. :lol
They need replacing anyway, i couldn't be without heated grips, i use them for most part of the year.

Hey everyone, new member, new rider, and first time Fazer FZS600 (52 reg) owner as of about a week ago in London UK. Loving it so far!
I did all of my training and tests on a Fazer and loved it so much I decided it would be my first bike.
It's generally in mint condition, but a friend following me today mentioned that only half of the tail light was illuminating, so I went digging and found that one of the bulb holders was not seated and the bulb had smashed. I also managed to pop a fuse while playing around with that, so today I fixed that up. Nothing special but all important. :)
Otherwise I spent some time getting familiar with the various reservoir locations and fluid levels for my regular checks.
ridden for years through allsorts weather even on my dirt bike trai riding through all weathers and never used them ?
maybe i`ll try them now i`m "getting on a bit" :lol :lol :lol

Left hand drill bit is you man, just don't drill it in to far :thumbup
I bought one of those radiator covers from the same seller on eBay…what a NIGHTMARE..!!! Mine wasn't even close to fitting & in the end had to return it for a refund. How they can sell these as 'suitable for xxx bike' is beyond me…buyer beware
Finished shaving off the ignition lock mount. Looks great but arse of a job without proper tools. (grinders out of commission)
Looking good, will you not need them angled slightly rather than flat? Thanks
Chris
Yeah, sometimes you have to try it out on the road to see if it works or not. I found that when setting up my renthal bars. Thought I'd got the button positions/indicators spot on then took it for a run and had to adjust it all a bit.
I'd be worries with them that flat the if it rained the clocks would end up as bird baths. :lol

Most important for me was to remove the ignition barrel so I could get them close to the yoke, my OCD wouldn't have allowed me to have them any other way.... Anyway least I have an accurate template for MK2, just drill the yoke mount holes slightly further back and I'll have room to tilt them up a few degree
Modified sprocket cover, gears are now one up five down. :DHow do you do that then ----- do you have to put the engine in upside down.

No crash , only a matrimonial knife and hammer attack.
Have a look at the pics in my introduction.
1, Covered the swing arm with carbon fiber. Took only a few minutes not counting the cleaning before :)Nice job there Amy but as you say "mechanic" doesn't care, so it's all down to you to maintain it to your standards :)
2, Looking to close detected quite a few screws and washers which need to be replaced.
3, Realized that even she’s getting maintained regularly, my mechanic doesn’t seem to care about the little things :)
4, Noticed that the main stand needs to be painted asap!!!
5, Scheduled a proper shower for her tomorrow realising how dirty she’s got during our little trip through the hills yesterday
Before:

you're soooo right... Will be a long night again spending hours ordering tiny little things for her that no one will see without glasses :D Hope we'll have a few more weeks to make her dirty thoughWell worth spending time on the little things even if it's only you that knows they're done :)
Rode 130 miles round trip to RAF Coningsby and saw thisGood run then fazersharp?
Well I just went to work on mine this morning at 6.15. Nothing exciting except that on the way home some fighter pilot on a Kwacker 600 Zx6 tried to embarrass the old girl but she made him look a little silly because he lacked the required gonads to use his extra bhp lol. Love those weekend warriors bless em :lol
Mark, I don't know what to say :eek This is just epic!!! Awesome style, nice touches like the sissy bar. Good jobThanks Amy. Still a few bits to do but she is getting there

Bit of a polish after a wet day...
Wait till you hear the improved induction roar :)
Started the Fazer up today for the first time since about October last year after a failed attempt last week. It was an inconvenience for it to say the least but after a couple minutes it was running sweet as ever.
Has anyone had any experience with these downpipes? Tempted to get a set to go with the end can I put on last year, will they improve anything other than looks....acceleration, sound etc...?

Finished off fitting the new fairing and put the graphics on.:useless
A good mate made the graphics for me, not completely identical to original but as I am restoring the old girl, only get her back to clean original-ish condition they look great.
Also put some black plastic caps on the mirror stalk nuts just to tidy the inside up.
Very pleased.

New tyres today Michelin Road Pilot 3, they look and feel great so far. Will be taking it easy 50 miles, although the tyres guy told me they need only 5 miles scrubing:

Actually got the old girl out on the road today, thoroughly enjoyed a good, if chilly towards the end, 60 mile run to actually enjoy the fruits of my hard work.
Loved it!
First picture is her when I bought her, second one as she looks today.
Still got things to do, mainly cosmetic and a service.
Cheers Doggy

Yep the old cross ply TT100 were the tyres of the day back in the late 70s early 80s. :)
Obviously Tommy you are of similar vintage to me :lol
Just checked out front sprocket & nut, washer etc. Bike done 11,000 from new so I reckon its on its Original chain & sprockets. A bit lumpy so am replacing & doing a decent service at the same time. Oil, filter, plugs etc.
Put some big bikes in their place, nicely done!!
Cleaned and oiled K&N air filter.
Cleaned up front pads, pad pins, pad spring plates, etc.
Oiled clutch cable.
Gave the bike a wash. 8)
This weekend was mostly spent getting my knee down ;)

