Looking at the 'What are you reading' thread got me thinking. People were reading various books including a fair number that were bike related.
We all are bike fanatics, otherwise we wouldn't be here, but what other things are we particularly enthusiastic about. Not just hobbies, but things we do to the same level of expertise that we have for bikes? You never know, you might be able to help out another foccer with advice :)
Here's mine :
Theatre. Not just watching, but I've produced and directed at professional and amateur level, including a couple of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe
Gardening. Particularly vegetables. My garlic and chillies are top notch
I'm also learning to cook. Proper cooking near to good restaurant level from scratch . But that's work in progress.
So what's yours?

I surf, ski, play board games and make "interesting" items in leather ;)

As well as the bike I'm a very keen clay shooter, not competition just at club level

Always fancied having a go. Only shooting I've done is as an army cadet at school. Ex WW2 . 303 Lee Enfields, if I remember

What sort of interesting items?
Got any examples?

I would say it has to be all things DIY. Second would be gardening but no good at it apart from making it look nice but I have a few very good topiary items that I have grown from scratch.

I am not allowed to do plumbing, after the last time. I saved myself minus £300 :'(
-
I'm a keen wreck diver, accelerated decompression and Trimix, although I've not done any for a while now. Work and now all this Covid has prevented me from diving and the cost of Trimix is extortionate these days :'(
Into running, cycling and walking, all manner of DIY and like my cooking too.

There is (surprisingly), some surfing at The Witterings which is east of Portsmouth (past Hayling Island), but you have to be lucky to get any real waves.
I usually go to Croyde Bay in north Devon, although someone's opened a Wave Pool in Bristol which I went to last November, not long after it started and which was good.
I had been planning to get up there regularly this year because it's only a 2 hour ride, rather than 4+ to Croyde, but, of course, they've had to close for the Lockdown which is a shame given the fabulous weather :(

That's something I've thought about having a shot (sorry!) at :)
When I was at school we had the Combined Cadet Force and I was in the RAF section (I only joined that because it meant my parents would let me leave the Scouts!) and we had a range with .22 rifles. I also got to try a Lee Enfield .303 once and, one time, we went to an RAF range and had a go with their 7.62mm SLRs
There's a clay shooting range in Devon, not far from where I go surfing, so maybe someday I'll get down there and give it a go (Hey, I've got my own earplugs!)
:thumbup

I used to be a member and a safety officer/coach, stopped doing it sometime ago now.

Starting doing some clay pigeon shooting two years ago, been about a dozen times, quite like it but my aim could be better :o . I only got into it because a mate got a job at a gunsmith.

There's a couple within 10 miles of me. So that's what the bloody noise is :lol
I might well give it a try. I'm not a bad darts player :)

My other big loves are riding my mountain bike (between 3,500 and 5,000 mile per year for the last 10 years - a lot more miles than I put on all of our motorbikes together :'( , but not competitively, or as part of a club), building stuff with wood and recycling/upcycling old stuff (chairs, sheds, stores, planters, fences etc) and flying a helicopter (as a private, not commercial, pilot).
None of them gives the same buzz as being on the bike on a lovely twisty mountain road, or a nice long flowing race track, but flying a helicopter close to the ground practicing sharp stops/tight turns is close. :)

Fascinating to know what others do.
I play squash, have done since I was a child. No great shakes but still compete at club level after all these years - starting to be the oldest player of both teams at fixtures these days. It's a seriously intense game that keeps me fit and trim, I miss it loads due to current restrictions. Seeing as I fit bathrooms and kitchens for a living and ride motorcycles all year round to squash training, games and matches I think I can confidently look forward to more knee problems, having already suffered quite a bit already....
I also enjoy collecting and mixing vinyl records, mainly jungle and DnB (hence the avatar) not a cheap hobby by any stretch. I have 'played out' before, great fun and went down well but the work and preparation required was eye opening, not something I am keen to repeat. A couple of people that know me and know that I mix have asked me to play at weddings.... when I demonstrate the music that I play they promptly think again.
