Had the bike out this eve (sunny blip) obviously expecting improvement but WOW, grin factor 10 all the way, what a massive difference,   Defo having to upgrade the suspension now, (when funds permit)

Thanks for all Mike

Hi guys, last as usual (for me) to reply. I also would like to convey my gratitude to Mike for his great work, although the roads were wet I felt a great improvement on my test run. It pissed down all the way home (Just as Chris predicted) so I also will look forward  to testing the bike out properly in some dry weather.
Also thanks to Joe and your lovely family for putting up with us.

It was Really nice to meet you all.

Many thanks Mike

Yes I am aware of the specs but they are all on the lower side anyway. cyl1 .20 .22 / cyl2 .22 .22/ cyl3 .19 .19/ cyl4 .20.20 on exhaust valves.

Hi thanks teecee I managed to get hold of a set that did the job, I have 5 on the exhaust valves that need adjusted.I am quite surprised as i thought this was the first check at 28k as i purchased the bike at supposedly 12000k 4 years ago, backed up by Mots and the bike was in very clean cond. When inspecting the valve cover there was grey gasket sealant in places between the valve cover and the rubber( (very amateurish looking application) which has raised my suspicions about this bike which is a shame because I thought i had a good un and have enjoyed every moment in the saddle on this machine and have had many comments on how nice the bike looked. ... Can you tell i'm a tad disappointed :o

Hi Foc people, Please forgive my ignorance but would grey gasket sealant on the valve cover rubber gasket indicate that it has been off before.
Also where can I obtain feeler gauges that measure 0.11 (intake) and 0.21 (Exhaust) both the minimum gap but mine are extremely close on cyl 1 (only one checked so far) and my gauges are in increments of 0.05mm.
Thanks

Hi Timbo, the drain hole is on the left side of the engine and runs through each plug port. Its brill what you can learn on the foc u, Great bunch,..........  well most of em :evil :)

The standard plugs I removed 7000 mls ago to replace with iridium were pretty good nic so I can only presume they were part of a bad batch like many mass produced stuff manufactured these days. I would like to reiterate that the drain holes were spotless as with the plug ports and my bike is serviced and cleaned to a high standard. Cheeri

Hi Tommyardin the crush washers are there, i double checked, just cant see them for crud. I have always serviced/ replaced plugs no matter which vehicle by the manual but it seems I expected too much from iridium plugs. Cheers

So I let the plug service run on for 800 miles what a sin. :eek  the bike is serviced by the book at or around the end of summer. Never used in winter or on the beach.

Hi Tommyardin, its a K&N air filter fitted same time as iridium plugs, it was totally clean but soaking (i mean dripping with fuel) when i checked it a few weeks ago and from what ive gathered so far is I think I have a carb issue. cheers

Hi PieEater now I Know why folks call em Halfrauds cos thats where I bought the plugs. Cheers

Hi folks, what do you make of this. ok they were fitted 2 years ago, 7k miles. I know i replaced the plug caps correctly. my Question is whats the point in fitting iridium (supposedly longer life) when the rest of the plug is made from recycled baked bean cans >: :\

Hi folks, gonna have a go at the valve clearances, bikes at 28odd K. I know i dont need to remove the carbs (thanks to PieEater) But just wanted to ask if i still have to remove the fairing and thermostat housing (as per Haynes manual) to get the valve cover off? AIS has been removed.
Also, my feeler gauges are not tapered, will this matter?
Thanks in advance guys.