Or not with them chicken strips.
Picked the bike up from my parents on way to see the misis for dinner and I kept hearing a weird banging when I went over bumps, luckily I was 5mins from home so moaning to myself and thinking it sounded expensive I was working out how much I could afford to spare this month .. (£4.67 and half a pack of chewy)
I was very relieved to see it was just my hugger. The 2 bolts on the chain side were missing ..
I cleaned my chain last weekend so guessed maybe the chain lube helped the bolts vibrate out? They war definitely there before I set of cos I always give bike a little once over before I go out.
Put some new bolts in with a touch of loctite should solve that problem.
Not very exciting ... just thought I would share. Lol

HI Sorry i just quoted from another post, afraid i cannot help you. Me and the computer are from a totally different era's!!! Sorry fella!!
Looks good. Mini projectors with halos? No mods on the headlight as yet, apart from the double light mod, flushed coolant and changed oil and filter, cleaned the k&n air filter,

Does the new chain and sprockets have the same amount of teeth as the old ones?Yes mate they are, as I didn't want to change the setup from original.
Sounds like your running the rear to low. Try increasing the rear to 12mm static sag or about 39 -39mm laden static sag
If it's the standard shock, wind it up fullWound up to the max!
Today:
Exhaust off to change oil filter.
Oil and filter change
Clutch plates replaced
Clutch adjustment
Replaced left-hand switchgear
Checked tyre pressures.
Adjusted chain
Tightened left footpeg that had come lose.
We have to remove the exhaust to change the oil filter?Nope, but it just makes it easier if you can remove them :)
What is this rear wheel hugger? Does it have any practical applications or just for the looks? (Mine does not have it)
One thing I will say, while reading through this forum before changing the plugs, I remember a few folk talking about grazed knuckles, missing skin, etc. I sniggered at those comments at the time.:rollin :rollin :rollin
I aint sniggering no more. For some reason, and I don't remember when this happened, I lost skin off my right knuckles, cut half way down my middle finger (the most important finger on my hand if I'm honest) and bruised a rib.
I shall laugh no more at others comments.
Installed new clutch plates, but now gear lever is solid and wont move :'(Search on the forum as recently guys have put the plates in wrong, don't know the exact thread but it'd be worth reading before you do anything else.
Any ideas please?

It also mentions about using heavier springs being a problem as being too heavy to use the clutch.

So the old girl passed with no advisiors on monday and ive had a few bits and bobs needing too go on rim tape , heat wrap , irodium plugs and a pipercross filter ! Looks and rides much better now. Ive still got a alloy radiator too go on but if i find time this weekend it will be fitted :D
Yea you could say haha i couldnt stand it with the fairing on , personally the bike feels alot better without it .. except over 80 mph 😂

Finally got my H4 HID working so now have some decent lights upfront, won't really get benefit till later in the year but maybe some later night runs soon to try them and my new rear shock and front spring set up. :)

Sweet Jesus that's bright! Are you running 2 H4 HIDs or is it a custom set up? Mine has the cyclops look.
Put the old girl through her MOT. Passed with no advisories despite an additional once over from the bike copper parked next to her :)
Now it's lighter in the evenings, the list of summer jobs begins. Brake rebuild, carb clean, headers need re-painting...

nearly finished. Think it's a motad system. I used to make stainless exhausts years back and where possible, stuck the seam of the tube inside the bends where it was least likely to be seen. Still, things are usually made to a price these days.
Went to adjust the chain today and managed to shear the bolt holding the torque arm to the swing arm.Sorted! Bit of penetrating fluid, then tried drifting it but no luck. Ended up winding the nut in to draw the threaded section of the bolt out.
Every time I adjust the chain I'm very careful to slacken off the torque arm nuts so the strain doesn't build up over time and crack the lug on the swing arm.
What I didn't do is try to rotate the bolt in the hole, and so over time it seized in place. Today I tried to move the actual bolt and the head just snapped off.
So the bike's off the road now until I can replace the bolt either by drilling it out or Plus-Gassing it and drifting it out. I'll probably go for the latter.
Pic looks fine to me, not sideways or anything else weird
Changed the cheap aftermarket "Bike-It" mini indicators (10watt bulbs) back to OEM standard ones after mate following said he couldnt see them working in bright sunlight and the stalks on rear ones hardly cleared number plate. Didnt want to give any cagers the excuse of saying "You didnt signal!
The alternative would have been to go with led lights but couldnt be bothered to fit resistors-i am getting lazy as well as old! :lol

Gonna cost me more than that now anyway, the one i bought totally does the job but has a brand new outer diameter of 16mm, which is less than the OEM one.
Saying that, half my OEM one looked chewed to bits anyway so it doesn't really matter, but i just fancied it a tad bigger if possible.
I couldn't find the damn thing at all on the AJ Sutton site, but after a bit of research it turns out that the very large majority of gear levers use the same standard fitting measurements of 8mm inner diameter and 40mm length, so i ordered this one which i'll get in the next couple of days.

