I've fitted a 'modern' Chinese style one. I mainly wanted it to stop me going for 7th gear. It works really well and the only downside I would say is it doesn't display the gear when stationary. For 30 quid I can't complain and fitting is straightforward.
Hi Middy Where did u get the thing...? it's something I want to have but the ones I read about sounded too complicated to fit... your one sounds simple enough to fit. I'm constantly forgetting which gear I'm in.... Not so much the 1st or 2nd problem...my bike gives a distinctive crunch going into 2nd!

Hi Foccers can anyone tell me if I can get smarter looking (and lighter) rear brake and gear levers...? My original ones are pretty scruffy and seem unnescessarily heavy compared with the alloy ones on modern bikes.

Hi Foccers Will a Foxeye front fairing fit straight on to a Boxeye bike.... ??? I want to replace my wrecked fairing...last weeks storm blew it over (again) so it's really in bits now. I will have to replace the lights as well....how difficult...? New replacement boxeye fairing on Ebay for €100 is pretty good...have to spray it but still...

yes i was riding that tyre, I'm changing it because it was losing air. Also yes the disc is worn, but working fine so no prob... \my theory is that the pad adopts the grooves and undulations of the disc, increasing the surface area and stopping power still waiting for new tyre (and set of tyre levers) to arrive...Ebay very slow with all the extra demand....

yes this heating of the nuts theory.... ....Would probably help under ideal conditions on the bench, but u have to use real red hot heat from a cutting torch, not just mild warmth from a puny Lpg blowtorch. impossible i would say with the head still on the bike, or even off it, without melting everything around the stud. The solution is to go back to the happy day when u drove ur new Fazr home, not exceeding 2,500 revs...and instead of carefully cleaning off any road dust or raindrops painstakingly take out all the exhaust studs and replace with stainless steel bolts exactly the right length, using copper grease.

Hi Foccers 6mm mild steel exhaust studs are manufactured by Satan in Hell, to punish foccers for howling their engines. I opted for the full purgatory, and removed the engine. Even then I didn't get one of them out without damaging a thread, (number three, of course). Fortunately God has invented Helicoils so I didn't have to go up to M8. PS I think welding a nut onto the end of a broken off stud would actually be impossible...and pointless, since it would just snap off.

ARF...! Hi Foccers, I suppose u r all at home thinking "I WISH I COULD CHANGE MY TYRES", but can't figure out how to get the old one off..?? Well after much trying with levers etc. I hit on the easy way out...! see pics. Now I just have to actually get it off the rim...should be a doddle, right...?!

Thank u guys I think I can handle changing the steering head bearings.. can u use the steering stem and yokes, with the old bearing still on, as a puller to get the new lower race into position..? as for the forks, I think I'll just leave them...at wot point do you stop spending money on an old bike and just trade it in..??!!

Hi Foccers. My steering head bearings are pretty worn..was thinking of replacing them, (presumably the original ball bearing type) with a new set of roller bearings. How difficult is this, without special tools...? I'm especially thinking of getting the lower bearing race correctly seated in the frame..? Have seen a few instructional vids and this seems to be the hard bit. and while I'm at it, my forks are horribly rusty just below the fairing...cosmetic really but how difficult is it to replace the inner part of the fork...and wot bits should be replaced when one is doing it..? UPDATE... Jaysus!..was just checking the price of new forks..WAAAY too much. Wot about getting forks rechromed, is that an option...?

ERF yes the forks are a bit rusty, all weather bike kept out in the rain. They just look black because of the light...I wrapped some aluminium tape around the worst bit... I need to get my forks rechromed...but then I need lots of other stuff as well...like a spotless carbed 1000....???!!

Hi Foccers I fitted TWO sets of cheap Chinese spotlights to my FZS600... a silver set on the rad ends are in the dipped position...a big help. The black ones on the fairing are connected to the main beam...AMAZING...!

Hi MC900 I recently had the same issue with my standard FZS600 rear brake....turned out to be the brake lever was sticking slightly on the pivot due to grime collecting... a drop of WD40 fixed the problem instantly...!

COOL...! that looks great...but are the 1000 lights significantly better than the FZS600.....? I had to fit cheap Chinese spotlights to mine....but still not great.

Yes...it comes out on the STARBOARD side, u need to remove the rad. A trolley jack under the engine is a big help. If u place a box or some sort of platform beside the bike, at the same height as the engine this helps when sliding it out. It's not easy, my bike finally fell over and the engine sort of fell out . Getting it back in was easier.

Hi Browne1664 I don't know who makes downpipes for FZS600...but I got a good stainless steel set on Ebay for €100 Needless to say i broke a couple of studs taking the old pipes off.. .an engine-out job....! a good opportunity to give the thing a DEEP CLEAN

Hi Foccers Do all FI bikes have diagnostic ports for access to the computer controlled fuel system...? if so can't the average semi-computer literate foccer just get the relevant software onto his laptop and do the tuning or adjustments him (or HER)self...? or get yer grandson (or daughter) to turn yer bike into a MONSTER...?

Pinched from another couple of forums, just to get a bit of banter about you're favourite music going, see who likes what. Currently got on "Sister Morphine" by the Stones - used to do this in a little acoustic trio, mostly for a bike club we all used to be in, friends of, and parties , then for SE MAG (we played the acoustic marquee at the last Magna Carta rally that was held at Upminster), so this tune brings back some memories (not that many cos we were all stoned most of the time ). Also, when I was in hospital after my big smash, my mate brought me in a tape (tape?! ) that had this on, Comfortably Numb by Floyd etc - when I was high as a kite from the Omnipon ).
AH...Omnipon was the best synthetic....Am gorging on Frank Zappa live performances on Tube...and blissing out on choral renditions of Hildegard of Bingen tunes from the 12th century

UPDATE...... TPS problem turned out to be a false alarm. Power and acceleration are what motorcycling is all about...I vote carbs....!
