For Sale & Wanted / Re: Fazer 1000 Gen 1 for sale 3000 miles Immaculate

Greetings All,

First of all this bike is nothing at all to do with me. Whilst the dealer may be geographically near me in Reading, I have no idea where (at the moment).  :D

I just thought that all you fellow Gen1 owners / enthusiasts might enjoy having a look at it. Surely this must be the best low mileage Gen1 available anywhere?

Please let us all know if one of you buys it. Enjoy!  :)

Nearly £5000! Seems over the top to me. Nice bike though, I'm sure there's others out there just as good for a couple of grand cheaper.

Doesn't take long to check and lube stuff, if nothing needs doing a couple of hours tops for a good mechanic.
I would imagine it would take more than a couple of hours to strip the front end out to lube the head bearings properly, and likewise with the rear end to lube the swing arm bearings properly, in addition to all the other checks that are "scheduled" to be done.

If you wire them to a switched source, they should only work when the ignition is switched on and no dickheads can come and switch them on unknowingly......

I doubt very much that they would lube the head & swingarm bearings, just check for play. As for the coolant being changed you would have to look closely to see if there are any obvious signs, i.e. Radiator drain or hoses recently taken off or undone and coolant looking nice and fresh. I would guess at a check over,  maybe an oil & filter change and possibly a set of plugs. But I might be wrong......... :rolleyes

I didn't realise they did a national mileage register. You learn something everyday.

It's good to know these engines are good for high mileages, I read somewhere that one had covered over 200,000 miles by a lady in America and she threw a party to celebrate!!

Good link, that looks fairly straightforward, I think I'll also give that mod a go, otherwise it's the extenders option.....

I shall be getting one of those brake piston pliers for sure. I spent ages taking great care, and struggled a bit to get the pistons out of my old bikes calipers a few years ago, without damaging or scoring them. That tool would have made the whole job a piece of piss!

« on: 09 October 2016, 07:42:01 pm »
Oxford Heated grips every time, I've put them on every bike I've owned over the years, easy to fit, reliable and get hot enough to keep your hands nice and warm. My only gripe is with any heated grips is the tips of my thumbs get cold as they face the cold air directly.
Best grips in my opinion is the Oxford Premium Touring ones, you can get them on eBay for around £45, but the price creeps up as winter closes in....
Can't comment on the heated mits, not tried them.

I had a similar problem with mine, I ended up buying a complete new 'plug & play' meta 357T-V2with new fobs, delivered for about £160, took about 10 minutes to fit.

« on: 28 September 2016, 10:11:13 pm »
They look really good, I think I'll take the plunge and go for it. I have the standard bars and bar ends (I tried the ultra low Renthal bars but couldn't get on with them) so will they fit to the standard OE bars/bar ends or do I need to modify or replace the the bar ends?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Bar end mirrors?
« on: 28 September 2016, 01:19:54 pm »
Do many of you have or ever had bar end mirrors on the Gen 1? Are they any good? Can you see more than the standard ones which seem to show about 30-40% of elbow?
Just wondering if there's any advantage to having them over standard as some of them actually look quite smart.
Cheers

If I remember correctly, I fitted a Puig screen on mine, it wasn't rounded, more pointed to match the front of the bike.

I had a gen 2 a few years back and that was my main gripe with the bike, awful snatchy throttle response. I went on various forums and an Ivan's fuel cut eliminator was recommended. I installed it and it improved slightly but I was never 100% happy with the throttle response.

72
What's RR mod? Is that similar to Ivanising?

So i suspect i will be doing the following

New Front/Rear sprocket/chain
New Rear Bearings

The chain and sprockets i can change myself i have done that before

have never messed with drifting bearings out and seating new ones, is this best left to the local mechanics?

don't want to nacker the wheel

If you're replacing the wheel bearings while its all out, take your time drifting the old bearings out, try and drift it out evenly all the way round. Once the first one is out its much easier to access the next one. When you put the new ones in, I always use the old bearing on top of the new one to tap it virtually all the way home, just make sure you don't tap the new one in too far so you can't get it back out! Good luck.