Was a hard slog but i renewed and refitted a gear lever rubber. :smash

Yes I looked into it a couple of years ago as mine is chewed up and came to the conclusion that most are a standard fit, but that ebay one I think is round but I think I am right in saying that the oem one is oval.
I wil let you pay for the ebay one and then await your in depth report with pictures and fitting instructions

You won't notice the difference whether it's round or oval, but i did notice the slightly smaller diameter on my toe.
I'm almost certain the 20mm one will be better, for me anyway.
Just finished fitting and testing my new leavers, they are a bit shorter than I thought they were going to be but they work so much better than the original OEM ones.

Turned my bike into a bit of art.
Well the Norton has improved with age :lolCheeky Foccer :lol
I would start a new post but I cant remember how to start one, so as Its to do with my Fazer I will use this one, hope its not seen as a hi jack.
If some one would email me or message me and remind me where to go to start a new post I would be grateful.
Well my Fazer: I have been slowly gather up bits for a winter service, I did a massive one last year, oil and filter, air filter, drained, refilled and bled brake fluid back and front.
drained flushed cooling system, refilled with red 5 year antifreeze, new plugs, new fuel filter.
This year I am just doing oil and filter as I have only done about 4K this year, so other stuff is still OK.
My winter project is the suspension, I have the Nitron rear shocker (Not just the Nitron that's a shocker, so was the price) I am going to purchase linear front springs, I have been looking at Ohlins on various website for about £100, but none of the websites seen to give an option to choose a spring to suit my body weight, I was under the impression that was the idea to choose a spring that matches your weight in full riding gear.
I have been chatting with some smart guys on here and I am going down the emulator route, as they seem to be a positive customisation.
I have access to pillar drills to open up the orifices/ports in the damper rods and drill a couple of new 8 or 9mm holes to overcome the effect of the oil damping by the damper rods.
Anyone have any ideas about where to purchase emulators in this country? As the seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo.
I am thinking about taking off the rear hugger, as the Nitron is such a nice looking bit of kit it seems a shame to hide some of it with a hugger, I don't ride in the rain if I can help it, so having the Nitron exposed a bit more should no be an issue.
Any thoughts or advice on where to buy the springs and emulators would be much appreciated. :kiss
Not today but yesterday I finally fitted the Hel braided brake pipes I got while at Motorcycle Live on Wednesday. OMG! They are FOCKING AWESOME! All and any sponginess has completely gone. Went with the standard 3 front lines and it also came with the rear line, all for just £75.

Yes good upgrade. I've fitted some Venhill braided front lines today, I got them off a small independent ebay shop and only paid £45. It's solved the dreaded slow speed pulsing I was starting to experience lately :)

I did look at cheaper makes on evilbay but went with Hel as I got them direct from the stall and just had the guarantee that I was getting the correct parts as I'm no mechanic and wouldn't really know if I was ordering the correct stuff.
Next job on the list is (when I can afford to) upgrade the crappy box eye headlights to those projector ones.

Fitted new sat nav ahead of the dragon rally in February, stripped rear brake ready for some shiny new pads, seals and hoses.
FYI 15T front 48T rear is standard for all 98 to 03 model FZS600s
i got the new upgraded nut and retaining washer on ebay and it was only a couple of day delivery
Finally got round to doing the twin headlight mod using the write up on here, it looks a lot better now its not a cyclops (even if one is blue and one is yellow) . Not anticipating any MOT problems but I've put a fuse in so that I can disconnect for a re-test if needs be.
Also, having experimented with the BT21s down at 32/36 psi for a few weeks, iv gone back up to 36/40. Feels immediately better, it's like a different bike!
New mirrors for the next job, I'm sick of looking at my elbows. Also need chain and sprockets soon but trying to put that off for another few months...
Cheers for those links, I've saved them for when the time comes. This is the one I'd been looking at: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400676831619. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400676831619.)
The chain has stretched past the limit they quote in the manual but still doesn't pull off the sprocket teeth very much at all, so I'm hoping to keep it going a bit longer. Need to keep an eye on the front sprocket wear as well though.
Would be a nice job for spring / summer when it's warmer /lighter , and I can take the opportunity to regrease swingarm bearings at the same time

repainted front forks with new seals fitted new pads all round
new wheels fitted with new bearings fresh rubber
just a carb balance to do and all sorted

always change sprockets as a pair
Had another great track day at Bedford Autodrome. Changed the front sprocket to 13 tooth for greater punch out of the corners. Videos being uploaded to YouTube tonight if anyones interested. Still revs into the red-line, fastest top speed 134 on the back straight not bad for 86,000+ miles. Added a few pics from the day.amazingly good

