Seen a few posts about installing a new torque arm and mine was looking tatty (it is 18yrs old after all !!) so had a look on ebay and spotted one listed for an FZX 750 which looked about right so for the princely sum of £5.50 and £3.20 postage I took a punt .... Fitted straight on. Well pleased to say the least
I put Osram Nightbreakers in my '03 foxeye and they are a great improvement over standard. I also fitted some L.E.D.'s to the side of the rad to get me more noticed. They are wired through a relay that switches with the sidelights.
I put a set of Black Widow headers on my last Fazer. Well made and fitted easily. Everything lined up sweet as. Nothing else needed to be done. I also put a Leo Vince can on the end. Luckily the nuts came off the studs without any dramas and no studs were damaged in the process. When the headers go on this Fazer I will replace with another set of Black Widow as I was impressed with the build quality and finish of the last set.
Agreed, won't fit. You need an FZS1000 or certain XJR1300 blue-spot / silver-spot rear calipers to get the larger 41mm pistons and therefore better braking performance. Pity as there's quite a few early R1 blue-spot rears on ebay, someone could easily fabricate an adapter...
Piston on the original FZS600 caliper and the FZS1000 are the same size which is why the master cylinders are the same on both bikes. The only problem with the original FZS600 caliper was poor drainage due to small drain holes which were easily blocked by road crud. This allowed water(especially salt laden water) to collect within the caliper around the pads and corrode everything within. FZS1000 caliper had open bottom end as the pads are fitted from the bottom, hence less issue with holding water.

Does anybody have a definitive answer as to whether a rear brake caliper off a 2001 R1 is the same as the rear brake caliper off a FZS1000. I looked on a parts site and the R1 part number is 5JJ 2580W 00 00, and the FZS1000 part number is 5LV 2580 00. I am wondering if the first number/letter configuration just relates to the actual bike and the longer number is the actual part reference.