I heard that the front sprocket wears out much quicker than the back as it only about a third the size therefore rotates about 3 times to every one of the rear leading to hooked teeth much quicker than the rear,
It was recommended to me that the front sprocket be changed about 12-15K and that helps the chain and rear sprocket last to probably twice as long possibly up to 30 -35K.
Make sense? Whatcha fink?
Chain and both sprockets £120, front sprocket about 18-20 Quid.
Quick modify to my post thinking about it.
If the front sprocket wears and hooks much muck quicker than the rear the worn front will damage the chain much quicker ans as the chain is the most expensive part of the drive train I guess it makes sence to change the front sprocket sooner than later.
Can't open that link.
Chain wrench is the most effective way of removing an old oil filter, nothing needs to be moved out of the way at all.
Smear oil on the rubber seal and you can just nip up the new one, do not overtighten, simply no need.
I had an issue with a Hi-Flo filter so not a personal fan, next time just get a K&N and your bike will show it's gratitude.
I have only done the cheap led spot lights mod , Glad I did its much improved ..
that a 400 ??yes you are right.
ready for the new year's day
is it true that the headlight has both high and low beam on each side and is a strait swap into the 600 ?It indeed it does and are as rare as hens teeth in the secondhand market.
after buying her yesterday i spent this morning removing damaged fairing and modifying the bent fairing bracket to only hold speedo
then added dominator headlights
got to pick up some windicators tommorow and wait for my koso style speedo and some aluminium plate before i perminantly mount a speedo on the trees
-have to adjust the clutch so its in a better posistion as previous owner had it activating right against the bars (really annoying)
You need to finish painting that Fazer REDand get out more :lolMe I love primer :finger :nana
Put mine on a sorn cos its fucked from over use :lol
Frustrating morning today, but went to see my old mate (Wildplum) this afternoon and we set up the Rider Sag on my baby after the suspension upgrade I did over winter.
Rear Rider Sag = 37 mm fully togged ready to ride.
Front Rider Sag = 41 mm fully togged ready to ride.
Both fall within the recommended measurements
Recommended (Ohlins & Nitron):
Rear Rider Sag for a Road Bike between 30-40 mm. (25-30 mm Race bike)
Front Rider Sag for a Road Bike between 35-50 mm. (25-35 mm Race Bike)
Who knows my baby may have to go up for sale soon as my arthritis in my wrists is not getting any easier :'( The hospital consultant had told me that the only option to stop the pain is bone fusion in my wrists, but, that would stop me riding, as throttle action would be gone for a shite :uhuh
Thumb throttle of a quad bike would be a pretty easy mod to do and would give you a new lease of life on the bike look into it and even try one before you get the opp that way you will no if it's going to be good for you I no I had doubts about it but after riding quads it's so similar to a throttle you get used to it easy enough
Fitted a Scottoiler.
Was on a roll after doing the same job on my mate's brand spankers Triumph Tiger 800 XCX this morning, (nice looking bike BTW) so figured I might as well do mine, I keep putting it off. Very straightforward job, the only issue being that the bike I took the Scottoiler off, my old TDM 850, needed much shorter tubing lengths than the Fazer. As I'm too tight to buy new vacuum and oil tubing from Scottoiler, (and too impatient to wait for it to arrive) I spliced some pieces from the spares box together to make longer lengths; all nice and vacuum / oil tight and the joins neatly hidden where they can't be seen.
Now nicely dripping oil onto the chain at the prescribed 1 -2 drops per minute. Sorted.
Nearly finished my front end :)
Anyone know of any cheap ish hand guards that will fit in with the look?

Just refitted mine today too. Great product, the only downside is the front sprocket cover gets absolutely bogging with shit after a while.
Re filled my Tutoro auto chain oiler with new oil. Checked all vacuum hoses/wiring and yup........still don't have any 'cos it doesn't need all that extra buggering around :pokefun
Also only drips oil when i'm moving :guitar
Yeah but doesn't necessarily drip oil the whole time you're moving.... (In my experience - I had one once on an Apr*l*a. A right naus to set up and not always willing to work) :pokefun :lol

Took the old girl out for a test ride after fitting thundercat forks, yokes and bars ready for a track day at brands hatch on 6th of March. just basic setup but she feels so much better and is wishing me to tip her in to the corners only wish it is warmer and dryer. A bit of fine adjustment and she's ready for ragging around brands.
finally got round to stickerbombing the rear center panel to cover the hole untill i can do it properly or replace
and given the seat a leather treatment as it dried out after taking it swimming in the recent floods

I would be kicking up a right stink if a garage took over a week to do what you're having done, all of that work can be done in a day. Or do they not have any of the parts in stock?
The shirt is almost as old as the bike. :lolStill worth more :lol
ive been tempted to paint mine but as its carbon (my first ever piece of carbon or carbon effect) im not sure or not
- prob should take it off have a look and see if i can clearcoat it for a better shine
The wooden "workshop" ;) (shed) Has power! All ready for full strip, clean, paint etc and rebuild of the fazer next winter :) never had anywhere under cover to work on my bikes, but now me and my fazer will be warm and dry in the winter! goodbye oxford bike cover
Yesterday my engine crash bars arrived, so I worked through my lunch and finished work early so I had plenty of time to get them fitted before going out. No fitting instructions so it was all guess work but I think I did alright however I did have to use some different longer bolts in a couple of areas.

Great looking shed Matt.
If the floor in your new shed is tongue and groove boards timber (T&G) place a piece of 3/4 inch ply under where the life will live, the casters on the lift may disappear through the 8mm thick T&G boards and end up with your bike laying on its side after falling 2 or 3 foot from the lift.
Fitted heated grips.
is the 400 seriously much better then the 600 - ive gone vertical dominators now but good info to know
when i took my fairing off and pulled apart the headlights i was shocked that it was a h1/h4 setup and instantly took a dislike to it
Japan drives on the left the same as we do so there wouldn't be a different part number for the 400 headlight as it was only ever made for their home market.
Fitted the rear blue spot caliper and new Pilot Road 3 tires both front and back.
What a difference!

At least your workmates will know when to put the kettle on when you're leaving home to go to work :lol
Changed the brake pads front.
I could probably have driven 10.000km more on the old ones. But they just didn't feel right.
New ones feel so much better and has better stopping power.
Now... should probably replace the brake lines as well..

That's the way to do it, best pads on the market :)
The pistons in my front calipers were pitted (to say the least!), so I have made a set from nickel aluminium bronze, new seals fitted etc, and have got some new Hel brake lines to go on too - Looking forward to a better front brake.Holy balls, are those damage from taking them out?
Thank you. I would normally have just bought new ones but £200+ was just too much, I have already spent more on this bike than it cost me to buy and I had the bronze bar so it seemed the best solution.I can see some requests coming your way ;) :lol Top job fella!
Stripped the front end down in order to try and cleanup the headlights as they were covered in dusty crap on the inside. I wish I hadn't bothered now as the brackets that hold the unit were broken so I'm having a nightmare sticking them back together plus the front cover of the unit was completely glued in all around so it took me hours cutting through so I could just lift the front off. Because it was getting on my tits so much I've just left it in pieces for the moment until I can get back to it, problem is that it now means it's off the road again, but my buddy across the road has kindly let me borrow his MT-09 for the week so that has cheered me right up :lol

Not something i would wanna try, but people on here have put the light unit in the oven before to soften up the glue you're on about, then separate it with a screwdriver.

No, not damage from taking them out, they have rotted away around the edges. And yes - new pistons made by my own fair hand.

Thanks buddy I really hope it all goes well too. They are picking my bike up Friday for assessment and also dropping off a curtesy bike but I don't know what I'm getting, not that I can ride at the moment any way but I might be fine by Monday. I will be highly shocked if they don't deem it as a write off as the whole front end needs replacing as well as the tank and a load of other bits.

The bike is at least 15 years old, I know that the age of a looked after and loved bike does not detract from the the value that the owner places on his beloved machine, but alas the insurance companies will see it as a 15 year old bike and most likely deem it as a uneconomically viable repair and stroke it away with a dash I'd a pen. Might be worth buying it back from the insurance Co and seeing it as a project or dismantling it as spares, especially if you look for another Boxeye.
It will all depend on the buy back cost and what payout I'm offered etc, but either way I will be looking at getting a replacement bike.

Would you go for a replacement fazer or a fazer replacement? I.e. what bike or bikes would you consider buying fella?
I have always said that my next bike would be a street triple but I if left this forum I don't know where else I would go to get the piss taken out of me.

I was thinking of a FZS1000 as I had been toying with the idea of a bigger cc bike for a while but I was hoping to keep my 600 as well for winter riding or for fun at weekends. I was also looking at an MT-10 but I think that's going to be well out of my price range at the moment there are a few others that have cought my eye but the one that seems to be screaming out is the Fazer thou.

Good choice. PR3s are excellent on the 600The PR3s on my Fazer are the best tyres I have used for all round performance wet or dry. (Got PR4s on the Tracer- factory fitted)

just finished a 820 mile round trip to the Nurburgring, did 5 laps of the the 'Green Hell' which was an awesome but scary experience. The old Fazer never missed a beat even after maxing it out on the autobahn with an indicated 145 chasing my brother on Aprilia Mille.
Wrote 'er off. Or at least allowed some other idiot to.. :'(:eek :eek :eek
Riding to work (Halifax) on A629 (new Road) just out of Denholme by the b6141 (long causeway) - for those that might know the area - I'm coming thru' the bend to be met with a largish flatbed truck out of control with its back end rapidly catching up and passing its front end. On my side of the road. It sideswiped me, pushed me down and under the back end and spat me out at the other end. I crawled away to be quickly met by various concerned souls who were a bit shocked to find me pissing myself laughing at my lucky escape (in't Adrenalin brilliaaaant!!!). Turns out there was a big diesel spill up ahead (which he had come through) - I reckon he'd braked as he met the back of the queue going into Denholme, unfortunately for all - mainly me - this was amidst said diesel spill so he lost it big time. Fortunately yrs truly was only doing 20 as I'd just exited some roadworks with no tarmac. Nevertheless very very scary to see a truck spiralling at you!!! :eek
So - long morning spent in A&E getting seen, fortunately no injures beyond extensive bruising and sprained foot. So far anyway. Astonishingly no damage to my kit though the helmet almost certainly took a knock. The bike however is goosed from nose to tail, deffo a write off. (No photos - you'll only get upset.)
Then off home for tea biscuits and a stern lecture from Mrs Wharfe along the lines of "isn't it time you gave up biking for the sake of your family etc etc" Er, no dear, it's time I bought another low mileage foxeye Fazer to ride to work on and maintain my sanity with, actually....
Anyway looks like I'll be doing Foc all for a few days (as I can't weight bear) so watch this space!

Fitted my new engine bars :)
Fitted my new engine bars :)
Thanks for the comments guys, absolutely right about the fitting F4aceless and I think they do look kinda cool. The only problem with fitting was on the left side bottom rail clamp which is only 25mm diameter, the right side is 30mm with a rubber lining which won't fit on the left side due to the closeness of the frame to the sump, because the 25mm clamp doesn't have a rubber lining, it's metal to metal contact on the frame which I wasn't happy with. However, I bought a piece of 1.5mm thick black rubber a couple of years ago to make some fairing washers for my VFR750, so I cut a strip to go inside the clamp but then needed a longer bolt cos I couldn't get the nut on the one they supplied :lol Still all good now, and at £83 well worth the money I reckon. It's good to hear that the engine bars do the job Fazer99 even though your baby was written off :(
fitted renthal 789's
removed reflector and lifted numberplate (cut a wedge out of plate to lift even higher)
new clutch cable
noticed clutch lever pivot was oval so new lever ordered
- 200 miles later suddenly got a blowing exhaust gasket so had to order them now
I went up from 25 to 30mm bolts on mine. Did you put anything between the left side clamp and the frame tube? Thanks for the comments guys, absolutely right about the fitting F4aceless and I think they do look kinda cool. I found the biggest problem fitting them was the lack of length of the bolts for the clamps around the frame but luckly I had some longer bolts to rectify that problem.
30 inch on bars 32 at the levers (sounds odd but looks fine)
link to my youtube channel has a video about fitting them and chopping off the lugs
will be posting most of my modifications and build series on there
personally i think they are a bit wide for city riding but they are comfortable once your used to them
(editing a review video that i made after 50 miles - after 200+ miles was completly used to it)
Rode her to work. Hacked through 15 miles of London traffic... slipped through the narrowest of filter gaps... spanked the wide boy in the car who didnt want to let me pass... cruised by the coppers without waking them from their slumber. She's 20 yrs old, 10 yrs with me. Best bike I've ever owned.
If it's a genuine Yamaha one i bet that did not come cheapIts an exact match but not genuine and cost £350 incl delivery. Its rubber but feels harder than I was expecting, or the OEM is no knackered.
foc me, £350? You could have got a genuine one for half that. :lolneeds one of these . between 3 and 5
I went to pick up the centre stand from the finishers. Found it on eBay last week.Structurally sound, so I had it powder coated.Bought it to replace the old one which was corroded and cracked.
It only cost £20 for powder coating so wasn't worth the pissing about, especially with the state of my hands.Thats a good price where was that. I did mine by hand last year over a couple of days and despite my best efforts its got some rust coming through - next time I will get powder coat I think.
She does agree that the pipes look very pretty now, although she's put it down to witchcraft rather than chemistry.... :lolwitchcraft =Double, double toil and trouble;Fire burn and downpipes bubble.chemistry =Double, double toil and trouble;Fire burn and caldron bubble.pretty sure its the same thing and eye of newt is great for rust removal
Balanced the carbs, filled the bars with silicone to reduce vibrations and swapped over two of the coil wires which I had the wrong way around after having the engine out a couple years ago, not sure it makes any difference that I could feel or hear. Carbs weren't far out but now they're really well balanced!
Took her out for a little test ride after the balancing only to break half a mile down the road, can anyone guess why?
Congratulations to those who guessed right! Forgot to turn the fuel tap back on :lol
Unfortunately I had left my extra mini tool kit with the correct hex key for the fuel tank at home but thankfully after stripping off all my motorcycle gear and a little panic as I couldn't believe I'd be so daft to leave the tap off I eventually managed to undo the bolt with the OEM tool kit's pliers.
After turning the tap back on I carried on my way to Chepstow to do the wye valley road (lovely road!) but the M48 bridge was closed so came home again :'(
Changed the H4 and position lights from Halogen to LED (Well, half of it so far). just remember they are now mot failures as you can only use halogen bulbs in the original reflectors

Why don't you put photos up, number plate, etc, on here so people can keep an eye out?

its all over facebook and been shared around all the local bike groups, its the same group who are nicking them in this area they tend to stay nearby
was out with my alarm keyfob walking around the dodgy areas just listening for the alarm to beep lol
i dont use facebook myself but we know around here it is the same scumbags that steal the bikes and they never leave the county - this has been shared with every club in the area including the ones i can not name (this is Lancashire so you know who + plus the ones who also ride here)

Not everyone uses Facebook, and.....we are a UK/Worldwide bike group who specialize in Fazers, meaning we would spot one quicker than others.
This should be the first place you put photos up!

First post , so see how it goes. Went for short spin after MotoGP to get some new chain lube and decided to get Chain Wax. Never tried this before. Anyone know how good or bad it is.I use it. Have a search on here for chain lube, wax and you will find loads of past posts discussing all manner lubes for the chain. I use Puoline Chain Tech. Heres a good one for you http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,20030.50.html (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,20030.50.html)

Took mine out for 1st time, returned home and straightened the warped rear disc.
This. Found the high spot and gave it a tweak.
Don't worry all he wanted to do was show off his 15 inch Bacho adjustableThis. Found the high spot and gave it a tweak.
Little word of advice........don't do that.
One, it's just wrong, two, i've never heard of a warped rear disc, EVER, and three, don't do that ever again.....please.
You aren't 'fixing' anything by bending a disc. If it needs changing, then simply change it.
I doubt very very much that it's warped anyway, just give your caliper a good clean up and use Red Rubber grease on the outer pistons, do it once or twice a year and it will not misbehave.

Like these, also a great seized brake piston and oil filter removal tool.
:lol Celticdog, they were seized solid 1/4 way out, the caliper was in the vice getting plenty of heat and the pistons were heading for the scrap heap anyway, so no harm done.I I will look into the knipex ones they look like they have plenty of setting positions which is another bug-bear I have with my crappy cheap ones.
My stilettos are out of shot, that's just one of those shoes you find on the road, I keep it in my pocket for emergencies, in this case it was used as a prop to give a sense of proportiontion to my exhibits.:thumbup :lol
Nice one👍
New PR3 on the front.They are very hairy aren't they. Week end = scrubbing in = :) :) :)
£84 from Oponeo and £20 to fit.

Cleaned the sludge out from under the chain guard to stop it dripping back down and around the wheel, oiled the chain, then finally got round to making a proper top layer of foam for my seat:
Up next, a cover, to replace the bin bags I've been sitting on since February or so!

Debating leaving it since its <0.01mm too tight, but out of spec is out of spec...
Delayed from Sunday ...
Today I installed heated grips. I'd held out with nice squishy grips, but the cold weather forced my hands. So far it has been amazing. The ride tomorrow will be interesting, with 0/below 0 temperatures!

Just a shame i can't get hand guards as well on my bike, the combination would be perfect.
Basically all new model bikes made after 07 should be exempt this won't include older designed bikes sold in 07
Changed the original headers for New delkivic ones today. Quite an easy job to do. O was suprised at the bore difference compared to the original.Easy as long as you don't snap a stud!

I think the diameter of the studs is too small. If they had used M8 studs instead of M6 they would have been a lot stronger. Also using the open ended nuts was a bad idea because all the muck from road clogs up the threads. I think it's nearly always the center two studs behind the wheel that snap. Even if you crack the nut free and get a few turns out of it they can still shear because they bind up from dirt and rust on threads because the nut is open. Also whatever steel they made the studs and the whole exhaust from wasn't good enough. It rusts out too easily. I know the Fazer was a budget commuter when it was sold but Yamaha really cheaped out on the exhaust system

Smoked indicator lenses?
You have the majority of vehicles "out to get you" and you are lessening the chance of them seeing you make a turn, and if something unfortunate was to happen then believe me the first thing they will shout will either be "He didn't indicate" or "I couldn't see the indicators properly".
Are they even legal, and will they get through an M.O.T., it's not something that has ever even crossed my mind before to fit?
I was going to mention the smoked lenses but did not want to be the first one to say something as im sure he is a big boy and he can do what he likes. (I don't mean that in a sarcastic way).I would never fit them, as darrsi says in an off you stand no chance of winning an insurance case. Now I do like the sound of clear lenses and orange led bulbs especially on my bike as it is black and chrome/polished alloy, same for the rear lens- red LED. But too tight and not that bothered to spend the money doing it. :lol
In the interest of science I've just taken some pics of the comparison between original lenses and smoked ones.Orange look easier to see - there might be a brighter centre on the smoked but the whole of the orange is "glowing" more. As your bike is silver IMO it would of looked better with clear lenses with orange bulbs.
The smoked ones have orange bulbs and in my opinion make the bike look a little nicer.
Can I get any credit for not bastardising her too much by fitting LED indicators?
Orange on the left, smoked on the right.

Just had a week off work and using up my holiday, and it was a nice day yesterday, so i sat outside in the sun for a few hours cleaning up all my brake calipers and regreasing the pots after the winter period. I try and do all the calipers before and after winter to keep them in good order.Let us know how you get on with the gear oil ;) I think it's great stuff but it depends on the type of riding you do. If you do mostly low speed urban riding, you can apply the gear oil once a week and you're sorted. If you do high speed motorway riding or big distances in one go the gear oil isn't practical because you would need to be applying it after ever trip.
Then i cleaned off the normal engine oil i've been using on the chain, and relubed it with 90w gear oil instead. Cleaned all the shite off the rear sprocket as well, which is normally pretty dirty from everyday use.
After that i gave the whole bike a quick wash and it now looks all respectable again, until it rains again anyway.
Was just having a good look around the internet as i used up my last brake cleaner spray, and i'm getting low on red rubber grease.
Really odd that they charge about £5.40 for 70g of RRG, but i just paid £9.39 for 500g, which will probably outlast the bike and me, but made total sense to buy that instead.
Found a good deal on Brake Cleaner Spray though:

Like I do, stick the oil in a Scottolier :DGood idea ;) Any mess from it with the gear oil? They're blood expensive aren't they? If I could find a cheap used one I'd give it a go
The genuine Scottoiler oil seemed to make far more of a mess as it was much stickier and would plaster itself all over the place and then trap all the dirt & dust.
The gear oil, being a bit less viscous and definitely not as sticky tends to fling of without adhering to things to much.
It also cleans off a lot easier as well.
Mine's got the dual chain feeder on the end of the pipe which does both sides equally, all the time.
It does make a difference but you also use more oil, although that's not a bad thing I guess.
Is it easily done with engine in the frame still or best to drop it out first?Leave it in. If you wanted to do a proper job you could take it out and spray it but it's a lot of work.
Got a pair of Michelin Road 5 and an MOT put on her. This is the first bike I've kept long enough to have new tyres put on, felt quite twitchy on the way home to the point where I was shitting it a little. Thinking it may be a combination of a new tyre profile vs worn and needing scrubbing in; I've never scrubbed in new tyres on a bike before, read a few differing things about scrubbing in new tyres, some say it's temperature related and a motorway run will sort, others are more like gradually increasing lean angles and so on which might be a bit difficult without pre planning a route and timing. Any opinions would be appreciated.
Replaced OEM exhaust can with new one from SP Engineering - Carbon Round 300mm.
Listen here for direct sound comparison between them , OEM first, baffles in on both: https://youtu.be/xFrKF-Xg7Vw (https://youtu.be/xFrKF-Xg7Vw)
MOT this morning, i can think of no reason at all why it shouldn't pass, and it's the one time a year i treat myself to a full on breakfast in the nearby cafe. :bThinking of the tester dancing across the garage when he tests your horn :lol
Hi all! Today my FZS from 2003, that I bought a year ago, finally passed 10 000 km (6200 miles) after 16 years! So I got almost a new bike for £1800. Quite a bargain.. :lol . Has anyone here less miles than mine?
It's not really ideal for a bike to hardly be used at all for so many years, but so far everything seems to work as it should. A bit weird however is that I cannot use the choke at all. It becomes completely impossibe to start it even if I just touch the lever the slightest. On the other hand it always starts easily even down to below freezing point, with some help from the throttle. Anyone else having the same experience?
So not a lot of maintenance up till now. Replaced the coolant that smelled worse than a rotten egg, installed handle bar raiser 30 mm and H&B C-bow side luggage carrier for my Vanucci panniers. And most important, replaced the original tyres (!) with new Michelin Road 5 that made the world of a difference.
Drive safely!

Out of curiosity, what made you buy them when the PR3, PR4 & PR5 tyres have been so highly recommended on here for ages?

In a nutshell there was a lot of praise for how long lasting and good in the wet they were - I have no need for either of those attributes
The M7RR are a sports tyre as opposed to the PR3/4/5 being a touring tyre. They enhance the handling and steering, especially on the 1000. One characteristic I like is that they are less inclined to stand the bike up when cornering if you have to brake mid corner. They last almost as long as the PR.Metzler Sportec M7 RR come very close. These do seem to be a little not the norm but I am glad to see that I am not the only person riding them

Don't get me wrong but the PR is a very good tyre and are presently on the 600 because I had swapped wheels with my son a few years ago when he cut a tyre on a broken bottle on a Saturday evening and he was getting boat on Sunday morning and he put a PR3/4 mix on before he gave back the wheels. (My discs were needing replacing and his are fine, (40000 miles compared to 90000) My carbs are still on his bike as he was have an hesitancy at 7000 when you open the throttle which we finally traced to a faulty Regulator/rectifier.
Once they are worn I will be going back to M7RR.
:) Sensitive neighbours!
Yep coming up for mot soon so will get carbs done then, newish filter in but next time for k & n
